This unlock package started life as the very first creation by Xtyler92 (Simple Unlock) and ended up looking alot more like MioPocket 2.0 (script-wise). Unlike MioPocket 2.0, which caters for almost every person & every GPS navigation unit on the market by including a large number of programs and scripts, MioPocket Lite is geared towards the person who wants their GPS unit unlocked and only the bare minimum of programs included. In other words, MioPocket Lite is a minimalist approach to unlocking Mio C series GPS navigation units and is more of a starting platform for people to configure their unlock package to suit their own needs.
I've only configured MioPocket Lite to fully support Mio C320, C520 & C720 navigation units but it may work on other Mio (Moov) & NavMan units with 480x272 resolution.
The main features of MioPocket Lite are:
1. MioPocket Lite can be installed either as an SD-Card installation (runs from the SD card), SD-Free (runs from the flash drive) or SD-WiFi (runs from the SD card but WiFi related files are transferred to the flash drive to facilitate the use of WiFi SD cards). MioPocket Lite doesn't rename any files on your GPS which means a hard-reset will put your GPS back to factory specs.
2. MioPocket Lite supports the use of SD WiFi cards by transferring the necessary system files to your internal flash drive so you can remove the SD card that MioPocket Lite is installed on. These system files are only installed to your flash drive if you indicate during configuration that you will be using an SD WiFi card.
3. There is no need to manually transfer the correct SD WiFi registry file to the custom registry folder as this is done during the configuration process when installing MioPocket Lite.
4. If you perform a hard-reset and re-install MioPocket Lite and opt not to use an SD WiFi card, MioPocket Lite will automatically delete any system files transferred to your internal flash drive & the custom registry folder from a previous installation.
5. Internet Explorer, Opera & the nPOPuk email client are automatically transferred to your internal flash drive if you indicate that you intend using an SD WiFi card during the installion/configuration process.
6. The toolbar at the bottom of the MioPocket Lite page gives you access to features & applications including all the standard applications of the Mio menu, common settings utilities like Mio settings, Control Panel, Regedit, Windows Explorer etc., and a portal to Windows CE for people who either prefer a hands-on approach with the operating system or who will be using an SD WiFi card.
7. Windows CE's standard colours, wallpaper & startup sound have been customized for a more aesthetically pleasing experience. The startup sound is set to Windows Vista by default but XP's startup sound is also included. Additional wallpapers are also included.
8. There are a small number of other programs and utilities including WordPad, HPC Media Player, Calc98 and a dozen other small utilities accessed via the Windows CE start menu.
9. MioPocket Lite now supports add-on modules which enhances MioPocket Lite by giving it a new look (skin) and additional utilities & games. You can download these modules seperately and install them either before or after MioPocket Lite has been installed.
Feel free to experiment with MioPocket Lite and be sure to post back if you have something interesting to share or have a problem. You can download MioPocket Lite using the link in my signature.
Here are some screenshots of MioPocket Lite & add-on modules. Click the thumbnails to enlarge the image.

| Pictures please... lol. I am curious, not so much about the WIFI stuff, but about how you included a startup sound. I wish you didn't upload it to rapidshare though, sooo sloowww. I think it's funny you keep using my name and unlock as a comparison point, I am flattered, but you don't have to do that. You are doing what I have always said people should do, which is customizing an unlock to best meet your needs and visual appeal. You are providing (IMO) a service by doing your work and by providing an option to others that may find my unlock to simple and lacking in stuff people might want (like WIFI) support and some other apps... and for people that may not want everything or need everything that comes with miopocket. I respect that and think it's great that people have these options. It saves me from incorperating things like WIFI support into my unlock, or Osprey from putting out a smaller more limited in content version of miopocket. So be proud of your work and know that in my eyes it has a place to stand on it's own without a need to compare it to or even give credit to my original unlock as an inspiration (even though I do enjoy the compliment). If you wanted to, you should look at the added skin I made for the V3 version of my unlock (about the middle of my homepage). I personally use that skin myself. If you wanted to, you could use that skin with your unlock (like as an optional download as an optional replacement skin). I could make the buttons for WIFI or for any other applications you might have in MPLite. I really like that skin, but it would be cool to see it included in another unlock. Its the one under the green skin on my page. Let me know and I'd be more than willing to work with you on it. You can download it and try it out on your computer using the systeminfo32.exe and let me know if it is something you are interested in. It would be simple to adopt with some minor changes to the command lines and the addition of he shortcuts to the taskbar, and maybe an additional button or two. That or any other skin that might interest you. I put a lot of time into making them and would love to see them get used in ant compacity not just with the Simple Unlock. So let me know, you can take any of them and adopt them for your unlock.... really I encourage it. Like I said, I put a lot of time into them and would be flattered if you wanted to use them. Also, put up a website!!! This way people will be able to get more info on your unlock, see some screen shots, and whatnot. I know I still get more than 400 hits day and I see links to my website popping up in tons of forums... not just GPS forums, but places like redflag, fatwallet, and countless other sales forums. I even see some mio's selling at ebay with links to my website in the product description. I like your work, now you just need to find a way for more people to access it. |

Hi xtyler92,
Thanks for your kind words and i'll definately look at integrating some other skins into my unlock. I mentioned you and your unlock because 3 days ago, i literally started with your first unlock and started pulling it to pieces. I got rid of the scp scripts, incorporated my own skin, added some scripts "borrowed" from MioPocket 2.0 and wrote my own scripts to change the appearance of Windows CE and added WiFi support etc. Finally, i added a configuration phase for the installation and some other aesthetics related stuff.
So it really did start with your unlock and i feel i need to give credit where it's due. This also includes Osprey, TroNik and all the other contributors that put MioPocket 2.0 together.
Cheers,

@Kato250 Just wondering, but if this is a SD unlock, how are you supposed to use an SD Wifi Card with it? |

Hi mathwiz314,
Even though MioPocket Lite is primarily an SD based unlock, you can still use a WiFi SD card with it. All the files necessary to support WiFi are transferred to the internal flash drive including Internet Explorer & nPOPuk email client.
When you want to use WiFi, just click on the WinCE icon to access Windows CE and you're good to go. Shortcuts to Internet Explorer & nPOPuk are automatically transferred to the desktop if you indicate during configuration that you'll be using an SD WiFi card.
You don't have to drop into Windows CE to use WiFi, it's just that most of MioPocket Lite's shortcut icons won't work without the proper SD card as they point to scripts installed on the SD card. The Windows CE portal, on the other hand, has modified shortcuts to the flash drive.
Cheers,

| I like it!! I also like that you incorperated the option screens instead of having things just go from an icon. I find that to be really important, especially if someone accidentally hits an icon. Very cool. I see though you are still using icons and text. I found that to be a lot more work and have switched to .bmp images since it gives me a lot more creative freedom, as well as saves me the effort of aligning the text under the icon... much less restarts on my device checking to see if everything lines up. That and I can just type the text and line it up using my muse on the bitmap image. Since I started going that route I will never change back, and you get the added bonus of the bitmap images being smaller in size in terms of the size of the file. Add that to less typing in the .ini files and it's a huge bonus. I still get my images from various icon websites, I just save then as .png images instead of .ico images and then just copy and paste them to whatever base button I create. I do like the way your unlock looks though. Very clean and classy. I might have spoke too soon with my suggestion to use some of my skins to add to your unlock, although the offer is still there. I like making skins more than getting thing to run on my device and would be honored if anyone wanted to use them within their unlock, or modify them as an optional skin for their unlock. My main focus has been to get away from the PDA windows look and more into a PNA look, with bigger buttons and easier access. I am really impressed with you unlock though, not only in terms of looks, but also with functionality. I also still admire your use of the taskbar. I just could never bring myself to use it as it was intended. In fact, I went the opposite approach and have spent more time trying to eliminate it than to use it. Part of me has always regretted going with that approach, since obviously based on your usage it proves to be a very handy tool. Great work again, and consider putting up a website!!! I would love to add a link to it on my homepage, especially since I won't be doing much more work with the Simple Unlock in the future. I have a lot of users that will be looking for something new once I am done and since you went back to a SD unlock, I know they will be interested.... just be warned, my users are always hungry for new looks (hence the many skins and versions of the Simple Unlock) so they will keep you busy. |

Thanks again, xtyler92.
I have noticed how easy it would be using bitmap images instead of icons & text ever since i looked at Stopword's skin. I haven't got around to changing my skin yet as i will most likely source new images for the icons as well. The skin in MioPocket Lite is still, basically, the same one i used in the "MioPocket Lite Skin" series. I'll look towards releasing an update soon that will make MioPocket Lite look even nicer.
Your followers are more than welcome to call on me for new solutions. In fact, you (and anyone else for that matter) are welcome to use my unlock as a platform to build your own unlock. The way i see it, 'Simple Unlock', 'MioPocket Lite' & 'MioPocket 2.0' are all open-source which means anyone can share or modify them or use parts of them for their own creation.
The only restriction i subscribe to is that i will never release a new version of MioPocket 2.0 or Simple Unlock as those trademarks belong to the authors. I've noticed that Osprey has commissioned other people to release new versions of MioPocket 2.0 but that would have been with his consent.
Cheers,

| In the coming month I am done with the Simple Unlock, so if you want to take it over by all means. You have a really good grasp of all this... even more than me. So don't be scared to take it over, build upon it, etc. Again, no need to even mention the name, or give me credit. I just think it would be cool to see some of my work included in something else (like the skins). I in no way even want ant credit, it would just be cool to be driving down the road and to look into someones car and see something I was a part of running on their device. Ha, my name is Justin and yet people always call me tyler... so credit means nothing to me. For me it was always about helping people and trying to meet the individual needs of the user (not so much trying to get one product to meet everyone's needs) So that is what I spent the last year and a half doing, not so much improving upon the unlock itself, but adding and taking away stuff based on the individual. I must have over 100 different versions of the Simple Unlock floating around, each version a little altered based on the requst of the individual. What is funny is when I see a version pop up in another forum where someone else calls themself the author. I have had that happen twice, where someone slightly altered a version I put together for an individual and called it their own. It doesn't bother me though, since without SkyLights original unlock I wouldn't have had a guide when putting together the Simple Unlock... that and my goal all along was to just provide a base so people could alter it as they pleased, hence my Simple Unlock Mods page. Unfortunately, I found myself doing most of the alterations myself for people which was not my goal. So feel free to use anything I have done, bmp images, .ini files, programs, etc and do with it as you wish, no need to ask for permission or give ant credit... I would more appreciate it being used in some form than just sitting on my website since I won't be working on it any longer. |

HELP PLEASE! :-) I am in Australia and have the Mio C520. Just yesterday I received the new MioMaps 2008 + new Mio Software and New Firmware. Stupidly I plugged it straight into my computer and ruined my C520. The new software sucks and the new maps look horrible, I have lost so much functionality!! I called Mio and they are telling me the only thing I can do is send it back to them and they will downgrade the firmware and put me back on the 2006 maps because the 2008 maps are not compatible.... So I turn to the internet and look for a hack, I have downloaded all the simple hacks from here and followed all the instructions but nothing is working? I'm thinking because I have the updated firmware and these hacks have been blocked out... Can anyone help me please? On My C520 it's telling me I have: Rom Version: C520AUS.V1.9965.0044 App Package: R1.0.07.1117
Thankyou in Advance :-) |

Kato, this is the skin I was talking about. It's the one I personally use. If you have time take a look at it. You can view it on your computer using systeminfo32.exe

| No problem, take a look at it and let me know what you think. It's not an entire unlock, just a skin folder for an unlock. |

MioPocket Lite has now been updated to version 3.0
1. The most noticable difference is the user interface which has a much brighter and cleaner look than the last one. I can recommend that turning the backlight down to 2 will make it much easier on the eye and will save you some battery life too.
2. I've configured Opera to be transferred to the flash drive along with Internet Explorer & nPOPuk if the user indicates they will be using an SD WiFi card. This gives the user a choice of browser.
3. The Windows CE wallpaper & startup sound has been changed to Windows Vista to reflect the more modern appearance. Windows XP wallpapers and startup sound are still included.
4. I've also fixed some issues with the taskbar still being visible when launching MioMap from WinCE and did some other alterations relating to aesthetics.
The opening post has been updated with new screenshots and download link.
Thanks,

Hi Kato250
Looks good. I played around with your lite versions on my Moov 360 with some success. I tried to run this on my Moov for interest's sake more than anything else, and the Moov went into an endless boot cycle. All I got was the screen asking if I was going to use an SD WiFi, but before I could hit the X, it would reboot again.
Will you be making any changes that might work on the Moov?
Thanks for the good stuff so far.
Cheers
