The WebFavorites feature seems like a great addition, but so far, I have been less than impressed. I have full MSNDirect functionality on the device. I am getting stock quotes, news, weather, movie times, gas prices, etc. My signal is full bars and my battery is full. My Nuvi is on. I have reset my MSN Direct signal.
My first experience with WebFavorites was sending 5 locations that I have defined in a Collection. Those 5 locations showed up in MSN Direct WebFavorites, but so did 5 other Nuvi favorites that I've never looked up in Live Maps ever. In fact, they were favorites that I added last weekend on a trip directly to my Nuvi. Why are these showing up in MSN Direct WebFavorites?
So, I delete them. It appears that this isn't a different storage location, it is merely a filter of our built-in favorites, because deleting them from the MSN Favorites view also deleted them from the Nuvi favorites.
Next, I delete the 5 WebFavorites that I transferred from the Collection. My MSN Direct WebFavorites are now empty. A few hours later, those 5 get put BACK in my WebFavorites. Why?
I've searched for and sent at least 10 different locations from Live Search Maps over the last 2 days. These are not collections, or items within collections, but simply search results from Live Maps, using the Send TO GPS feature that is shown on the search results. NONE of them have shown up on the GPS. The only items that ever show up are the ones that I send from a collection.
Great idea, but so far I am less than impressed by the execution. |

| Get in you MSN Direct diagnostic screen and you can better track where the issue is. You can track if it is even syncing and if the sync is being done on the User Locations via Send to GPS or not. At least you can start to figure out what the real problem is. |

The diagnostic screen confirms 100 signal strength, 100 battery. Last packet is today.
The 10th message in the message list says User Locs: 6.
This would confirm that I am getting activity it seems.
Sounds of if MSN Direct repeatedly sends the user locations throughout a period of a day or two, because even though I've deleted them twice from the GPS, they reappear every time.
That just begs for a Internet management app within MSN Direct to allow you to remove send locations so that they don't keep appearing on the GPS after being deleted.
This doesn't seem to explain why searched locations aren't being sent, only Collections so far.
Any particular data that I should be looking for in the diagnostic screens that would tell you anything valuable? [SNIP] |

not sure what to think... I watch my sync activity page and I don't even bother to check for a WebUpdate until I see the UserLoc gets updated. I get searched locations just fine so I am not seeing your problem. I thought maybe your signal reception to the MSN Direct transmitting tower was weak. I notice with mine when it is indoors that I can significantly strengthen/weaken my signal reception based on how I have the unit cable plugged in and how I have the cable either coiled up or stretched out towards my office window. I can actually lose connection and therefore nothing gets synced up.
I watch for my sync completed time instead of packets just to let me know when it last updated.
BTW; a quick tip in case you didn't know that you can get to the MSN Direct Status diagnostic screen directly from the MSN Direct menu screen. Just press and hold for about 10 seconds on the Service Status. I got that new trigger location from Microsoft at CES this year so you don't have to go to the battery icon or the max speed screen now.
I have seen one interesting bug that I am trying to duplicate. I was able to send a particular searched location just fine and it was in my WebFavorites and just like you mentioned Garmin uses the WebFavorites as a filtered version of the Favorites folder so deleting in one dumps the other. Anyway for some weird reason after playing around with two different MSN Direct receivers on two different 700 units I was no longer able to resend that initial searched point. I am not sure what I did but I can send any other new searched poi just fine. I have seen the repeated send after deletion too. I am trying to get my hands around that "bug" too. Not sure if that is related to being deleted before the next sync or what but it eventually does catch up and quits trying to send. |
