Hi ragudba.

Sorry I haven't got back with ya sooner.
My unit is a 3200, but I'm sure they a very similar.
If you are getting the White screen w/ the load bar then I'm sure u tried to update your bios and lost all the original software on the unit (by pressing the on/off button along with the reset button on the side of the unit and bringing up the Update screen).
You will need to do these things again with the proper files on a SDcard.
Before you do - you may want to replace your battery with a new 1 (the only place I was able to find the same battery is at the link ). If you don't want to replace the battery, you WILL HAVE TO remove it from the unit otherwise it will lock up the application (such as destinator) that you will be using.

"Sometime when I connect the unit, I see the files and sometimes I donot. Can you give the steps please and help"
The reason you are having this issue is because the battery has a very little charge left in it that is allowing you to see the HardDrive (HDD) on the unit. Once you remove the battery, you WILL NOT be able to use the USB connector to connect the unit to your computer.
The unit uses the battery power in USB mode.

Before I explain more details we need to determine what steps you took to get the white screen/load bar.
That will tell us if the original software is still on your GPS. In that case you could just pull the battery out and the unit should work fine through the car charger.
If you did the 'update bios' with a '.nb0' file you have whiped your unit clean of the software and will need to get a new application to run on it (like destinator 8).

I look forward to hearing back from ya.

Bricked my unit & kindabummed!

Hey Selsys1,

Sure could use some help on unlocking my Magellan 5310. I've looked at your posts but can't seem to follow how you did it. Have you posted a step by step. Would like to install some other mapping software on it for testing purposes as you have.
Thanks in advance.

I'm hoping someone can help me in diagnosing some issues I am having with my 4040.

Several months ago, I found a thread on here that linked me to a blog on how to hack my 4040. The blog link is

Prior to performing this hack, I copied all files off of the Maestro and put them in a folder on my PC hard drive.

I never really did anything with the hacked version for all the months that it was "hacked", so I opted to revert back to the OEM version. I deleted all of the files off the Maestro and copied the original files back to it.

It works, but it seems to be horribly slow. Inputting a city name isn't too bad, but street name can take forever. When in map mode it's a good 1/2 mile behind where it needs to be. Navigating back and forth through menus seems fairly quick, no real issue there. It's mostly when in map mode or when entering an address that it really slows down.

It's like the Maestro OS is working properly, but infomation files need to be optimized. Keep in mind, I just pulled all files off of it, and then replaced them as is. No shuffling or anything else was done within the OEM file structure.

I've updated to firmwear 2.62.

Any ideas? I'd just like to have it back to standard working condition like it was out of the box.

Try to perform a hard reset - hold power button for about 8 seconds and then turn unit back on. This should help to clean up the registry and probably some files that may be lingering on the flash drive.

If that doesn't help you can try to 'Reset For First Use' by getting into the hidden menu, if the 4040 supports this. Go to the System Settings page. On the top bar where the window title is tap twice in the left corner, twice in the right corner (just left of the "x" button), once again in the left corner and one last time in the right corner.

Thanks DoDoubleGeo, I appreciate the response - I've tried both to no success...Is there any option to download a complete file structure to reinstall on the unit?

Sorry, I don't have a 4040 device so I can't help with the file structure ... maybe someone else can chime in here.

Hi, gpschicago1,

Are you still around?

You'd posted a very good tut about Destinator and all that, and said you had a solution to the HD erasing problem, but I can't seem to find it...

I've been ricochetting around the forums, reading all kinds of stuff, so honestly it starts to get to be a blur... I have made a few posts, on a few forums (
, but have not received any responses.

I have a Maestro 3210.

You point at right thread, but wrong page. I have posted how to solve HDD Auto erase issue on page 7:

Before asking questions, I suggest reading whole thread or at least start reading from page 4.

You can obtain a firmware from Mag download page. It's usually in COPY_GROUP_6 folder after extraction.

After having used several methods exposed in this thread, I eventually adopted the XoverCE unlock as exposed here :
It works like a charm on my Maestro 3050 (which is basically same as 3100), and I managed to launch successfully softwares which did not worked with previous methods. Before installing XoverCE, many programs lacked libraries or dependencies that prevented them from executing properly.

I must also say that XoverCE is really easy to install (simply copy required files to the SD card and reboot).
Great thanx to the developper of this unlock.

Like many of you, I changed the Magellan Maestro 3225 splash screen and bricked my unit. A bricked unit only shows the Magellan logo on startup and then stops. I also reformatted my internal TFAT HDD flash drive and lost everything. Even though I created a full backup of my GPS's internal TFAT drive onto my PC, it was useless.

After doing some serious research, I was able to create a workaround that allows me to use the 3225 as a full functioning GPS unit, play most popular audio/video files. I also installed MioPocket 2.0 Release 39 on it which can open MS Word, Excel, Acrobat and many other popular file formats and play games.

I was able run softbutton and mgnshell.exe both from the SD card which started the USB interface and then my PC recognized the GPS's TFAT drive. However, the TFAT drive loses all copied information once you restart the unit. The following has been verified on my Magellan Maestro 3225 unit but should work on all 32xx models. Use the following at your own risk.

If you have not formatted your flash HDD (internal TFAT drive), and you have a backup of your GPS's internal TFAT drive, there is a very easy way to revive your unit. Follow these steps:

1. Using the backup you have on your PC, copy the original files that you have modified onto your SD card.

2. Copy softbutton, FileManCE, the DLLs and the ini files on your SD card's root from this download link:

3. Restart the 3225 with the SD card in the SD card slot, let everything load.

4. By running FileManCE, copy the original files from the SDMMC CARD back to their original directories under HDD and replace the files you have modified. Your GPS's TFAT internal flash drive shows up as the HDD folder in FileManCE.

5. Remove the SD card, click the reset button on the left side of the unit using a paper clip to restart the GPS. You have unbricked your 3225 !!!

If you are like me, formatted your 3225's internal flash HDD drive by pressing the reset button on the left and the on/off button on the right simultaneously for 10 seconds which started the bootloader then selecting the format option which bricked your GPS, use the following steps to unbrick your 3225 GPS unit.

1. Get a SD card that is 1 gig or larger and format it using FAT32. Charge your GPS fully.

2. Download this file and unzip it to the root of the SD card. Download link:

3. Copy a few small DIVX, XVID, MPEG4, JPG, MP3, WMA, WMV files to the root of the SD card.

4. Download TCPMP aka HPC GNU MEDIA PLAYER and unzip everything at the root of the SD card, name the folder HPC MEDIA PLAYER. It plays almost all popular audio and video files including DIVX, XVID, MP4, MP3, YouTube flash FLV, MP3, WMA, WMV, MPG. Download link:

5. Download Destinator 8 GPS application and the maps of your area. I found maps of almost every country in the world. Unzip everything under the DESTINATOR folder which resides at the root of the SD card. Replace the original \Destinator\UserData\GPSTMC.ini file with the one below. Unzip the maps under the DESTINATOR folder. It is alright to have map sub-folder names like SOUTH (AR LA MS OK TX). Destinator 8 application and ini file patch download links:
Maps download links:
USA Roads (45 MB)
Southeast (108 MB)
South (96 MB)
Mountain (62 MB)
Midwest (105 MB)
Pacific (82 MB)
East Central (86 MB)
Mid Atlantic (64 MB)
Northeast (65 MB)
Canada (57 MB)

6. After unzipping everything, on the SD card's root you should have Filemance.exe, softbutton.exe, 10 DLL files and 1 ini and 1 inf file. You should also have 2 folders at the root of the SD card. These 2 folders are HPC MEDIA PLAYER and DESTINATOR.

7. Under the DESTINATOR folder of the SD card, you should have the map sub-folders such as USAROADS and SOUTH (AR LA MS OK TX) and other sub-folders such as LANGUAGE, SKIN, USERDATA, VOICE along with the destinator.exe file and helper DLL and ini files.

8. Under the HPC MEDIA PLAYER folder of the SD card, you should have about 41 files.

9. Now restart the 3225 GPS unit with the SD card in the card slot. Let everything load. You will get a little popup from softbutton stating that 3 applications are about to automatically start. HPC Media Player, FileManCE and Destinator are going to start automatically. You can close FileManCE if you do not use it.

10. The softbutton will create a blue icon that will stay on top. Destinator8 will need a minute to lock atleast 4 satellites before it automatically shows your current location on planet earth. The female voice will prompt you. Use the demo function in Destinator8 to check out the features. You can switch, run or kill applications using softbutton. Load a audio/video file on the TCPMP aka HPC media player.

11. You have successfully unbricked the Magellan Maestro 3225 unit. I do not deserve any credit. This is just a compilation of stuff I have gathered from many different sites.

This was a tremendious instruction sheet and it does work but I can't pick up a GPS signal, everything seems to work fine. Is it possible my 3200C is not compatible with this set-up, I have tried everything but the SAT. link won't connect. reply to
