Navteq announced the Discover Cities maps at the 2008 MWC show in Barcelona. These maps are designed to improved the user experience when using GPS systems on foot in urban environments.
This could be interesting as the natural limitations of the GPS technology at low speeds in urban areas makes it difficult to use GPS systems on foot and get accurate guidance. What remains to be seen is how efficient these maps will be and how they will be integrated in GPS systems. GPS enabled smartphones and PDAPhones are good candidates but there haven't been any announcements so far.
