| Download "LinuxGarminImport" & unzip it, then rename it to Plugins (P must be a capital letter) & put it in sporttracks folder. It works fine for me. |

The original error message reported by gpsbabel was: gtc cannot open "/home/nuno/desktop/file.tcx" for write. Error was "no such file or directory"
But i did a file with that name and it can be read and write...
some trick?

Hello,
I'm trying to download data from my 301 forerunner on a Ubuntu 64 bit 10.04. Earlier I used TCX converter but it doesn't work under 64 bit system. GPS babel works, but I cant get a tcx file and use it together with mytourbook. If I modprobe garmin_gps and the run Mytourbook it crashes.
So now I tried garmin_forerunner_tools but get this problem the first time I started it.
lars@lars-desktop:~/data$ garmin_save_runs
Extracting data from Garmin Forerunner 301 Software Version 3.10
Files will be saved in '/home/lars/data'
garmin_read_records: failed to read Pid_Records packet
garmin_read_records2: failed to read Pid_Records packet
Toplevel data missing element 1 (laps)
Toplevel data missing element 2 (tracks) When I later tryes I only get
lars@lars-desktop:~/data$ garmin_save_runs
Extracting data from Garmin (null)
Files will be saved in '/home/lars/data'
Unable to extract any data!
Is it some problem with my GPS?/ computer or is it me?
Br,
Lars

Here is how I could instal Garmin Communicator Plugin in Ubuntu Lucid to connect my forerunner 305 to Garmin Connect site: 1- install Garmin Communicator Plugin for Linux, open a terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:andreas-diesner/garminplugin
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install garminplugin
2- Download & add "User Agent Switcher" Plugin to Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/59/
3- Configure "User Agent Switcher": save this page as XML file in your computer:(right click, save link as) http://www.andreas-diesner.de/garminplugin/useragentswitcher.xml then in firefox go to Tools menu-->Default user agent-->User agent switcher-->option-->Import saved xml file.
4- To connect forerunner 305 & upload workout data to Garmin Connect directly from gps: go to http://connect.garmin.com/ & sign in. then in firefox go to Tools menu--> Default user agent-->GarminPluginFake-->Firefox(winXp)

Hello Andreas,
Many many thanks for your superb plugin! It works most of the time but I am finding it always cuts off the final few hundred metres of my track when I load it to Garmin Connect. I tested it also on RideWithGPS (http://ridewithgps.com/) and it does the same there.
If it errors, I get "TypeError: this.plugin.StartWriteFitnessData is not a function".
I'm using an Edge 305, Firefox 3.6.10 and Ubuntu 10.04 |

A note for others, Andreas resolved the issues and the plugin now loads the complete track (the loss was due to the auto pause function on the Edge). I can report all is working well and I can load to Garmin Connect perfectly.
RideWithGPS works to, but not consistently. I have had to persevere with it. I have found that restarting the browser and then loading seems to be more stable, but it still can error. RwGPS is flakey though, and I have a few problems with it from time to time, so I suspect it's their plugin integration that's suspect here and not the plugin itself.
Thank you Andreas! I'm one step closer to ditching Virtual Box!! |

Thanks to the latest version of GPSBabel 1.4, uploading a course in tcx or gpx to Forerunner 305 works fine under Ubuntu Linux.
To install GPSBabel 1.4 in Ubuntu Linx http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/gpsbabel
Sending "file.gpx" in home directory as a cours in gpx, open a terminal:
gpsbabel -i gpx -f file.gpx -t -o garmin -F usb: Sending "file.tcx" in home directory as a cours in tcx, open a terminal:
gpsbabel -i gtrnctr -f file.tcx -t -o garmin -F usb:

Hi, I use gpsbabel and the script that is showned as the first topic of this thred. That creates my "file.tcx" that mytourbook always open up at start. So it works great! The only thing I need to do is calculate distancee and speed in mytourbook. But from now you can select several tracks at once an recalculate them at the same time so its no problem. But I asked one question to wolfgang at mytourbook regarding if you couldnt import the laps as markers in your tracks from tcx files also. And then he said that it should already work. So my questio is if and in that case how you write a gpsbabel syntax to save tcx files including tracks and laps.
