Need help, my nuvi 760 will only load to the loading map screen, will not load any farther. I have tried to reload, by turning off, right slide switch and hold centre of screen while plugging in usb, still only loads to loading map screen?

Anyone have an Idea???

Have you backed up the unit's files? If not, you might want to do so.

You can implement a hard reset by holding your finger on the lower left corner of the screen while powering the unit on. It sounds like this is the next logical step.

Good luck.

Anyway I'm not sure if master reset will help to Bpraim.

I've had two 760s do this. I sent the first to Garmin and got a refurb 760. I had multiple potoblems with that and the next refurb 760. The 3rd replacement worked great for about 2 weeks and I once again was stuck with the Loading Maps screen.

Nothing I tried would fix is. Could not turn on with the adapter connected, battery power or USB. Holding power switch, doing a full reset of user data,... Nothing helped.

Garmin finally had me send everything back and sent me a new 760. I've had the new one for about 3 or 4 weeks now with no problems.

I still have no idea what the cause was. The only clues I have are both times it happened when I put the 760 in the cradle in the car. The cradle was already plugged in for power. In at least one case, maybe both, there was a Web Favorite from MSN waiting to be loaded onto the GPS.

I spent a lot of time searching this and other forums and using Google. I couldn't find any information about others having a similar problem.

The reps at Garmin said they had not heard of it happening before either. Those answers seem to vary a lot depending on who you talk to though.

I don't know what they do at these locations but maybe if you call them directly there is one that can handle your repair.

My Unit just turned itself back on.I came back into the room and it was on and looded loaded up completely, but has lost installed maps, has has a huge lag time. Will not connect to USB, just freezes up on connection, Freaky.
I will try Garmin in Australia on Monday and see what they say. I also found a dealer here in Thailand, so will also touch bases with them.
Wish I could just reinstall all the programing from scratch. But USB will not connect to Computer.
Maybe my GPS is a women and have'n a bad week!!! wink wink!!!

When mine occasionally does that, I hold the power switch to the left for the 8 seconds it takes to reboot the unit and then turn it on again. Sometimes have to go thru that process a couple of times, but eventually it gets past the loading map screen.

The only time I've had the issue with freezing on the loading maps screen was after I started putting additional maps onto the SD card and somehow a portion of that maps ended up saved to the internal memory of my Nuvi, creating a duplication, and the Nuvi would not work as long as I had 2 copies of the same thing on the unit. If you have and SD card in try to use it without it.
If that doesn't work use your computer to look into the Nuvi's memory and see if you somehow got any duplication of your map in there. Any duplicate copy of ANY portion of a map will freeze it up.
Hope it helps.

D/Load and extract to a folder:

http://www.garmin.it/files/nuvi7xx%20missing%20software.zip

Then,

Turn off Nuvi 760.

Slide power button to 'lock' symbol.

Press and hold your finger in the middle of the screen.

Plug Usb cord into Nuvi. It will then turn on.

You then have about 20-30 seconds to drag the .reg file onto the .exe file in the folder you have downloaded.

Follow the instructions which will roll back your firmware to 2.9. Perform a soft reset. You can now use Garmin's 'web update' app to upgrade to the latest firmware.

This fixed my 760 which had the exact same problems.
