| Just bought a Navigon 2100 at Staples for $130 after tax , I was wondering if I can load Canada map to the SD card (lower 48 states maps) that comes with the unit ? |

| You will need to either upgrade to a new 4GB card or remove the 48US maps and replace it with the Can & US map, since both maps are about 1.7GB. |

I'll buy the 5100 card on ebay then copy & paste the maps over to the 2100's card then . Thank for the advice |

To make myself clear, I can't say for a fact that if the info is copied from the 5100 card to 2100 card that it will work.
I do know that there are 5100 CD's out there where the info can be copied and will work on the 2100.
But your experiment will be interesting to see if it does work. |

You will not be able to use the 5100 card in the 2100 without software changes. I tried this several times today to no avail. I purchased another 2GB SD card and copied the updated MN6 file for the 2100 which I recently got off the Navigon website(I also copied the autorunce file from the 2100 but the file is the same size on both units so you may not need to do this). I then copied the remainder of the files from the 5100 (minus the two I allready mentioned) to that SD card and did a hardboot (held power button for 6 seconds until the unit completely shut down). I then switched out my SD cards and started the unit by holding the power button again for 6 seconds. This worked great for me I have not noticed any issues and the unit actually seems a little faster when entering and sorting data. I have not left the house since doing this (just finished a couple of minutes ago) so testing has been minimal. I was very catious during the whole process. I copied all of the contents of both cards onto my computer and I did not want to erase either factory card just in case this didn't work (thus the purchase and use of the additional SD card). Sandisk by the way. It took a long time to copy roughly 2GB of info from and too the cards through the 2100 unit, 50-60 minutes each time.
Let me know if this works for you I would hate to see you get stuck with a purchase you can't use.

The transfer of files works alot faster when using a card reader and not through the Navigon.
You can pick one up for only a few bucks on ebay.

Barmac- your phraseology is confusing. You said you copied onto a spare 2Gb SD card the updated MN6 file from Navigon, then from the OEM Navigon 5100 card the remainder of the files (including the maps but not including the 5100 SD card MN6.exe file). When this non-OEM card is put in the 2100 and hard reset, did it work? If yes, that seems to imply that the 5100 files are compatible with the 2100 save for possibly the 5100 MN6.exe file, for which you need a 2100 version.
Presumably this would also work for the 7100, although I'm not sure if the SD card maps are any different.
It would interesting to see if simply overwriting the 2100 map files with the 5100 map files to see if that method would work.

The Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and USA and Canada maps will all fit on a 2GB card. You will have about 19MB free space left. Keep the 2100 MN6 folder and autorunce. The POI folder and the RealityView folder contain the info for the new maps, copy them onto the card. Then the map files. The traffic will still work. The maps from the 5100 or the 7100 will work. Do all of this on a spare card. Keep Your original card intact. |

I orgianlly tried copying over the files from 5100 card to the 2100 with no success..
My plan was to see if I can get Lane Assistant to work on the 2100.
Anyways I did get the US/Canada maps copied over to the 2100 (took a long time 50 min or so, as someone else reported) but this is how I did it.
So I copied all the info from 2100 and 5100 over to the Desktop.
I copied the map & poi files from the 5100 folder to the 2100. Renamed the 5100 maps/poi file to whatever the 2100 files were labeled as.
Deleted the "old/original" 2100 files and now the "new/5100" files were on the 2100.
Copied everything from the 2100 folder back to the device and map read the US states and Canada files.. cant really see a difference in the POI listing because there was on a difference of 300kb between the 2100/5100 (difference being the Canada POI proably)
