Once in boot loader menu, the Reset button is for moving the selection downward. Make sure you land on Update OS (with red text) before pressing the Power button. There is no prompt before any selection so be very careful. Once Update OS is performed, move the selection to Information and hold the Power button for 5 seconds and it will shutdown.

KhaKev,

By "Copy CECMD.exe to the root of your SD card and rename it to ToCopy.exe.", I was able to access more files inside the flash. Thanks.

I don't have any \MioAutoRun folder on the flash. The installation never really started, I think.

I checked all folders on the flash, there is no AutoDetect.exe file, the one file that could be similar is \Windows\AutoLaunch.exe, I have uploaded it here;

http://rapidshare.com/files/228589483/AutoLaunch.exe.html

Thanks for your help.

ky3099,

Maestro 5310's AutoLaunch.exe supports only ToCopy.exe. It does not seem it supports SD autorun. Sorry.

Here is what I found from your AutoLaunch.exe with a hex editor:

L.a.u.n.c.h. .C.o.p.y.T.o.o.l.!.!.!.!...........C.h.e.c.k. .%.s. .t.o. .R.u.n. .T.o.C.o.p.y...e.x.e.,. .
R.e.t.r.y. .%.d.........\.T.o.C.o.p.y...e.x.e...S.D.M.M.C.\.T.o.C.o.p.y...e.x.e.....S.D. .C.a.r.d. .f.o.l.d.e.r. .n.a.m.e. .i.s. .%.s.......
F.o.l.d.e.r.........C.a.n.n.o.t. .f.i.n.d. .S.D. .f.o.l.d.e.r. .n.a.m.e.!.!.!.!

Maybe it's burried in other .exe file in HDD such as mgnShell.exe or something. Upload those files if you want me to investigate further.

Meanwhile, you can try this procedure by Selsys1:

KhaKev,

There is no mgnShell.exe inside \Windows folder. I tried to copy the .exe files from the flash to SD card, but mostly not successful. It says either "Cannot access file", or CECMD.exe seems to have done something, but then nothing get copied to the SD Card. Here is a list of all the .exe files inside \Windows folder;

AutoLaunch.exe
device.exe
filesys.exe
GpsMC.exe
gwes.exe
IrDARmtCtrl_Daemon.exe
nk.exe
RegWinMsg.exe

In addition, I noticed that most other folders are empty;
\My Documents
\profiles\default
\program files
\Temp
\Windows\Desktop
\Windows\Programs
\Windows\Recent

They are all empty, does this sound right ?

Is there any other ways to retrieve the files ?

ky3099,

mgnShell.exe or similar should be on the HDD disk where the maps are. You can browse it from your PC. Just connect the unit with a supplied USB cable.

There is nothing wrong with CECMD.exe. You cannot copy system files that are running (in use). The other folders should be empty like most other PNA's. Selsys1 posted that Explorer (desktop) works on 5310. This is not the case with 4250.

Get_Memory_Win32.exe
mgnQCS.exe
mgnShell.exe
Navigator.exe

KahKev,

Would you please be more specific/detailed with your instructions? I've installed MP 2.0 r43 on Mio C230 and Mio c320 GPS units, and would like to be able to install it to my Magellan 4250. Following the instructions in the MP 2.0 Readme file did not work because Magellan's applications install anyway and override MioPocket.

You said:

Device AutoRun Options:

\SDMMC Card\GS399AutoRun.inf - (specify the path of the file to execute, syntax: open=anyfile.exe)
\SDMMC Card\ToCopy.exe - (rename anyfile.exe to ToCopy.exe, works only on hard reset - best use when restoring HDD if USB function isn't working)

and in your SD card instructions you said:

"3. In "MioPocket 2.0 Release ##" folder, rename Magellan_AutoRun.inf to GS399AutoRun.inf"

Questions:

Where do you find "Magellan_AutoRun.inf". It is not inside any MioPocket 2.0 folders as you indicated.
In which file do you specify a path?
The path of which file to execute, Magellan_AutoRun.inf, GS399AutoRun.inf?
Where do you place the line: open=anyfile.exe?
What takes the place of "anyfile.exe", Magallan_AutoRun.inf, GS399AutoRun.inf?

Mio C230, Mio C320
Win CE.Net 5, MioMap 3.3
MioPocket 3.0 R54

MioOhmy,

You should follow the MioPocket SD AutoRun Setup section. Device AutoRun Options tells you what autorun options the device offer.
Magellan_AutoRun.inf is bundled from R45 and higher only. For older Releases you can create it yourself and the file must name GS399AutoRun.inf. Inside this file you need to specify open=MioAutoRun.exe if you run MioPocket.

anyfile.exe means you can spefify any executable you wish to run besides MP. Such as CECMD.exe, MAP.exe or whatever...

KahKev,

Thanks for the new topic, Good idea! I have a 4250 with MioPocket and Igo8 running. So far, I'm installing new software the hard way, by removing the SD card and inserting it in the computer and then back to the 4250. I know that there is a better way to do it, using the USB connection but I'm not sure how. Please advice.

key3099,

I inspected (mgnQCS.exe, mgnShell.exe and Navigator.exe) but there is no sign of SD autorun option. Looks like Magellan removed this option on the 5310 model.

JayB,

If I understand it correctly that you want to run MP from the internal flash not from the SD card? If so, do these tricks:

1. Connect 4250 to the PC
2. Make a copy of everything from the internal flash drive to a safe place on your PC (including the maps)
3. Copy MP's Media and MioAutoRun folders to root of internal flash disk
4. Copy these files: MioAutoRun.exe, MioAutoRun.mscr, MortScript.exe to root of internal flash disk
5. Use Notepad and open \APP\Unit.xml and replace this section

<Application ID="176">
<FileName>Media.exe</FileName>
<Path>\HDD\App\</Path>
<Bitmap>32x32x16.bmp</Bitmap>
<Version>
<Major>1</Major>
<Minor>0</Minor>
<Internal>0</Internal>
<Build>0</Build>
</Version>
</Application>

with

<Application ID="176">
<FileName>MioAutoRun.exe</FileName>
<Path>\HDD\</Path>
<Bitmap>32x32x16.bmp</Bitmap>
<Version>
<Major>1</Major>
<Minor>0</Minor>
<Internal>0</Internal>
<Build>0</Build>
</Version>
</Application>

Open \APP\Startup.xml add this line

<Application ID="176" />

so it looks like this

<Shell>
<Application ID="151" />
<Application ID="152" />
<Application ID="153" Parameters="-l"/>
<Application ID="175" />
<Application ID="176" />
</Shell>

Save and close both files.

6. Use Safely Remove Hardware option to remove the mass storage device from Windows/PC then unplug the USB cable. The device should restart itself and install MP on its way up.

With this procedure the volume control within Mag's Map would work normally.

Another method is copying everything from the SDFree folder to APP folder and renaming the files from MioAutoRun* to Navigator* respectively but the volume control would not work. It always show Mute and you could not even change it. The reason is the volume apps is looking for the original Navigator.exe.

Optional: You can remove this line <Application ID="175" /> from Startup.xml. It will not launch Mag's Navigator on startup. If you wish to run Navigator from the MP Navigation page, use MioMap for instance and point it to \HDD\APP\Navigator.exe.

Khakev,

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. I switched to editing the unit.xml method. There is only a single Application ID="175" on my 5310. I simply changed the path pointing to MioAutoRun.exe on the SD card (and nothing else);

<Application ID="175">
<FileName>MioAutoRun.exe</FileName>
<Path>\ssdmmc\</Path>

MioPocket v2r45 will actually loads (after a few reboots). It seems MP is working okay (say Media Player, FileManCE). However, when I try to launch iGO8, the iGO8 screen flashes for about 1 second, and quits, going back to the MP menu. If I try to launch iGO8 again, I got an error saying that "An instance of iGO8 has not finish exiting yet .."

I thought once I am able to get the MP menu to show, I am all set with the unlock. When I try to launch iGO8, everything is hand off to the iGO8, right ? My copy of iGO8 on the SD card is good. It works fine on my other Mio Moov 310, 500 GPS.

I tried changing the SYS.txt parameters on the iGO8;
[debug]
cache=2048
reserve_memory=1500000

But it doesn't seem to help. Any idea ? Would you share your copy of SYS.txt ?

ky3099,

So you opted to run MP from SD. That's perfectly fine but if you need more space then running MP from the internal flash is a better option.
Your device (5310) supports SDHC so take advantages of that. You'll find it useful when you need to swap maps or testing new maps without restaring.

As for iGO issue, I used to have an Exception: 0xc0000005 issue and I fixed it by copying coredll.dll to iGO folder and it ran successfully. After the first run I moved coredll.dll out of place and the exception error is gone. Not sure why but hey it helped.

Doesn't seem to be your case but if you want to find out if iGO runs successfully without MP, Copy CECMD.exe to root of SD and rename it to ToCopy.exe and hard reset. Navigate to iGO folder and launch the program.

Note: iGO needs to initialize on startup so give it a minute or so.

Hi KhaKev, I'm experiencing a few minor issues with my 3250.

I'll post what dropped in the PM 2.0 group into your thread as you might have some answers or be experiencing similar issues.

I hope you don't mind.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

hello I've installed MP 2.0 on my Maestro 3250 GPS successfully using the SD-Free method. using the SD method it would install, then it'd seemingly try to run the navigator application again, then send an "open port" crash.

I bought the 3250 as the price in Canada was right, and I saw a few people posting success with MP for it. It does work but I've found there might be some limitations with this device.

The 1st one and I'm not sure if this is causing some of the problems or not, but the /windows and root folders not the 2gig built in flash are extremely limited in size. After a normal boot there is only 8k free. I'm not sure if all the files MP wants to install at boot time make it, or due to the lack of file space are missing. I've seen a few posts and applications on this forum that increase the size of the \ folder by increasing memory allocation. I have not tried this method or know if it's permanent allocation change or not. I know it works by expanding the amount of system ram used for the extracted system files from the rom.

Problem #2 is that I can't run freecaddie or intelligolf. I wanted to test MP and a AIO GPS for golf sadly :) I believe both applications use net framework and the files installed by default with this device are Wince 5.0 Core. I've noticed others on the forum are getting a similar crash with their wince 5.0 CORE devies. My specific details from the crash are: "Error FreeCaddie.exe Exception at Microsoft.AGL.common.MISC.HandleAr(PAL_ERROR ar) at and goes on and on. I tried to hexedit the .exe to change coredll to core2dll, but that didn't help.

I'm not sure if this issue is caused by the wince 5.0 core, or the lack of system folder space and files not able to be copied initially etc.
Most applications and games run for the most part.

The firmware on the Device is the initial, so I was considering flashing the latest Magellan firmware as it's a year or so newer, but don't have any high hopes this will help. I'd have to assume the newer core files in the rom won't be any better.

Let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions.

Thank you

bisch,

I think you're confusing between ROM and Internal Flash Disk. \Windows lives on ROM and that's the reason why you see it has a small capacity.
To confirm your Internal Flash Disk space, within MP navigate to Tools menu and launch Resources, under Storage tab you should see both used and free info.

Problem #1: I don't think it's storage or memory issue

Problem #2: I tried to install FreeCaddie on my 4250 but it keeps saying that there's not enough space when I still have 515 MB free on HDD and 330 MB on SD. I installed the same on my Sanyo 4370 and all went well. Btw, I installed it to \MioAutoRun\Progams\.
After this, I coppied the FreeCaddie folder to SD and attempted to run it on the Maestro 4250 and indeed I experienced the same error. I can launch the program on the Sanyo without any problem.
Used EXE Check on FreeCaddie.exe, it has a dependency of MSCOREE.DLL, I copied it from MioAutoRun\System\CE5 over FreeCaddie folder but still no joy.
The error seems to be related to .NET Compact Framework so I launched \MioAutoRun\Registry\NETCompactFramework.reg after this I have different result when launching FreeCaddie. The error is ".NET CF Initialization Error...". So definitely it's CF related.

Khakev,

How do you retrieve coredll.dll from the 5310's flash ?
- When I Copy CECMD.exe to root of SD and rename it to ToCopy.exe and hard reset
- and try to copy the coredll.dll file from the flash \Windows\coredll.dll
- I got "Cannot access file" error

When I Copy CECMD.exe to root of SD and rename it to ToCopy.exe and hard reset. Navigate to iGO folder and launch the program. I got the same problem, iGO8 loading screen comes up 1-2 sec, and then quits

ky3009,

You won't able to copy that from \Windows. Copy one from \MioAutoRun\System\CE5\coredl2.dll and rename it to coredll.dll. There are more in this forum you have to find the one that works.

So you have ruled out that MP is not the problem. It's iGO or the missing files. Use EXE Check and see if other dependency is missing. You will need to check against \Windows and \iGO folders.

If that still does not help, email me. I will give you something else to try.
-----------------------
Ok, back to AutoEvent topic: I have another idea and I think it might work on your 5310 since the device names are the same as 4250's.

Download AutoEvent_4250.zip

Launch AutoEvent_4250.exe and you should see it under Task's processes. Now, follow the MioPocket SD AutoRun Setup above and see if you can get it going.

If MP install starts when you insert the SD card, then add another entry in your Unit.xml and Startup.xml to call AutoEvent_4250.exe on startup.
