Good catch (added some pictures to your post), yes, ironic that the first full turn by turn application for the Apple iPhone to be shown (at CeBIT 2008) is one of the last to durface ;-)
Hopefully it is a full version like what Sygic did, rather than "showcase" like Navigon did, at least so far. |

| Really the more basic version, based on iGO Amigo rather then iGo My Way. |

I just got it, froze on me once already. Also, why the heck is it stuck in night mode when I start it all the time (options say DEFAULT and not NIGHT), then suddenly while driving for 10 minutes it turns into day. Anyone else have this problem?
Sigh, no text to speech with Navigon and no text to speech with this new IGO either. |

Seems like many of these don't have TTS. Garmin Mobile XT doesn't have TTS on Windows Mobile either. Guess they want you to buy their PND instead, but then they should charge less for a software only product! The time has passed when they can charge $100. for the software, b/c back when both PDA and stand alone PND were very expensive, more than $500. at the time!
Now one could buy a stand alone PND for less than $100., why pay for a software only? |

| Does anyone have both this application and TomTom and care to provide a comparison? I need to get one of the navigation apps that has both US and European maps. I am familiar with TomTom on Windows Mobile and their standalone units (I have a TomTom 340 XLS) but not the various iGo versions. |

No TomTom yet and this type of question belongs in a comparison topic, but I've been testing iGo for a week and it does the job, with the usual limitations of iPhone software, no traffic, no custom POIs, miles away from what we have on AIOs and even WM.
One particuliar annoyance I have with iGO is that you can't tap the map to get information on POIs you see on the map.
Honestly if you need serious navigation assistance in Europe I'd get a TomTom ONE v5 or buy European maps for your 340. |

Thanks! I was hoping to not carry around another unit while traveling. It would be great if my iPhone could suffice like my Windows Mobile phone with TomTom did before it. It also stopped providing guidance while a call came in, but started again quickly as soon as I hung up. Hopefully the iPhone can do something similar. TomTom also doesn't let you tap on a POI to get information about it. I can't remember if Garmin Mobile XT did either.
How do you like the guidance provided by iGo? It seems to have lane guidance that is left out of the TomTom software. Also, what map provider does iGo use? Are the iGo routes comparable to TomTom or Garmin?
By the way, the only comparison topic I found was in the hardware section for AIO units. The software section doesn't have such a topic at all. |

Well then you should start one, although the current guide could probably be used for that : http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=128017
iGO have switched to Navteq maps for the iPhone version. I haven't used it enough on the road to judge the quality of routes. Haven't tried calls with iGO (I use my iPhone as a mobile terminal, not as a phone) but it likely behaves like all other iPhone GPS software, closes when the call comes in and you have to relaunch the app, in some cases its automatic. I woulnd't worry about carrying another device with me on a trip, in any case you'll have to carry a mount for your iPhone and a car charger, and I'd rather have my AIO run out of batteries than my phone. |

I have to carry the car charger for my phone no matter what. Most cars only have one charging port so if I can plug in a single device I'm ahead, and don't need a splitter.
So far I haven't really needed a mount for the phone. I can just place it in a cup holder or the center console and it still holds on to the satellites, at least in the relatively open roads of Texas. I do agree an AIO may run longer than the phone, but for many trips it would need charging too.
Navigon has lane guidance that works pretty well for me. iGo seems to have it too. If only the iPhone didn't stop the nav apps when a call comes in and if the GPS reception were a little better, it would completely obviate the need for an AIO for me. |
