The Intellinav 2 and 3 AIOs (see their topic) have a new routing option called "Traffic Pattern".

The following is from the Navteq press release on this feature:
NAVTEQ also announced the availability of their NAVTEQ Traffic Patterns Database. Traffic Patterns is a database of typical traffic speeds on over 170,000 miles of primary and secondary roads across major U.S. cities, including interconnecting highways. Application developers, fleet operators, automotive OEMs, and device manufacturers may now use this information to further enhance the quality of navigation routing. For example, if you know over the past several years that a particular segment of road is typically slow between 9 and 10 am, you can begin to predict what might happen tomorrow, even if you don't have real-time traffic data available for that road. By knowing the historical pattern, the GPS can suggest alternate driving routes much more confidently. Traffic Patterns delivers attainable speeds for primary and secondary roads in major cities across the US.
I have been attempting to test this on the Intellinav 2, but have found it very difficult to come up with usable results. The following is what I have found so far:
1. Using the Pattern option can make a definite difference in the route calculated by the unit;
2. The routes calculated often have unusual, and undesirable, consequences. Two that I have noted so far are that the unit will often ask me to get off a highway and then get back on at the next exit, even if the exits are so close together that I can see both of them. Second, when traveling on local roads the unit will route me completely around a small town, even though I am traveling at an hour when there should be no traffic.
Let's use this topic to share our results with this feature and see if we can come to any conclusions about it.

Goodidea to start a new topic, I had started some comparisons in the original topic here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=92075 but didn't get very far either. The planning mode is handy, but the end result didn't seem to provide information that was that useful, fine tuning seems to be difficult...

  The unique "Trip Planning" mode that relies on Navteq's Traffic Pattern data |
