Hmmm. How come the update isn't available from Magellan yet? Is autonav 2000 doing their own software? Will Magellan offer the same update to their customers gratus? |

Anyone know how we are going to apply the update since we have no wires? |

Has anyone talked to Autonav2000 about this? I sent them an e-mail, but haven't received a response.

I'm fortunate enough to live near Auto-Nav, and I've gotten several GPS units from them.
The guy who owns the place is a total enthusiast...he's really INTO the products. While you might find a better price somewhere else, these guys are a complete pleasure to deal with, and it's satisfying (for me, anyway) to support a local business where the people really care and try to do a good job. They consistently have the best advance reliable information on new firmware, upcoming products, etc. And the attitude of "Hey, after you've had the thing for a week and gotten a feel for it, come back by and I'll show you a few features that aren't in the manual..." You don't get that at Best Buy. I'm not affiliated with them, just a very happy customer.
That said, no they don't write their own firmware! They've probably just gotten new stock of the 700's that has it loaded.
Once Magellan makes the firwmare generally available for download, the cable you'll need is a standard mini-USB cable. It's the same cable that almost certainly came with your digital camera; if you don't have one, surely you know someone who does who'd let you borrow one.

Here's the response I received from Auto Nav 2000 Plus:
"Auto Nav provides FREE firmware updates for our Magellan customers. We perform validation and beta testing for Magellan and, in doing so, we are offered the opportunity by Magellan to offer this new firmware for our customers prior to Magellan posting it on the web for updates.
"Here is a link to our website that shows the features the new 3.44 firmware includes: http://www.autonav2000.com/Products/RoadMateFirmware.htm
"Auto Nav pride itself as a service plus GPS organization. We offer our customers more then just a simple low price and a box, we offer expert support and latest firmware updates FREE to differentiate ourselves from our competitors.
"Did you purchased your system from Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc? If you did, simply send your MRM 700 system with a copy of our receipt, and we will be happy to update and return your system to you within 24 hours of receiving your system." [Note: I have edited this slightly to clean up some grammar and spelling errors.]
From this, it is hard to tell whether the firmware version being offered by Auto Nav is beta or final. It is also hard to tell whether this will be a free upgrade or available from Magellan at some cost, and whether it can be installed by the user or only by a service center.
In any event, for those of us who did not purchase from Auto Nav, it looks like we'll have to wait (as hard as that is, given the described feature set) for Magellan to post the update.

| Thanks for your post. Since Magellan offered the previous firmware updates for free on the net, I certainly hope they will offer the newest one that way also. It would be low rent for them to charge for fixing some of the inadequacies of their existing software, in view of the expense of purchasing the product. |

According to the tech I spoke with this morning (he didn't know anything, but was good enough to find out and call me back,) the upgrade will be available within a week or two on their site.

Any word on a similar update for the 500-series? I believe 700-series patches aren't compatible with the 500's and visa-versa....
(Needless to say, I just got the 500+ a month ago and am dieing for the update already.)

| FWIW: On one of the screen snaps in the ref manual - it shows the version number as 4.5.0.2P. |

| The reference manual that came with my 500 (purchased with 3.14) has the same screen snap! Shows 4.5.0.2P - looks like they continue to re-use a picture...interesting number scheme though! |

If you look at the snaps though (at least those for the POIs), they are now showing the POI icons on screen(!) You'll also notice that [finally] the address book is sorted; it refers to the IR-port availability via IrDA.
Still hoping for news on the 3.44 patch for MRM 500+....
