Transystem have just launched the iBlue 747A+ based on the new MTK v2 (MTK 3329) GPS chipset rated at -165dBm and previously used on the Qstarz Nano BT-Q1300 datalogger.
While the i747A+ uses the solid design that we discovered in 2006 on the iBlue 737 it is the first GPS datalogger to offer AGPS assistance for faster GPS acquisition. It is of the Internet AGPS variety with a file good for five days being downloaded over the internet and then uploaded to the device. This should be especially useful for a datalogger that tends to get placed in difficult areas like backpack pockets.
The iBlue 747A+ is already available at Semsons for $80 with 10% off for GpsPasSion Club members and a test unit should soon be heading out to the "GpsPasSion Labs" so stay tuned for some detailed performance testing in the field.

Here is the manual for the 747A+ : >> Link to PDF << (817Kb)
It shows how the AGPS data gets uploaded to the device. I also found out that it is valid for 5 days. Based on the Nano's excellent TTFF in spite of its tiny antenna, the 747+ with its normal patch antenna and AGPS should show great performance for the morning fix! |

I’m using the 747A+ in everyday use over a week now – mostly as a pedestrian and in metallic coated windows trains. Earlier I was using SiRF III Garmin 10X and MTK 737 (my preference). Without measuring the performance exactly, up to now, in challenging areas those GPS’s looks pretty old against the 747A+. Beside the higher sensitivity, also in pedestrian use, it works perfect for me now. Updating AGPS data worked well, but at the last few days no new data were available any more. Regards Pietsch

Delivery of my test unit got delayed so can't say for sure, but it's possible the application won't let you update the data if it's still valid, good for 5 (or 7) days it seems. It does degrade over time so it's better to be able to use update it when you can connect to a PC. It only helps for a warm fix (typically after 4 hours with the receiver turned off and restarting in the same place), see details in Internet AGPS - InstantFix / Skytraq / gpsOneXTRA.
Why do you say they "looks pretty old" ? Did you record tracks to compare the performance? |

The GpsView application has a query button to get the actual valid time left out. It says 0 days 0 hours. During the first few days I could update it to 5 days and ? hours again. But now, after update it stays on 0 days..
Yes with the 747A+, I’ve recorded tracks 24 hours a day (in 5 sec. interval, at home I charge it onto a re-radiation antenna:-).I did seldom record the tracks with the other GPS at the same time, but I recorded tracks almost any time when I’m leaving home (for work, hike, drive or what else) for over a year now. I believe I can reasonable “see” what I can expect - especially in known buildings (with up to now no reception at all) or in well known narrow streets. I know, the satellite constellations are always different to get a serious Comparison.

Ok, would still be nice if you could share some tracks even if they weren't done simultaneoulsy, which is the ideal type of comparison of course.
There seems to be something wrong with the AGPS, you might want to drop Transystem a line. |

I made a small application to read the gps position and translate it to a non standard but small data size on my phone to send the track part every minute home over the gsm net. Unfortunately I made no back conversation since I directly use the special format to display the track and current location at home when I’m on the way. Maybe you can recommend me a useful application for windows mobile 6 to record a common format? I would go for a walk with two pda’s and e.g. garmin 10X and 747A+.
I will ask Transystem if there is a known issue about updated AGPS data.

GpsPasSion, thanks for the tip writing to Transystem.I got an answer about the issue of downloading AGPS data. They sent me a new GpsView version (2.0.10), with that, I get fresh data again. I could not install an application to collect nmea data on my HTC Diamond and Touch Dual yet (I had family work to do :-), but I will do it as soon as possible. Pietsch |

Good to hear, have they put it on their website too? If not you can upload it to the server so others can use it too, see this method to upload.
Still haven't received the 747A+, but it's cousin the Qstarz Q1000X just came in so I'll start another topic about it. |

I have both iblue747 (for a year) and iblue 747a+ (received today from semsons) Unfortunately I have some problems using my iblue 747a+ When I start GpsView application (either GpsView v2.0.8.exe on CD or GpsView v2.0.10.exe downloaded from their website) I choose COM7 (my COM port), speed 115200, press On and... see no data from GPS device. When I switch to "Setup" tab - and press Query button (either in AGPS section or in Version), I also see no answer.
I use bt747 free software for a while with my iblue747, and with this new iblue747a+ it shows: FlashInfo:1C20161C (EON,4MB) Model:0001 (iBlue747a+) Firmware:AXN_1.0-B_1.3_C01 (TSI_747A+) Logger S/W: V1.39
I wonder how can I fix that, does anyone know?

It sounds like the only option for using this with a Mac would be the BT747?
But since it's a new product, BT747 may not fully support all of the features yet? |

Apart from the AGPS feature, it is fully supported by BT747 as far as I can tell.
As a side note, the 747A+ no longer appears on the Transystem site, probably because Qstarz have released the Q1000X...
@iks - I think I'm seeing the same problem on my 747A+ as well as the Qstarz Q1000X (clone of 747A+), nothing with GpsView v2.0.8.exe and QstarzGpsView v1.2.14. connects but no data comes through as seen below, no problem getting data with other programs though, like VisualGPS, maybe Pietsch can share the new utility they sent him.

Thanks, good to see they still have everything there, although the 747A+ is no longer linked from the front page. Still no go though, I wonder if there isn't a problem with the drivers, I'll see if upgrading to the latest ones helps.
UPDATED : nope still nothing on that screen only the "Fix time" in the bottom that shows seconds, really odd, or could it be an issue with the USB cable? Are thy using a specific on? I'm using a standard one and don't have the one that shipped with the unit handy. |

Hi
I tried this GPSView version and I confirm that it has problems. It does not handle the input buffer correctly and the communication stalls on WinXP. I found a workaround: disable all NMEA Output Settings (which you'll have to do using another application than GPSView). That way the serial buffer does not get filled with anything (but your device does not output any NMEA data).
As far as support fo AGPS in BT747 is concerned. I'll need two things for that: 1) AGPS data that I can get in a legal way. I know how I could do so 'illegally' - so that is out the of the question. 2) Know the protocol to transfer this data to the device.
I've written a message to Transystem to request them an official access to their ftp site for the data and also for information regarding the protocol.
