quote: You can try yet the command line tool ozf2img.
I've been following this thread and have had some success in converting my OziExplorer maps to kmz and sending them to my Oregon. However, there is a problem with the maps in that the left-hand 48 pixels of the ozfx3 map are all white when converted to a PNG with the above tool. Is this something you have seen before? |

Skicat, may be your area selection in MapMerge caused that. May be you selected an area, which is partially out of your map.
You can try to rotate and reproject the original map also using MapEdit++, as I mentioned in the 1st post of this page. The conversion is simple: - choose File -> Open to open OziExplorer MAP file - set zoom to native resolution of the map - choose Export -> OziExplorer map, set bounds and save your map. |

Thanks for your reply, bogi. I would prefer to continue to try and get the MapMerge solution to work as I am actually selecting several smaller maps together. I tried it all again from the start and this time the left white band is 27 pixels wide. I also noticed there is a white band at the bottom of the map, just a few pixels but still should not be there. I am convinced that everything is ok until ozf2img. I have compared the created ozfx3 map with the PNG file and the ozfx3 map does have map detail which seems to have been over-written in the PNG file. This is important - the ozf2img is not just adding a white margin - it is actually overwriting some of the map image on the left and bottom borders.
I am happy to send you the map I'm using if you would like to recreate the problem (although the ozfx3 map is 9.2Mb). |

| Skicat: I can try to reproduce it. Just upload it somewhere and let me know the download link (here or via PM). |

| I've uploaded it, but I can't find a way to send you a PM. I tried the e-mail feature from your profile page but it has been disabled :-( |

| Bogi: I've tried DeMapper and it all works fine. Thanks again for taking the time to look at the problem. |

Geronimo998, the bitmap file of your OziExplorer map was not found by the program.
OziMapToKMZ uses path to bitmap file, which is written in the MAP file. Please collect both MAP and bitmap file to the same directory. Then check your .MAP file and remove path from the 3rd line, so only bitmap filename without path will remain in the 3rd line.
Please note too, that your input map should have bitmap in JPG, PNG or BMP format. |

OziMapToKmz is very useful for me - I use Dakota 20 with custom maps. But there are almost always small rotation during scanning of map. Is it possible to add input field "Rotation" with default value of 0 and generate tag <rotation>ENTERED_VALUE</rotation> ? |

The author of the program no longer develops it. But I can suggest you all another free and very well functioning tool MAPC2MAPC: http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/ http://www.trekbuddy.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3389 https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=3659 It doesn't only generate Garmin KMZ. Short description from author: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MAPC2MAPC is a program to calibrate maps and convert calibration files for digital maps from one format to another. Will read and write MAP (Ozi), JPR (Memory-map, Fugawi), GMI (GPSTuner), MCD (GPSMAPOS, GPSGO), CAL (Pathaway), TFW (Mapyx/Quo). Will also read KML, KMZ, GUX (GPSU) and IMP(CompeGPS). Will handle different input datums but always writes WGS84. Will also write the calibrated map as 'tiles' for Trekbuddy or Garmin Custom Maps. Calibrated maps can be rescaled or cropped whilst preserving the calibration. Calibrated maps may be merged or joined together. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the area of Garmin KMZ generation, it has one very nice and useful feature. It allows to deselect tiles, which you didn't wish to be included in the resulting KMZ. Very useful for non-rectangular areas of interest because of Garmin's limit of max. 100 JPGs.
If you wish to disuss about MAPC2MAPC, it would be better to start a separate thread. |
