| Looking for a decent windshield mount that easily swivels from landscape to portrait orientation. Any suggestions? Also are there any mounts which would accept car charger cable instead of plugging in into iPhone itself? |

Some iPhone users have been reporting excellent results with the RAM windshield mount. It is a 2 part solution consisting of a holder which facilitates a charger cable http://bit.ly/d8ESF and a suction mount like this one http://bit.ly/C47uJ.
I eventually purchased a vent mount - centre console - as it was not convenient to use the RAM mount in my car. The vent mount is a bit dodgy from a stability point of view (compared to a windshield mount) and had to tie it down with some flexible velcro to ensure it did not jiggle. |

Gpspassion, that turned to be an excellent advice but not for all intended reasons. I didn't care much for the mount itself but for $10 it's totally ok. But the mount and associated cradle for iPhone have a huge advantage - the ball joint that attaches mount to the cradle is compatible with the Garmin mount! Meaning that the ball on the standard and excellent Garmin mount is the same size as on Semson's mount and thus Garmin nicely fits into Semson's iPhone cradle. So I don't have to lug in my car the [ed] additional Semsons' mount. I just simply can reuse my stock light, flexible and elegant Garmin mount that I always carry in the car.

I use a DLO vent mount with a Belkin tunecast charger. I don't have aux in on my stereo, so the FM broadcast must do for the time being, and the clarity of instruction is much better over the air than via the iphone speaker.
I considered an alternative mount... in fact I was going almost demented trying to work out which would be best, and thought to buy the tomtom cradle (I do prefer the cradle style) but when I discovered that my phone gets quite hot when using GPS, realised that I already had the best solution for keeping it cool whilst in use. Over here in Oz we have already had a few 42C degree days (thats 107F) and I think its inviting trouble to have your iphone on a car windshield in our summers. But, to each his/her own :) |

I have the Arkon Mini Windshield Mount and found it to be simple, solid and just right for my 3G and now 3GS (... although I'm being tempted by the TomTom car kit).

| Yes, they had sent it to me last year actually, does the job, alhtough it snaps on the iPhone a bit hard, got me concerned at first. It's just a holder though, no power/speaker/GPS inside ;-) |

| I use the XM Skydock which lets you use the iPhone as an xm radio it also charges the phone and has an FM transmitter. The dock has a bendable neck and can turn from portrait to landscape. It also comes with aux in cable to plug into aux port on radio. I stopped using it as an xm radio but it still works for listening to your music and whatever else through the car speakers. |

I have 3 mounts that I switch between depending on my needs.
GOOD: First is a generic phone holder that I picked up at Canadian Tire for about $10 CAD. It has two rubber "feet" that stick out to support the bottom of the phone and two bendable "arms" that support the sides. I have this one mounted between my head unit and the left-centre air vent. Because it is adjustable, it will handle any case you happen to have and because it is in 2 pieces (one piece is the base and it is about .75" x 1.5" and sticks on the dash and the other is the holder that slips into the base), you can remove the holder part in about 1 second and throw it in the glove box.
BETTER: The second is the Kensington Car Kit for iPhone, which uses a passive speaker arrangement and increases the volume by about double. It's about $40 CAD.

BEST: And the third is the Magellan Car Kit that I purchased primarily for use in rental cars for when I travel. And of course it is not cheap at $149 CAD. |

| Haven't had a change to try the Magellan Kit yet, but I've been very happy with the TomTom Car Kit, clearly they provide the same "bonus" when using your iPhone in your car : mount, power, gps, bluetooth, speaker ! |
