I was looking up the info about new maps, and there a link once you login to navigon.com that say 1.2 will be out April 30th and include a free map update. I haven't seen anything posted about it, so here is the info (if its been posted elsewhere, I'm sorry and just delete this)

2100 max/2120 max users should note that your devices come with the latest and greatest map and software available. We wil notify you via newsletter when new software or maps are available for your device. Better yet, sign up for our NAVIGON newsletter below.

| After reading the last couple pages of the v1.1 thread I see the information. I notice that people are having different dates for the release of the update. I have the 7100 and its saying April 30th, do people with the 5100/2100 still have different launch dates? |

I have a 5100 and 2100 registered at Navigon. The 5100 says the update will be available April 17th. The 2100 says April 22nd.
Amazon has the Navigon Map Update service (3 years) for $64.51. Tempted to order but want to see how the 1.2 update works. |

I think on the Navigon site it says the FreshMaps won't be available until July. You can probably "purchase" the card now, but won't be able to activate it. If you can activate it, there probably won't be any maps available to download. The 1.2 update is including a free map though. Also, buy.com has it for $59.99 and free shipping |

| So you actually have to buy a card with a code? Can't they just sell the code itself on their website? |

I am really looking forward to perfectly working routes. The XML tweaks are very close already. The biggest problem is that there are map errors and some roads are not in the correct speed class, at least compared to Google.
I hope the user interface does not change to much, or only gets faster. I personally like the auto fill when typing part of a name. Having only valid letters available is a plus if they add it but I won't like it as the only option.
With a free map upgrade, this would also be a perfect time for Navigon to completely rewrite the software and the ROM to add some kind of map protection. I really don't care as long as it works well. |

I don't care for map protection. There were previous discussions on whether Navigon can add protection. And I think with a full scale upgrade such as this (software, map, ect.) is the perfect time to do it. Otherwise I don't think it will happen. |

The 5100 update is LIVE and am downloading it as I type this. File size is 1.73 GB (glad I've got a cable connection1).
Here's the extract that comes with it. Not sure what to make of the "recomplied map" statement. Sounds like it's the same old map, just recompressed, and not an "up to date" map.
Overview This incremental software update includes: • Improved routing algorithms to get you to your destination easier and faster o Better handling of HOV and carpool lanes to exclude restricted lanes for normal routing o Improved logic to reduce instances of circular routes, unexpected highway exits, excessive/unnecessary turns and more • Updated ZAGAT POI data • Updated user interface o New highway shields for Canadian highways o Improved performance when navigating between screens o Simplified main screen, larger state selection buttons, revised text strings, and better recognizable menu icons o Improved ZAGAT POI screens make it easier to find your top rated destination o Street names for 3D maps turned on by default • Revised voice prompts for highway entrance and exit ramps • Fixes for ETA issues o Proper handling of Leap Year and Daylight Saving Time to show correct Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) times • Recompiled map

Isn't it a little early? I though it would be released on the 17'th?
Anyway, can you confirm if the performance improves and how the interface changed? Also, can you test some routes from the forum or post the route preference factors from the applicationsettings file.
Thanks |

| I checked for the 7100 and it's showing a delayed release date of May 14th for both Mac and Windows releases. |

I just finished the process of downloading and updating my 5100 with V1.2. Long process to download 1.73GB and upload to GPS. So far.... I feel I wasted my time. Have already found a major routing problem that I didn't have before. Still doesn't have my street address. Don't see any new streets that wasn't on the prior map... not sure this map is newer. Don't see any major improvements in the user interface. I wish I had waited to see what others had to say about the upgrade (if you can call it that). I know this sounds very negative but after taking several hours to find a routing issue I didn't have before is very discouraging.
The routing issue I found is going from my house to my son's house. He lives 38 miles away and the V1.1 took me the way I have always gone. Now it takes me past the street I should turn on for 7 miles, then has me do a U-Turn on the interstate and travel back the 7 miles to the street.... adds 14 miles. If you are interested in trying this route: Start at 621s 525w, Columbus, IN (exact address isn't available so use 525w) and travel to 1228 Breaside Ct, Greenwood, IN.
I will be trying on the road tomorrow so hope I find some improvements to help justify all the time I have put into the upgrade.
At present I would not recommend making the change but could be the area I live in. Others may see more improvements. I hope so. |

The route on my 2100 matches google exactly, pre update. The only thing I can think of is what are the preference factors in applicationsettings.xml. Did you ever apply any tweaks? I set all my preference factors to 1.0 and with that I get the best route, not counting map errors. Also, can you try the optimal and shortest settings to see if makes the tight turn? |
