| I got a chance to use this at work for a few days. To say the least I was not that impressed. Entered a couple different profiles for my work truck, empty vs loaded, didn't seem to matter. It would still route you on non-truck routes and than after you were on it tell you this is a non-prefered route. It didn't have any bridge info that I saw but it did warn of sharp curves. I thought it was slow to calculate a route, much slower than my nuvi 350 that I currently use. I did like the blue-tooth, it seemed to work pretty well. And all the trucking info is handy, scale houses etc. I'm glad work bought it to try because if it were my money I'd be pretty bummed.... |

| Actually, we have one and like it very much. We are fulltime RV'ers and it comes in very handy since it considers many things just like truckers need. I have planned several routes with it in the truck mode and the auto mode and the truck mode makes a big difference usually on the total mileage as it will not route you down little roads or streets. I like the curve warnings, low clearance warnings, etc. The Bluetooth works great and lets you use your cell phone will only 1 finger. The lane assist works great there just aren't that many places that have it yet. We have a 680 that has served us well for the last 2 1/2 years but we will just keep it as a backup since we are really liking the 465T. |

Interesting feedback, it's certainly nice to be able to use it either as a car or truck GPS.
It makes sense that it would take longer to calculate a route in the truck mode as it needs to factor more attributes and constraints. Not sure why chopperguy's 465 is letting him use "on-prefered routes" and only warn him, maybe there is a setting somewhere to prevent these routes from being used altogether ?
I was able to play with the 465 at the Navteq Navivion event in Paris in September and was impressed by the number of custom settings. I was suprised to see it use the nuvi 255W hardware though, instead of the 765 as we originally thought. Not that it's very different inside the hood, but the external aspect is a bit different and it doesn't have the active cradle.
Interestingly it's the only nuvi to have the "trip" icon on the front page, as seen below with the submenu that also allows to skip a planned stop :

With it#8217;s launch this summer for the European model the truck data was limited to the UK. A free update would be launched at the end of 2009. With the new City Navigator Europe 2010.20 owners of a nüvi 465T also update their truck data. The truck data is now covered in 23 countries for main roads (highways).
The 23 countries include Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK.
For secondary roads the truck data is only available in Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Iceland and UK.
The nüvi 465T also includes free map updates until the end of next year (2010). |
garmin is the way. nuvi 300 > nuvi 350 > nuvi 660 > nuvi 255WT |

| I wish I would have had more time to figure everything out, not sure why it would calculate a route on non-preferred roads either. After you turned on a road it would than tell you it was a non-preferred road? I guess it left me with more questions. Having had a CDL since 1990 and been driving in Minnesota the entire time I've become familiar with restrictions on roads here. To me, the info the 465 had on the roads here didn't seem accurate. That being said it does have a lot of nice features, the car/truck mode was nice, bluetooth worked pretty well, lane assist worked well, trucking info is handy. Maybe I'm being to critical of it. |

I agree with you chopperguy. im very disappointed.im in Ontario Canada scale houses, truck stops along the 401 are not even listed. in my tomtom unit truck stops are listed under gas tab,not in the 465T

NO, you are not being to critical of it. i bought this unit to replace my dying tomtom expecting it to do the job my tomtom does. as a trucker i always side on side of caution and stay on major roads. common sense. This unit despite that im on a major road a warning comes up telling me im on a non-preferred road taking up the whole screen and only way to rid of it is to reach over and click close to get the map back. wow, shame on you garmin, garmin should have made it so a small flashing icon to the left of screen came up telling you that you are on a non-preffered road.
i do not recommend this unit.
im not sure yet if to keep it. or sell it. as for now ive copied the truck pictures and put them in the auto folder, and use the auto mode with a big truck icon hovering the road ,HAHAHA |

| I tried this truck GPS for the first time last night on a route. I kept trying to set it up for a truck route but it kept saying that it cant map the route, and no reason why or anything. I got on this truck route all the time, and i had to use the GPS in the car mode for it to map the run, but once i click on truck mode it doesnt map it, i dont understand why, any suggestions? |

| I have heard from Garmin staff that Navteq have updated the map of Sweden with truck data during the autumn of 2009. Has anyone tried the Nuvi 465T with 2010.30 in Sweden ? |

Hello bluzark,
Can you please point out where did you get that information? I can't find anything written on the web.
Kind Regards,

I couldn't wait to get this nuvi because I am an over-the-road trucker and the 465t's commercial truck and hazmat routing was something I knew I could use.
However, my plans of just following the route, secure in the knowledge that I am on a legal truck route have not yet been realized. The device DOES do a fair job of routing, but you still have to pay attention to where it is taking you. Of course, this is always true with any GPS, but driving an 18 wheeler somewhere that it is not supposed to be can get you in a lot of trouble. I suppose the problem is that the various political subdivisions do not send in truck route information in a timely manner and the database has no way of knowing where truck routes are. However, as long as you pay attention, it does a little better job of routing than my old 660 when it was set for trucks. At least it DOES know that you can't drive straight through Atlanta unless you take I-285. However, it did NOT know that the truck route is Loop 286 around Paris, TX and instead routed me straight through.
Two big disappointments are: 1. Speed limits shown are for CARS, not trucks, even when in truck mode. 2. Serious problem with the device's volume output. The ambient noise level in a truck at full speed is greater than that of a car, even with newer trucks. The thing is simply not loud enough. I cannot HEAR the driving announcements well enough to make them out. I called Garmin about this and they suggested I use the web updater. This had no effect. I have decided this is a design problem. I suppose they never actually tested it in a commercial truck. |

Hi slowjim,
There is a third party program by turbocc to adjust the volume in the voice files. However, I am not positive (but likely is) it is compatible with the 465T. You can find certainly try using a backup of the voice files.
The link is http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/TTSVoiceEditor
