Might not be the right place to ask, but... As I now can use the different MAC apps., I then wonder if using an external app will allow me to delete the entries one-by-one found under "Where to? > Recently Found"?

| Between updating on the PC and using Webupdater on the MAC, did you successfully get a satellite lock? |

First impressions:
2.0.0.6 is an improvement in many ways, from a spiffy new program icon, to more functions being activated.
The left pane vertical scrolling is a lot closer to actually working now, though the scroll bar vanishes when you run it all the way down in a long list.
But drawing speed is not only not improved; it's much worse in some cases [sigh]. Case in point: zoom changes are now much slower when using the slider. All of this appears to vary based on how "cluttered" the map is; western states and rural areas draw faster.
The Find function still presents some scary-looking screen-blanking at times, but at least the program survives the experience without crashing.
I'm very eager to try dragging routes to change them, as soon as I figure out a reliable, fast way to backup my previous work.

I just downloaded this on my dual G5/2.5ghz/2.5gb/10.4.11 and it is completely unusable with City Navigator 2009. I have only casually played with Bobcat in the past since MapSource seemed much more stable. But I don't remember Bobcat being so unresponsive as this version is. When I try to use the hand or zoom I get a spinning pinwheel for a long time - maybe 15 seconds - then the screen updates. I had map detail set to maximum.
Perhaps it would be better on my MacBook Pro, but I'm not so keen on filling up that drive with duplicates of the same big files I already use when I boot into Windows. Too bad, I was really interested in trying the draggable routes. |

That is very odd - it performs adequately (but certainly not faster than the previous beta) on my 2 gHz core Duo MacBook running 10.4.11.
I also have detail maxed and am using v2009.
Have you rebooted and/or repaired permissions since installing 2.0.0.6?

| No, just did the install and ran the program. Will have to check it out later. Of course, one might expect a significant difference in performance on an Intel Mac as opposed to a G5 though. |

Just re-booted and also repaired permissions. Same thing, but I played around a bit more. If I switch the the US Basemap from the City Navigator map, response is much quicker. And it is very dependent on how far I'm zoomed in. At 2 mi zoom range or closer, the CN maps become usuable, albeit painfully slow to respond. Zoomed out to the 50 mi range - forget it. Timed about 20 seconds for it to respond to dragging or zooming with CN. Switching to the basemap at 50 mi range, the same thing took 6 seconds for a response (which is still unacceptable since the lack of feedback makes you wonder if the program has crashed).
It would be nice if they provided a dropdown menu of zoom levels like the Mapsource, so you could go directly to the view you want. The slider is completely unresponsive on my G5, so you wonder what you just did and have to wait awhile to see what happens. I'm sure this would be faster on my Intel laptop, but no thanks. I think I've wasted enough time on this already and will continue to stick to Mapsource under Windows.

| On my iMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo it is blazingly fast even at the highest detail level. Dragging routes works great. |

Roger,
Has your vertical scroll bar in the upper left panel disappeared, as mine has?

WARNING As of this post, when Bobcat demands an update, it links to the old version (2.0.0.6) on Garmin's web site, not the 2.0.0.7 update.
This forces you into an endless loop where it won't run until it updates and it will never launch fully.
To work around this, download the new 2.0.0.7 manually and install it and all will be well.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3885
Here's the change log:
Change History Changes made from version 2.0.0.6 to 2.0.0.7: Fixed crash that occurred when loading Blue Chart and some other maps Fixed issue where routes and waypoints couldn't be selected by clicking on them Changed to handle 'city name, state' in the search field when searching for cities Changed zoom scale to update correctly when using Alt-scroll wheel to zoom Fixed issue where import could crash Fixed issue where recalculating a duplicated route could cause a crash

Here is a question: how would one go about using Bobcat with maps from one of Garmin's sd cards?
Thanks,
David |
