| My vehicle has instant MPG readout (that I tested before and found it accurate), and I can confirm that Garmin gives reading 20-25% higher than the vehicle's build-in gauge. So, I wouldn't trust it for MPG calculations, but the other gauges are quite useful. |

Thanks for the info semka, its nice to know that it isn't my vehicle but a EcoRoute HD problem.

Nuvi 3790 ecoRoute hd, Acura Rsx
This combination is telling me 58 MPG on the road and 48 MPG around town.
The actual MPG for this car is 35 MPG max highway and 28 MPG around town. |

| My ecoRoute HD in my Honda Ridgeline seems pretty accurate looking at the instant mpg readouts. OTOH, my accumulated mileage between fillups tends to run high on the GPS. Not sure why that would be. |

I've noticed that the ecoRoute HD has a different part number for US (010-11380-00) and Europe (010-11380-10). Is that because the OBDII standard is different or what?
US ones are cheaper on ebay, is it likely to go pear shaped if I try and use it on a European Ford Focus and a UK Nuvi? |

Good guess but I'd say not. If there were three, US, European and UK then I'd say you could well be right.
But UK would be stuffed with the European litres/100km for fuel consumption for example. UK generally want degC for temps, miles for distance and speed, mpg for fuel consumption (UK gallons of course) and mostly psi for pressure.
Perhaps it's as simple as the two kinds of gallon? |

| I just finished my first tank of fuel on my Jetta TDI where I reset the Ecoroute HD at the time of last fill up. Upon fill-up my calculated MPG was 44.9 with the Ecoroute reporting 45.2 mpg. That's pretty darn close and well within the margin of error due to filling volume differences. |

Gotta love those TDI mpg numbers anyway you calculate them. |

I've been crying at how low my mileage has been lately. The winterized fuel and below freezing temps have knocked my average down by 4 to 6 mpg.
The Ecoroute gives a continuous readout and a total cumulative average mpg. I would like to also have an average mpg for the last 100 miles and a an average consumption readout in either liters/100km or gallons/100miles. Consumption is a better way so compare fuel use. |

Yup, it's that time of year when us TDI owners have to "put up with" a mere 42 mpg or so on the highway, down from 47 [sigh].
Keep in mind that the TDIs take a long time to break in, and your mpg will improve as the engine loosens up. I can still see some continuing improvement at 15,000 miles versus last winter when the car had only about 6000 on it.

| 1999 Chev K1500 pickup, 3790T, After checking several tankfuls, the gallons used is about 20-25% low resulting in MPG about 20-25% high. The mileage between the odometer and GPS are very close so its not a miles traveled issue. This makes me doubt the other parameters of EcoRoute HD. From previous posts it appears to be great and accurate on some vehicles and useless on others. My truck has OBDII and it stays paired without interuption. Right now I'm in the useless category and considering removing it. For those that it is accurate its a great unit. Maybe something will come out down the road to correct it. Thanks for listening. |

Can some with EchoRoute test if it is possible to change settings to metric to see if this is stored in the device or in the GPS? |

I'm in Australia and bought the US version from Amazon in the US. The model number is the same as that sold in Australia. With my 3790T, it just used the default settings (for Australia) showing temperature in degrees C, distances in kilometers and fuel consumption in litres per 100k. I don't know what is different about the European version.
Hope this helps. |

| A wild guess, Is the imperial gallon still used in Canada and UK for measuring fuel economy. If some models of the the Ecoroute HDs are programed for the imperial gallon it would account for the approx. 20% error I am getting in MPG and fuel used. In internet research I found some references that even though they have converted to metric the imperial gallon is still used for MPG computing in these countrys. A US gallon is about 83% of a imperial gallon. Maybe someone more familiar with can comment. |
