[ed]For reference the GPS chipsets used by Garmin are analyzed here on the portal : [GUIDE] GPS Chipsets used on Garmin GPS Systems. Type M and M2 are the same MTK 3318 (MTK v1) GPS chipset by Mediatek, first used on the eTrex Hcx series in the summer of 2007 and then on the nuvi 860, 765, 865, etc... |

Thanks gpspassion for the edit. It's hard to get the topic/post 100% right the first time, try as I might. Thank heavens for the ability to edit. |

| Love the chipset reference page. Garmin's MyDashboard now says that my 755t is up to date. I wanted to verify I got GPS SW 2.90, so I pressed tools, Settings, System, About (bottom of screen), Software Versions. That told me GPS: 2.70 (and Text and Voice version numbers). The GPS 2.70 does not sound right. Note: I did a unit update via MyDashboard and garmin directory copied to SD card before I did the MyDashboard update to my 755t (made sure to remove SD card). |

I cycled power 3 times before previous post, and 3 more times after reading your post. I don't remember a GPS firmware updating step on my 755t after connecting to MyDashboard. jotne's post made me think about Webupdater option and ...
I used Webupdater and It listed a type chipset update. I downloaded it, rebooted, and got a GPS update on my 755t. Then I got GPS firmware update AGAIN, and I was thinking not the loop again, not the loop again. I checked the GPS SW and it said 0.00. I quickly powered off and on and everything was normal (no loops) and GPS SW was 2.90. It acquired Sats within 1 minute (indoors) as I'm used to, so everything is grand.
I don't like MyDashboard because it does not list what exactly you are updating and give you the option to select individual updates, and it had me stuck on GPS SW 2.70 after using MyDashboard yesterday and when it was returned from Garming (would not turn on). Note that I was updating to a Garmin forlder on SD card and then updating to the 755t (always remembering to remove SD card for nuvi update).
I'm sticking to WebUpdater for now. |

I find this whole business very strange! Garmin Dashboard told me a GPS Hotfix was available for my 765T, presumably 2.90 as I was already on 2.70. Before accepting the update I ran Webupdater and it listed the hotfix in the upper pane of the final page but when highlighted it did not show any additional info in the lower pane. I went ahead with the Dashboard update and it seemed to update OK (as reported by Dashboard) but in S/W Versions it still lists 2.70 as the GPS version? Furthermore, Webupdater still lists three updates in the upper panel but when highlighted no update info is displayed in the lower panel whereas Dashboard shows all up-to-date? Any ideas/advice appreciated. |

Best tip I can give you is to stay away from myDashboard. It's inaccurate, doesn't update what you'd expect it to be updating, doesn't give you a choice of what to update, doesn't tell you what's being updated and regardless of what it's "updating" (voices, etc.), it will always state that it's "updating firmware".
Just use WebUpdater and avoid the myDashboard garbage. |

I'm getting a strange glitch after updating to GPS SW 2.90 and performing a hard reset and loading my favorites back using Mapsource. On a 20 minute trip I lost Sats 11 times. The Sat screen was reporting 20 feet or better reception and then when I was stopped it would freeze for 3 seconds and then report acquiring Sats (also saw the map freeze for 3 seconds before loosing Sats). I had no route for half the trip and set a destination for the other half and it consistently lost Sat when I stopped at a light either way.
Further testing indoors showed that while standing still after 30 - 35 seconds the sat screen would freeze for 3 - 4 seconds then all sat bars go blank and it starts acquiring sats. It acquires sats in 3 - 4 seconds, then freezes after 30 - 35 seconds to repeat the cycle. When it freezes and looses Sats it is consistently showing accuracy of 20 feet or less. I repeated the cycle 6 times in a row. I tried another hard reset without loading favorites back and repeated 2 cycles in a row of loosing Sats every approx 35 seconds.
I guess I will be calling Garming Monday morning.
Can anybody reproduce this glitch? (I hope not) |

All is fine here with both my 760 and 765 running GPS v2.90. No drops, no oddities. Maybe your initial update didn't "take" the right way the first time. With the main GPS firmware, this can usually be corrected by reflashing the same version and/or the hard reset.I don't think you can reflash the same GPS chipset version (or earler) either since I believe I've tried before at some point.
I think your best bet is to call Garmin as you've said. |

The GPS Firmare 2.90 was already part of the 2.70 Taiwan Firmware. Running here since 1 month fine |

| On the firmware updates, Garmin usually posts the changes made. I do not see anything that lists changes made to this software and hotfix update. Am I missing a posting? |

Thanks for that SergZak and another query if I may. Currently, WebUpdater is showing three updates in the upper pane of the final screen, viz; 1) GPS Chipset Type M 2) Text Proximity Alerts, All Languages 3) Traffic Text All Languages.
However, when I select (highlight) any of these entries the lower pane advises *No change history was found for this update*. So my question is do you reckon I should go head and update or just ignore these? (I find it confusing that they should appear in the upper pane at all when the lower pane advises no update is available)! |
