iTrek M7 Bluetooth GPS MTK v2 - Bluetooth - USB - 1/5Hz Update Rate

Product Page at Semsons : >> LINK << Posted 20080212 : Test unit just came in today and so far so good, here are some first comments :- Compact format reminiscent of the original iBlue 737
- Has a three way switch for USB use, the original iBlue could be modified to communicate over USB, but it turned itself off after 180 seconds, not a problem here

- Uses latest firmware revision : B_core 1.1 (7400)

- Comes with a new version of the GPS View Tool that can be used for various settings, including the update rate (set to 5Hz by default) as seen below

- Long distance Bluetooth range : as with the iBlue models the Bluetooth connection is powerful and will offer 100+ feet range, useful if you need to connect to your BT GPS from your latop for WAAS testing purposes.
- I did some indoor warm TTFF testing and it got a fix in 32 seconds, so it seems performance is up to the usual high standards of the iBlue MTK series
- Uses an 850mAh Li-Ion battery, so 1Hz battery life should reach about 24 hours and 5Hz battery life is rated at a 15 hours

[*]Compared to previous iTrek Models, the M5 and the M6:

Questions, comments ?
Original post by dmcgov : Seems to have about the same guts as the i-Blue 737, but you can configure the update rate (1-5)Hz. It will also interface with USB or Bluetooth. http://www.semsons.com/im7blgpsre51.html Anyone have more info? Thanks, Dan |

I'm just getting my pilot's license and think the higher update frequency might help at speeds > 100 mph. I look forward to your evaluation. Dan |

| FWIW, the iBlue 737 (B-Core 1.1) that Semsons is shipping will do 5HZ. It does not have USB though. The Low Speed Bug (LSB) is partly fixed. The Holux M1000B does 5HZ also, but has B-Core 1.0 which still has the LSB. |

I hope bluetooth will do the job. Maybe 2-3hz will be fast enough!? For the money it will be nice to play around. |

| It has been a couple of weeks since the last post in this thread. I'm wondering if anybody who has had time to test it out would like to give us their thoughts on the i.trek M7. |

Oh my! Another great GPS and for $49.99 (until Thursday)?!? I can't keep buying receivers, somebody point me to a GPS-holics anonymous :-) Seriously, has anyone in the US confirmed the WAAS capability? If this thing can have 2.5 meters accuracy at 5 Hz I'm buying one right now. Kamen |

Even if I could use WAAS for reliability only (e.g., so I can ignore positional info when it is not reliable), it will be a bonus for me. As for your comparative test - I wish I could see the same thing done at speed (i.e., not stationary) - at least my 5Hz GPS receiver has dramatic difference in accuracy when moving from stopped. | One factor that you need to consider in the 5Hz question is the software. All commercial on-road software I'm aware of is expecting to read the GPS signal once every second. If you set the unit to 5 Hz the other for readings will be ignored by the software. I don't know about off-road software or other types, but remember there are always two elements to this equation: the writer (the GPS) and the reader (the software) and they must be in sync. |

Thank you for the warning. I am, however, using my own software. Kamen |
