I found a 2008 on clearance for about $35 and was wondering should I pick it up and update mine from 2006 to 2008. I'm NOT having any problems with the 2006 but I don't know if there are any more added features that folks really like in the 2008.
thanks

I really wish they'd put their updates to maps online, not for the purposing of routing, etc. Just to see if new roads appear. I don't want to buy until they catch up on some 5 year old roads that don't yet show. I'm not sure about that price, I was cruising ebay for the non-gps version last year and it seemed like the pricing started pretty low.

Hi guys

* mocars2 - $35 seems like a lot of money for 2008 version (unless it also includes the GPS unit)

* bwhite - they actually did put their updated version on-line, so you can see if you like the map data and the features. There's a 60-day free trial of the new 2009 version at microsoft.com/streets

Thanx for the info, I just wanted to browse the maps without installing over what I already have to find out I don't need the new version.

Did 2008 have any great advantages over 2006?

Yup, that is the bottomline right there? are the maps updated in places I care about and are any features I use (or may use) added or fixed.

A lot of GPS-related functionality has changed between v.2006 and the current v.2009. You'd have to Google for reviews of 2007, 2008 and 2009 versions to find all the details, but just going by my memory: direction prompts now include the pronunciation of street names, automatic route recalculation if you detour, 3D, etc.

Download the 60-day demo to see it for yourself. Don't uninstall your 2006 version. Both versions can co-exist on your computer.

I don't use it for gps'ing, but I do want current maps so it sounds like there isn't much there for me.

If you do want current maps, then version 2009 would give you three year fresher map data.

Yeah, I know that is the theory Marv but some of the streets I'm seeing not correct or not there are not new, I'd like to know that they finally are on the '09 disk before I opt for it only to be disappointed again.

Navigable maps lag behind printed maps by about two to three years.
