Just got off the phone with tech support... apparently the problem with 2009.1 [ed - first new maps under the "nuMaps Lifetime" program) they thought they fixed with 2009.11 just moved to another part of the map. Expect a 2009.12 soonish. (They didn't give me a timeline... 'course, I didn't ask.)

The problem I'm seeing is the shading for areas like airports is getting drawn on top of the road map instead of underneath, so you can't see the roads in these areas. Turning off the 3D map data works around this... but then you don't see the shading at all.

If you haven't installed 2009.11 yet, I'd wait. If you have... check our your friendly neighborhood airport or university... you might want to disable the 3D data.

It's strange, but the new maps have my Nuvi 760 getting to the "AGREE" screen in about 10 - 12 seconds....this is much faster than before. I don't know if something's not quite right with this week-old unit...many times it would just hang at the "loading maps" screen and never progress beyond. I could move the power switch to Off and then to On, and the unit would go immediately to the "Where to" screen...almost like it was getting stuck in the standby mode. This problem seems to be completely cleared up now :) I'm still on version 4.50.

Thanks for reposting here, I clarified the title a bit but can you give details on where the different version numbers are coming from 2009.1, 2009.11 ?

Until this new update the maps were called CN NT 2009.

I'd expect the next update, 2009.2, to be available in a quarter under nuMaps Lifetime, unless there is a major but that needs to get fixed. What you mention seems to qualify !

If you look at the map info on the device, this update shows up as 2009.11 which apparently is a bug fix on 2009.1 which never actually made it out. According to the tech, they will probably release a 2009.12 to fix this issue.

I'd expect 2009.12 to be free to anyone who got 2009.11, and to be out any time now.
I'd expect 2009.2 to be out next quarter for those who bought lifetime or want to buy it as a single update.

I see, looks like they're building a headache for themselves and for their servers...it seems proper beta testing would have helped!

This is quite a contrast to the previous map upgrade policy, you know, the one which rolled out so smoothly and logically ...

... oh, never mind.

I just turned my nuvi on and it told me the maps 2009.11 were more than a year old and need updating.

Then it started applying a GPS firmware update, which seems to be triggering every 30 seconds or so now.

I think I might have bought a lemon...

What's your GPS again ? 760 ? My 255 has been rebooting itself every 30 seconds since I updated it to the latest software. Best to repost in the topic dedicated to your GPS, but you can try renaming any .gcd file you find to .xyz.

I was gonna start a thread, but a reboot fixed it so it'd be a very short thread.

I have a 755t. It wasn't rebooting, though... it just kept showing a firmware update with 1% complete, then it'd jump to the firmware update finished screen... dismiss that and it was back where it was, only to do it again within a minute.

No Need To Quote Message Directly Above - Thanks - GPSpassion Team

Same thing happened to my 765t the morning I got the message that my map was over a year old and I should check the Garmin website for an update. A hard reboot solved the problem as well.

Seems the problem is with newly updated CN North America NT 2009.11 *3D map* for the 7x5 units:

When enabled, the City Navigator *detailed map* data is fragmented/blank in MANY areas in Southern California regardless of zoom and map detail settings. Issue can be seen in the screen shots attached. Coordinates of location in screen shot are: N33 21.335
W117 02.116

Disabling the 3D map from the GPS *corrects* the issue.
Reverting to the previous version of the 3D map *corrects* the issue.
Reverting to CN NA NT 2009 (not the .11 version) does *NOT* correct the issue.
A hard reset (Clear all user data) does *NOT* correct the issue.

**Edit: seems some parks & Indian reservations are the sections that are getting blanked out.

Looks like sloppy coding is becoming the norm for Garmin & now even includes the map data

Garmin's response:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I apologize for that inconvenience. There is a fix in the process, and it should be ready by the next quarterly update."

I guess that means if you have CN NA NT 2009, & you update to CN NA NT 2009.11 with your free update guarantee & then it expires, you'll be stuck with bad maps if you don't buy their fix. Does Garmin ever update their errors for free?

@ rocktman:

The wording of Garmin's reply to lacibaci suggests the fix will be free, but does not guarantee it.

If by "update their errors" you mean Garmin's own glitches, such as OS and firmware, they have never charged for these.

If you mean map updates, the errors are usually the responsibility of the map vendor and you are correct, they normally do not get fixed until the next update, which is not free except under special circumstances (nuMaps, Lifetime, etc.) which have nothing to with error fixes.
