UPDATED BY GPSPASSION 20100506 : I went to the nuvi 37xx launch in Paris today, and although I must admit I had my doubts when it was announced in April, after using it for a few minutes, it's safe to say this new nuvi is all that is cracked up to be and more! Faster, brighter, lighter for a start. More details on page 5 with a video to show the vastly improved speed.

I think that this units will rock

If they draw the map quick witch is essential for the capacitive display with multitouch and pinch-zoom, and is the mao detail is like the 7x0/8xx series they will be the best

Also with a second speaker in the car mount they say that this is the best sound of all the nuvi line-up

I really hope this will be a great unit because I don't want to give up on garmin

Thank you for the post, Here is another article with a few more details:

Garmin(R) nuvi(R) 3700 Series Redefines Look and Feel of Personal Navigation

OLATHE, Kan., Apr 19, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. /quotes/comstock/15*!grmn/quotes/nls/grmn (GRMN 36.12, -1.07, -2.88%) , the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the nuvi 3700 series, setting new standards for design, features and ease of use in personal navigation devices. Boasting a new ultra-thin, pocket-friendly design and large-screen, high-resolution glass display with capacitive touch panel, the nuvi 3700 series won the coveted Red Dot Design Award in the world's largest and most renowned design competition.

"Personal navigation is entering a new era, and the nuvi 3700 series has the stunning design and seamlessly intuitive interface to lead the way," said Dan Bartel, Garmin's vice president of worldwide sales. "Our designers and engineers were challenged to rethink an industry icon, and the result is as pristine as it is practical."

Internationally acclaimed design

At less than 9mm of overall thickness, the nuvi 3700 series is easily the thinnest portable navigator on the market -- an irresistible design that begs to be turned on and shown off. The sleek new look made a big impact by winning the product design competition at this year's Red Dot Design Awards in a field of more than 4,000 submissions from 57 countries.

Picture perfect in landscape or portrait

The award-winning design of nuvi 3790T, nuvi 3760T and nuvi 3750 continues with the easy-to-use 4.3" WVGA display with smooth glass capacitive touch panel that lets users see their preloaded maps and intuitive menus in landscape or portrait modes -- ideal for use in the car or on foot.

Zoom, pinch, press and drag with Multi-touch

The new capacitive multi-touch display in the nuvi 3700 series allows users to zoom in and out (by double-tapping or "pinching" the map), browse surrounding areas on the map (dragging a finger), or change perspective from 2D to 3D and rotate the map 360 degrees (two-finger drag or twist). And to avoid inadvertent touches, the nuvi 3700 series features a simple screen lock, so you can tap the power button, slide nuvi into your pocket and go.

Garmin's nu flagship: nuvi 3790T

-- With a customizable "wake-up phrase" to initiate voice-activated navigation, nuvi 3790T lets you tell it what to do and where to go while you keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

-- And the road ahead never looked so realistic, thanks to the unprecedented details of 3D terrain and 3D buildings. Whether you're heading for rolling hills or urban canyons, the shaded topography and realistic landmarks provide unrivaled context and enhanced situational awareness.

nuRoute with trafficTrends(TM) and myTrends(TM)

-- Providing efficient routing and realistic arrival times, trafficTrends(TM) recommends routes using historical traffic data and recurring trends at any given time or day.

-- Making your commute easier than ever, nuvi 3700 series remembers your frequent destinations and uses myTrends(TM) to predict your destination without you needing to activate a route, displaying your arrival time and best route based on relevant traffic information.

Smarter routing in your car and on foot

-- For safer, stress-free travel, nuvi 3790T and nuvi 3760T feature free lifetime traffic alerts and Bluetooth(R) wireless technology for hands-free calling with a compatible phone.

-- The entire nuvi 3700 series is preloaded with ecoRoute(TM) to help drivers with fuel-efficient navigation, helping to conserve both gas and money.

-- Take the nuvi 3700 series with you and enjoy the new streamlined, pocket-friendly design even more through enhanced pedestrian mode with public transit options through cityXplorer(TM) content. Available at www.garmin.com, cityXplorer helps you with options to navigate by foot or using a combination of buses, tramway, metro and suburban rail systems.

Innovations abound in nuvi 3700 series

-- Voice prompts are clearer than ever because of a secondary speaker located on the powered suction cup mount, offering the highest sound quality in the nuvi lineup.

-- Customizable wallpaper -- view, crop and save images right on your nuvi.

-- Lane assist with junction view helps you navigate with confidence while nuvi directs you to the preferred lane, with realistic images of upcoming complex junctions where available.

-- Speed limit indicator displays speed limits for most major roads.

-- Patented auto time zone allows nuvi to automatically adjust your time zone while navigating.

-- Garmin Connect(TM) Photos will associate your favorite images with saved locations. Visit http://connect.garmin.com for additional information.

-- "Where Am I?" feature lets you quickly tap the screen to find the closest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, nearest address, intersection and coordinates.

The nuvi 3700 series is the latest breakthrough from Garmin, which has spent more than 20 years developing technologies and innovations to enhance users' lives, making Garmin a household name in the automotive, aviation, marine, wireless, outdoor and fitness industries. I've heard availability will be June. One comment was that the 37xx models will make as big a splash in the market as the 3xx models did when they arrived 5/6 years ago. Hopefully Garmin gets it right the first time.

If these devices ship with tired FM-TMC traffic and not connected services, I am already not impressed. The only reason they'd do that is to try and artificially protect the sales of their misguided nuvifones.

As nice as these look, I just don't see them selling well to the masses at $350 - $450 MSRP, in a world of sub-$150 GPS devices. Not to mention the competition from GPS capable modern smartphones. I see these more as a promotional tool for Garmin, which is a good thing. It's a way to get people to notice them again.

I was very disappointed to learn that these units are indeed not connected to anything and use FM TMC traffic. Big fail, Garmin. They look so awesome, too.

In keeping with Garmin's policy of reducing the clutter of useful features and limit distractions with each newer series, this new more powerful model may not allow you to search for your own points of interest, but rather suggest a list of places Garmin thinks you might like to go. The 'What can I see from my windows" feature will now show you mapping information of 300ft around your car, this new 'Need to Know Basis' mapping technology will decide what you should know about the area you are navigating. :) I kid, of course....

If they want my $350 hard earn dollars, they need to start listening to customers. Put enough processing power in these to do the job. Or they will be creating a whole new batch of disappointed Garmin fans.

LOL, I watched the vid... I've heard alot of complaints about the nuvi's lately, 'too thick' wasn't on the list.

"I think it's looks will help sell it" Can't argue, it's attractive, but that's hardly what we've all been waiting for

I worry too because I bet the speaker on this new unit is horrible since they need the speaker in the special windshield mount. This seems to be a potential disaster. I've been waiting since the 1690 for Garmin to release a non-buggy, ad-free version of the 1690 updated...and this is what I get? I might just have to settle for the 1690 if I want an Internet connected Garmin GPS.

I need something for when MSN Direct ends.

The suction cup mount with speaker only comes standard on the 2 models with traffic receivers (3760T and 3790T). The traffic receiver will now plug into the POWERED speaker mount. Hopefully the internal speaker is "good enough" for anyone buying a 3750 but they will have the option to purchase the speaker mount.

My guess,
nothing can be customized or changed. GPS made for dummies.
I am still waiting for an high end GPS to replace the ond 27xx 75xx 276 series GPS.
Custom zoom levels for maps and POI is a big plus for me.
But we have to wait and see what comes out of this new GPS.

Previously owned : GPS "eTrex Yellow" "GPSmap 76S" "GPSMap 60CS" "GPSMAP 60CSx" "Nüvi 660"
Unit I have now :"Nüvi 760 EU" "Nüvi 765" "Edge 305" "Colorado 300"
