Here is my Wish List for improvements to the 4700. Please add yours.
Maybe Mitac/Magellan monitors these forums, or we could send it on their website support section:
1. Bluetooth functions need to be improved I could pair a second phone but not communicate using it, even if the primary phone was turned off.
2. Also with the phone function, trying to dial a number directly from the address book only works occasionally with Bluetooth, not consistently.
3. When first starting a navigation route, there is no initial verbal command, especially if you start from a parking lot or shopping center that is not completely mapped. The map show the route, but there is no command until after you start on the initial road.
4. I don't think there is a mechanism for manually adding just a name and phone number to the address/phone book without going to the address find senario and GoTo screen and saving.
5. It would be nice to pair a second phone and a second imported phonebook, or merge phonebooks from more than one paired cell phone.

Pleas add your suggestions, and when we get a significant number, we can try to contact Magellan. Most of these can probably be incorporated in an update of firmware and or/software.

More WISH list, followed by KUDOS list:
Fix the reboot issue, especially Florida destinations
Increase the number of Bluetooth compatible phones
Be able to plot a route from point A to point B without using the user's starting location on the GPS
Have the Traffic Link icon flash or show a number when there are traffic issues, and appear faded when there are no issues
Work on the TTS function a little; "left" sounds like "lith"
Consider a "recalculating" note on the machine to let you know what's its doing if you go off the route intentionally or otherwise.
Having a "return route" from a destination as an option
Work on voice recognition; it only works rarely on the first try, if at all

The above are mostly enhancements, except the reboot issue!

NOW FOR SOME THINGS I AM REALLY IMPRESSED WITH:
Fairly quick bootup
The quick speed at which the unit locks on to satellites and stays locked on to the signal in adverse conditions; much faster and steadier than older units even with WAAS!
The speed at which the unit recalculates a new route when you detour or go off route, miss a turn etc.
The great bell or chime audio prompt right before a turn is reached; two tones with up frequency for R, down for L, and same two tones for straight or merge.
The automatic change from day to night on the display, if set to do so.
The thinness of the unit.
I like Traffic Link so far (in our area) despite some of the bad press I have seen.
Fairly simple menu system for novices
Portability
=========================================
Please, add your good or not so good comments as you see fit!

Add:
1. Add separate day and night screen brightness settings.

2. When Traffic signal is not available, make the Traffic Icon disappear on the screen.

3. Improve Zoom in/out feature. After set(- or +) your zoom level, that should stay at the same level when plot a new route.

4. Use Check Box for Traffic Features on route or all traffic.

5. Need much improvement on Voice Command feature.

6. Add something like Mio Moov 500 Drop-down menu for destination info.

Good suggestions! I would elaborate a little on that:
Save all or most the user's last settings, such as zoom level, 3D or 2D, so we don't have to re-enter those preferences. Make the last use parameters the new default. That would allow a lot less key strokes each time.

I think the Traffic Link icon should appear all the time, so we know it is working, but it could be grayed out if there are no traffic problems. This would also enable the ads to appear; these ads pay for the service. Perhaps double clicking or holding down the TL icon could turn it off if desired.

Keep 'em comin' !

I think these are well thought out and most probably could be incorporated in an update. They do require Magellan's programming time and effort, so they would be appreciated by the users. If and when they are available, that fact should be made known to both users (web site news) and to dealers to help sales. (Just my idea )

Another suggestion:

When Voice Commands is improved upon, it would be nice to be able to dial a phone number from the dial pad by voice. (numeric)
Even better, but a little more in a future wish list would be the ability to dial a phone number by voice from the address book or when a POI pops up with a phone number.

A few items:

1) TrafficLink: All the ones listed already plus a better description of where the event is located. I see "Slow traffic <7 min". Where is it? If you have multiple events the map screen is useless.

2) Ability to choose between a Traffic Link for NAVTEQ and one for Clear Channel/Inrix. Depending on city, one is better than the other.

3) Screen calibration: people have different angles they press and different size fingers.

4) Have two data items at the bottom of the screen so I can have ETA and distance left on the screen at the same time. Crazy that I have to choose one or the other. Every other system has this.

5) Speed Limit data. This is on the 4350 and other Maestros.

6) Louder TTS. You hear loud and clear "turn left on" and then muffled, low "main street". Just pump up the volume!

But it is a good navigation unit. Just needs some bug fixes and a few features to be great.

Lots of good suggestions above!
One trick I have learned with the touchscreens:
I keep a lead pencil with an eraser nearby on the console. The pencil part and point are protected with some duct or insulation tape, and only the soft eraser part is exposed. It is easier, faster and more accurate than a finger(usually)for the touch screen. There is actually an accessory stylus available on Amazon for GPS units, but my home made device seems to work well. It's even softer and cleaner than a finger, or fingernail!

Two more:

1. Relocate the Traffic Sensor closer to the GPS.

2. Improvement on the Cradle.

I agree with both the above; good idea. The traffic sensor flops around near the power cord outlet. It might even get better reception higher up.
I have a slight issue with the cradle/adapter. I am average height and when I mount the unit on top of the dash, I have to look slightly up to be parallel with the screen, even if I have the car seat adjusted high. I can't get the adapter to bend DOWN enough, only up. Maybe it's just an issue with my SUV, but I would think others have the same issue.

Another "tip"
To keep the unit's power cord wires from flopping around the car, wrap around the cord a small piece of Velcro (or two) at appropriate parts of the cord, and locate the opposite small tabs of velcro on the dash etc. to secure the cord. A very small tab of Velcro does fine. It's also easy to disengage when you want to take down the unit to hide it in the car.

Add AIRPORTS to POIs under TRANSPORTATION

Did I miss this somewhere?

Also add custom POI ability and more branded icons. Starbucks is cool, but what about Mickey D's??? Those of us with kids could certainly benefit from that.

ERROR: Actually my prior message about airports was incorrect; there is an entire TAB for Airports under POIs! Sorry

I'd like to see the simulator mode put on the main tools menu. This is very useful for teaching others how to use the GPS as well as just fun and informative for reviewing your route.

It's already been mentioned, but I'd like to second the request for the ability to create a route from other than your current location. This could be similar to Garmin's "Custom Route" feature.

Please fix the way routes are handled with multiple destinations. It really is clumsy the way it is now.

A couple more
Be able to add an intersection to the OneTouch Button page Assign command. You can add an address, but not an intersection. This would come in handy if the current map is not up to date with a new address or road; so you can find a nearby area and save it. It also does not seem possible to save an intersection to the OneTouch Menu while you are saving it to the Address Book, even though the menu asks.

Wow, good list. Don't expect Mag R&D landing this page. I suggest to send the Wish List in to their Tech Support group and hope they will forward it to their Engineering team. In addition, submit the same on their site under http://www.magellangps.com/contact/question.asp

I've only been using the 4700 for a few days now after switching from a Garmin 755t. Many of the features are better or equal, I'm pretty pleased so far. The few things that immediately come to mind are:

1. A way to import waypoints from Google Maps (Garmin does this)

2. Speed limit on screen

3. Software to manage the device from a PC.

4. Ability to have different screen brightness for day and night.
