Let me know if you fixed.
I did both format and unformat but 'Mio Device' didn't show up in both cases. In the unformat case, I could not recover the old firmware version as you indicated.
You mentioned to update the 'Portable Device' with the driver that comes with the recovery CD. I found one 'WCEUSBSH.INF' in the recovery CD, but windows 7 found it to be incomparable. Where can I find the USB driver?
BTW, I believe my C230 is a NA version. Does it matter if I used EU firmware? May be this is an issue. |

greenleaves, Possible ... if the flash memory is different may not be addressable as firmware (wince) expects ... WCEUSBSH.INF is the file ... but works only with the 'MioMap' versions of firmware ... the new ones (like MioMap2008) don't need this driver ... Sorry for your My Flash disk .. lost. If you find somewhere a NA version and download the SMFlash I can make the firmware upgrade ... |

g_alin, Sorry to hear that. My C230 was having sluggish response and that makes it impossible to use in navigation. That's why I ventured to update the firmware in the hope that may solve the problem even though I know before hand the EU firmware may be not compatible with the NA hardware. Now I can confirm that is case. I appreciate your help anyway. Thank you.
One more thought: 'My flash drive' is not essential so long as I can run the map program on the SD card. Now whenever the SD is in the slot, it always starts up with the blue upgrade screen. How can I get rid of the blue screen and boot directly from the SD card? |

I was using the same unlock SD to boot the gps but it went straight into the blue screen. The "Supermode" didn't show up and I could not choose the "UserMode" as before. The blue screen shows "Tilapia_UT_R06_0822 MLC 1C" and I have no idea what it is. Any clue? |

I noticed you changed "autostart" name to "autorun_ABC" but that didn't work either. The bluescreen still poped up. I used "goce" instead to get it booted up to the startup screen previously but not after the firmware upgrade.
What I did previously was with the upgrade SD card in the slot, turn ON power to boot up the SD. The startup screen showed up and allowed me to choose Upgrade and Superuser. After the firmware upgrade, I could not do it anymore.

Only the hardware reset power ON/OFF can turn on or off the GPS. When it is on, the USB connection screen pops up and the soft power on/off button is no more functioning. The GPS tries hard to boot from the flash drive no matter what you do. |

Hello g_alin,
Thanks for your answer to my question in http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=135820. If I have understood correctly, then I should read the posts here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?whichpage=1&TOPIC_ID=127723&.
I started it but can not read all 50 pages because English is in this crowd-consuming and difficult. But I've watched on YouTube the films. I have the PIN9 method, the method to touch all the pins, the method to drain the battery and tried to restart, but still without success. It is not the desired blue screen.
I have also searched for Mio Moov Spirit 505TV and my firmware R13.VT505.0310 and not found.
If I have understood you correctly, I should now search and download the same device with SMFlash the data. I hope to find someone who can make me (harryhilft).
Thanks and greetings passioner |

Question 1: what devices can be upgraded? Answer 1: (until now) this procedure was tested on Mio C220_NA; C320; C520_EEU; C520T_WEU Tested performed by: Mio C220_NA (me),Mio C250_EEU (tgg2k) , Mio C520_EEU (asgaard: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=111274&whichpage=5) C520T_WEU (krisvw: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=111274&whichpage=4), C320 (zeluis_cps: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=111274&whichpage=6), C520T_WEU (PeterMJ: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=111274&whichpage=6)
Question 2: how can I upgrade the firmware? Answer 2: There is a small utility that is able to activate the UPGRADE screen. This upgrade screen will provide you the possibility to upgrade two components: uboot and wince. http://www.4shared.com/file/237773940/67160c36/UPGRADE_MIO_09Mar10.html In this package you’ll find the documentation available to perform the upgrade. - Menu structure can be found in file menu.txt (UPGRADE_MIO_ddmmmyy.zip\SDCard\documents\menu.txt) - Procedure (how to upgrade) can be found in file read-me.txt (UPGRADE_MIO_ddmmmyy.zip\SDCard\documents\read-me.txt) WARNING: I DON'T RECOMMEND TO UPGRADE UBOOT. WARNING: IN SOME CASES (read read-me.txt carefully) ALL THE INFORMATION FROM “MY FLASH DISK” MAY BE LOST, DO A BACK-UP FIRST.
Question 3: How can I come back to my old firmware (if I don’t like this new firmware)? Answer 3: After you performed the upgrade is recommended to left the UPGRADE screen activated for a period of time (days, weeks) until are you 100% sure that your device is stable. After that you can disable the UPGRADE screen. The firmwares that I have (so far) are:

If you have a different firmware you need to back-up your wince. To do that, you need DiscRW utility. If your device is unlocked and you can run applications on your PNA, try to use this DiskRW software: http://www.4shared.com/file/134354901/9ef633/DiskRW.html instructions: 1.Start DiskRW 2.Select from combo-box (close to 'Store:') -> SMFlash 3.Press '...' button and select 'Storage Card' (where to save your SMFlash.img); If '...' doesn't work you can write (using any keyboard you have) the name of the SDCard folder of your PNA (ex: \Storage Card\, \SDMMC\ ...) 4.Press 'Read' button. A Hourglass will appear and it will take approx. 30 sec. If the above application doesn't work, you should contact me to (on this thread) to fins a solution. Because every device is different I can’t give you a DiskRW custom made for your model.
For wince 4.2: you can use also bkondisk.exe (http://hpcmonex.net/roms/bkondisk.zip). For more info check: http://www.gpspassion.com/FORUMSEN/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=82603&whichpage=2
Question 4: I lost 'My Flash Disk' can I recover it with this procedure? Answer 4: Yes. You have to use 'wince by USB (Format)' to format your 'My Flash Disk'. WARNING: ALL THE INFORMATION FROM “MY FLASH DISK” WILL BE LOST (and there is nothing you can do to save it).
Question 5: There is anything else that I should know? Answer 5: Yes. There are no warranties what so ever; so all you do is on your own risk. Anyway I can tell you that I uploaded on my GPS (C220_NA) many not compatible firmwares. I wouldn’t recommend you to do that until you really know what you are doing. If you check the firmware before and is using the same SMFlash memory area, like your device, (theoretically) there is no risk. But like I said: DON’T TRY THAT (unless you really know what you’re doing).
Those Q/A will cover most of the questions, but if you have other questions (or any advice) please let me know. When other firmwares will be available I will update this post.
Custom firmwares (usually ‘custom’ stands for ‘changed’ - aka ROM cooking). software need it to change a firmware: ROMMasterCE5 (v.1.9.9) - http://www.4shared.com/file/237775472/8f86f256/ROMMasterCE_ver199.html
1. This is based on ROM R08.3 (NA) and has the explorer (taskbar) added. (doesn't work with C250!) http://www.4shared.com/file/129470682/1fc8ff6d/C220_NA_ROM_R08_Desktop_1.html Known bugs: - There is a file 'desktop.ini' on every folder (from the GPS) – including Desktop. - The menu 'send to Desktop as a shortcut' is not working.
2. This is based on ROM R08.3 (NA) and has the explorer (taskbar) and all office components added. (doesn’t work with C250!) http://www.4shared.com/file/129470932/f760619b/C220_NA_ROM_R08_Desktop_2.html Known bugs: - There is a file 'desktop.ini' on every folder (from the GPS) – including Desktop. - The menu 'send to Desktop as a shortcut' is not working.
3. This is based on ROM R08.3 (NA) and has the explorer (taskbar) and all office components added. Has a Navigator.lnk shortcut from Desktop to \My Flash Disk\MioMap\Miomap\Miomap.exe. If you have, more than one, navigation software you can place a script there - using mortscript switch command; to be able to start any of those applications. Also previous version has the FSRAMPERCENT to small -> was increased to 1.5M (doesn’t work with C250!) http://www.4shared.com/file/129471186/a5564a94/C220_NA_ROM_R08_Desktop_3.html Known bugs: - There is a file 'desktop.ini' on every folder (from the GPS) – including Desktop. - The menu 'send to Desktop as a shortcut' is not working. - Taskbar is on top of the navigation software. FIX: Start \ Settings \ Taskbar and Start Menu -> CHECK Auto hide
With srelioskoz help we have a recovery method also for MOOV series :)

@g-alin:
sorry to ask a stupid question: The whole txt especially the mio moov section is kind confusing , at least to me:
first i have a Mio Moov 510 Europe:
Which of this software can i use to upgrade my mio moov 510 since my firmware is on the list, since you wrote at the beginning "IF YOU DONT SEE YOUR MIOs FIRMWARE DO NOT TRY WITH ANOTHER ONE" and then later you said in the Moov section "download this file and put it in your sd card (this is for mio moov 360 if you have another mio moov you must rename the folder)"?
2. MOOV360_EU (ROM_V1.00.0021), MOOV500_EU (ROM_V1.00.0004) or MOOV560_EU (ROM_T550R2.V1.00.0003). which one? sorry if i am reapeating myself.
Thanks in advance.

hi g_alin
today i got a phone call, i sent to service my friends moov 370, because i accidentally ruined appstartupsec.exe
they say the mobo is broken, usb and card reader too, they want to replace the motherboard for 129 eur. the dont even know that the appstartupsec initializes teh usb. lol so the mio service can not repair it with blue screen menu. they send me back the gps and i disassemble it and try to repair with your fw link.
the mio moo 735 tv is still there, there i moved the appstartupsec to another dir, replaced with my file, and its broken too. they will call me today what is with it. its 2 day old, so i think they give me a new one. (they just called me, they replace the mobo, they say its broken :) )
mio makes me laugh, they call themselves service/support etc.
now i'll search for a pin, dont know how to do but i'll try to get that boot menu, dont want to buy a new one to my friend. but if i fail i will.
any ideas ?
thanks joe |
