There doesn't appear to be much information available for unlocking Mio Spirit models and the little information available isn't consolidated in one place. This thread ought to be useful for many people. I'm also hoping that Spirit owners will post their models and "SEEKER" folder names here so that I can make the MioPocket Readme as complete as possible.
SD Unlocking Instructions:
1. Create, in the root of your SD card, a folder named "Default" (so that it looks like \Storage card\Default).
If that doesn't work, use, instead, one of the following names, depending on your model (Note: filenames ARE case-sensitive):
* Spirit S400/S410: SEEKER_400 * Spirit S500/S505: SEEKER_T500
If "Default" doesn't work and one the "SEEKER" names doesn't work, connect your device to your computer and, if you have a file named "app_startup.txt" in the root of your flash drive, open it, scroll down to the very bottom and look for the line that starts with RunSDCardExecutable. That line will look something like this...
RunSDCardExecutable(SmartST_CE - Run()): CreateProcess(\Storage card\FOLDER\auto.exe) failed, error 2
...with FOLDER being the folder name that your device requires. Create that folder on your SD card.
2. Next, copy the file that you want to unlock the device with to your "SEEKER" folder and rename it to Auto.exe. If you're trying to unlock with MioPocket, copy MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe to your "SEEKER" folder and rename the first two to Auto.exe and Auto.mscr, respectively.
3. If you have the USB cable attached, disconnect it. While your device is on, insert your SD card into your device. If it's already in, pop it out and back in. Alternately, you may be able to initiate installation by tapping the power button once and then, once the screen goes off, once again. You may need to move the slider switch all the way to the right, then back to the fully left position.
That ought to run whatever you renamed to Auto.exe, hopefully unlocking your device. Note that I don't own a Spirit and have never used one, so don't count on me being able to help beyond this, but, if you ask in this thread, another Spirit owner may be able to help.
Most importantly, please add to the list of models and "SEEKER" folders above if yours are not included. I'd like to get a list going for Spirit models like I did for the Moovs last year. |

Osprey, I am interested too on those models ... (I don't have one). I did some researches and my opinion is that those two models are SDMK2450 based. Where released (more or less) in the same time with Magellan Maestro 1440/1470. Those are based on SDMK2450 and the wince behind is generous with components (Not like C320 series ... but not far away). If some one can help me with a SMFlash download I will be able to give you more details about components / structure of the wince from the MIOs Spirit Series. My first impression is that those follows the Navman unlocking procedure. |

Hi All, I own a Spirit V735. it has been very easy to unlock: as a confirmation of Osprey suggestions I confirm a Auto.exe file is needed within the root of your Storage Card. this could be the Total Commander et similia....
Auto.exe is called from SmartST_CE together with other exe files. You can get rid of everything you won't need (background tasks), by means of every task manager foe Win CE 5.0.
[edit - see PM]
Have fun!

redeyes, Auto.exe in the root of the SD card, not in a folder? Are you sure about that? If so, that's different than other Spirit models. |

Osprey: my mistake; it's within \Storage Card\Default\ (you need to create it).
more hints, from registry:
-GPS port is COM,2 here. -TMC port is COM,1 [edit] - a virtual COM,8 is created and apparently this is a replication of COM,2 GPS port.

redeyes, If you have unlocked your device - can you dump SMFlash (using DiscRW http://www.gpspassion.com/upload2/DiskRW.rar)? 1.Start DisKRW 2.Select from combo-box (right side of to 'Store:' label) -> SMFlash 3.Press '...' button and select 'Storage Card' (where to save your SMFlash.img). Make sure you have 64Megs free on the SDCard. 4.Press 'Read' button 5.After the SMFlash is downloaded you'll receive a Message Box as confirmation (that download was finish). |

redeyes717, By non contributing to this forum you are not hurting the "forum admin" ... you are hurting the "experienced user" that has a problem and want to fix it or improve his/here GPS capabilities. Is better to discuss and fix your misunderstandings with the admin/moderators and help further "the simple users". Is your choice, but don't let the rage manage your filings. |

hi redeyes,
Just today i was looking at a Moov V735 in a shop and i found your postings. May I ask you a few questions about the device?
- which win ce version is it running? - how complete or uncomplete does that version appear to you? - do you know if your gps altitude is correctly displayed - how is the screen performance in direct sunlight? - how is screen brightness compared to other devices? - any major problem with the device? - does a changed registry and a changed windows directory survive a soft and/or hard reset?
I am looking for a very large display windows ce driven pna for air navigation. Right now i am using a 5"6 VDO dayton PN6000. Lots of display real estate already but low resolution. So the V735 interests me a lot. Thank you very much for any feedback!

I have a Mio Moov Spirit S505 (TMC included). Nice hardware, lousy software! The auto.exe should be in the folder 'Default'. I found the information here: http://navmanunlocked.forumwise.com/navmanunlocked-thread1233-0-asc-0.html I also installed MioPocket 3.0 (release 49) on the Flash memory. It got installed alright and now I can choose between the original SmartST_CE program and MioPocket. However, I cannot get the icons linked to the programs since the Icon Editor doesn't work properly. Any hints?
I experimented with some of the navigation programs & got a set of them working. However, the main problem here is the TMC... I experimented a lot with different programs & settings but was never successful to get it working with another navigation program. I must have experimented to much because now it doesn't even work with the original program!
There is also a problem watching video as already mentioned by awol3. I wonder if there isn't an easier way to fix this...
Garmin seems to block after the startup screen. I guess it conflicts with one of the background programs or has a problem with the COM's...
Any help is welcome!

For Mio Spirit S555:
1. Create, in the root of your SD card a folder. 2. Set the folder name to "Default". 3. Copy MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr and MortScript.exe to your "Default" folder and rename the first two to Auto.exe and Auto.mscr (if you are unlock with MioPocket or MioPoket Lite). 4. Insert your SD card into your device. 5. Reset your device from the Power switch. Move the slider switch all the way to the right, then back to the fully left position. 6. Wait a moment. Watch then the installation and tap the screen when you are ask to select something.

Hi,
I am a newbie so please disregard my dumb questions.
I followed the instructions to attempt unlocking my Moov S501.
When I insert the SD card and reset, I get an error message: ERROR #2 CreateFile \Storage card\Default\autoscp.
When am I doing wrong here? Thanks! |

shaig, Does auto.scp exist? You will need auto.exe and auto.scp. Also, make sure that you didn't rename the first file to auto.exe.exe, which is sometimes easy to do in Windows. If you still can't figure things out, try a different unlock. Those that use the "scp" scripting language are usually out-of-date and not as powerful as ones that use "mscr". |

Hello, Hope the Spirit models will reveal there secrets soon. Here are some more info for Mio Moov S505 Spirit:
-the device executes any auto.exe placed in Storage card\Default or in Storage card\SEEKER_T500 (the last one takes precedence in case you put them both). And yes, it does execute also any file called navigation.exe put in Storage Card\Navigation\ folder, as you can see below. -the device has one button on the front left margin, the code generated at pressing that button is 00C4, you can use this to program it to do something in MioPocket or in igo or whatever. -there is no "app_startup.txt" in root of flash drive -there is no "AppStartupSec.ini" anywhere on flash drive -there is a "ProcessMgr.ini" on My flash Disk\Program Files\system\, content: [GEN] config1 = 0,3000,99443, heartbeat = 500,5,,, apcall00 = \My Flash Disk\Program Files\MioMap\PLUGINS\FMT\Bin\FMtransmitter.exe,-h,0,1,1,1000, apcall01 = \Storage Card\Navigation\Navigation.exe,,2,0,2,2000, apcall02 = \My Flash Disk\Program Files\MioMap\spirit.exe,,0,0,0,2000, scrsavconf = 31,2000,,, [WM_MESSAGE] msg00 = 0,1046,0,0,\Windows\USBScreen.exe,,0:3317::,196896 , msg01 = 0,1058,0,0,,500,0:3309::,512, msg02 = 0,1048,0,0,,500,,20,
-it has a folder My flash Disk\Program Files\Miomap -here there are 2 files (among others) called spirit.exe and spirit.ini -content of spirit.ini is: [Main] ;Screen=WQVGA Captionless=1 MapDir=\My Flash Disk\Program Files\MioMap\maps NewExplore=0 MapColors=Spirit.lvx MapNightColors=Spirit_n.lvx
show_warning_window=0 ;these 2 lines are added by me, but not working warning_on_wakeup=0
DLLID=8 StreetFontEnlarge = 6 auto_zoom_max = 12
[Navigation] ShowRawGPS=1
[Advisor] language=24 gender=1 unit=0 time_format=1
voice=[List] buttons=0
[GPS] Found=com2:,57600,8N1,none
[Plugins] MioMore = \My Flash Disk\Program Files\MioCS\MioMoreShell.exe
Now my questions are:
-how can I get rid of the EULA/warning screen? the 2 lines added in spirit.ini show_warning_window=0 warning_on_wakeup=0 didn't work, even though I know they work on MioMap from non-Spirit models. -how get I get a exit button from MioMap? -how can I acces the settings of the device through the unlock? I searched for exe files, but there are none for adjusting screen brightness for example... -how can I connect to this device using activesync? -in MioPocket, stanby does not work, shut off does not work. -if MioPocket is on, USB conection to computer does not work (setting from mss storage to activesync makes no difference)
On a side note: do you know a player that works on WinCE6 devices? All seem to crash... they only like winCE 5, cannot play divx and mp4.
