My Maestro 3225 stopped working after I tried to change the splash screen. I went to the Bootloader and formatted the HD. I need the ROM disk image (winceimg.bin) for Maestro 3225 on the SD flash drive so I can reinstall the OS and have the GPS unit recognized as a USB drive so I can re-write the MAP, SYS, USR and APP folders which I already backed up. Is there a way to fix the Magellan 3225 GPS unit?

I just got a the Maestro 3140 and wonder if this hack for the 3100 will work for the 3140. Doing some research and it seem like there are a lot of map hack and mods for the 3100. Are those compatible with the 3140 as well?

Magellan Maestro 4040 GPS

Is there someone who knows how to add the “Voice Command control for hands-free operation?”

Unbricked my Magellan Maestro 3225, full functional now. Here is the howto tutorial !!!

Like many of you, I changed the Magellan Maestro 3225 splash screen and bricked my unit. A bricked unit only shows the Magellan logo on startup and then stops. I also reformatted my internal TFAT HDD flash drive and lost everything. Even though I created a full backup of my GPS's internal TFAT drive onto my PC, it was useless.

After doing some serious research, I was able to create a workaround that allows me to use the 3225 as a full functioning GPS unit, play most popular audio/video files. I also installed MioPocket 2.0 Release 39 on it which can open MS Word, Excel, Acrobat and many other popular file formats and play games.

I was able run softbutton and mgnshell.exe both from the SD card which started the USB interface and then my PC recognized the GPS's TFAT drive. However, the TFAT drive loses all copied information once you restart the unit. The following has been verified on my Magellan Maestro 3225 unit but should work on all 32xx models. Use the following at your own risk.

If you have not formatted your flash HDD (internal TFAT drive), and you have a backup of your GPS's internal TFAT drive, there is a very easy way to revive your unit. Follow these steps:

1. Using the backup you have on your PC, copy the original files that you have modified onto your SD card.

2. Copy softbutton, FileManCE, the DLLs and the ini files on your SD card's root from this download link:

3. Restart the 3225 with the SD card in the SD card slot, let everything load.

4. By running FileManCE, copy the original files from the SDMMC CARD back to their original directories under HDD and replace the files you have modified. Your GPS's TFAT internal flash drive shows up as the HDD folder in FileManCE.

5. Remove the SD card, click the reset button on the left side of the unit using a paper clip to restart the GPS. You have unbricked your 3225 !!!

If you are like me, formatted your 3225's internal flash HDD drive by pressing the reset button on the left and the on/off button on the right simultaneously for 10 seconds which started the bootloader then selecting the format option which bricked your GPS, use the following steps to unbrick your 3225 GPS unit.

1. Get a SD card that is 1 gig or larger and format it using FAT32. Charge your GPS fully.

2. Download this file and unzip it to the root of the SD card. Download link:

3. Copy a few small DIVX, XVID, MPEG4, JPG, MP3, WMA, WMV files to the root of the SD card.

4. Download TCPMP aka HPC GNU MEDIA PLAYER and unzip everything at the root of the SD card, name the folder HPC MEDIA PLAYER. It plays almost all popular audio and video files including DIVX, XVID, MP4, MP3, YouTube flash FLV, MP3, WMA, WMV, MPG. Download link:

5. Download Destinator 8 GPS application and the maps of your area. I found maps of almost every country in the world. Unzip everything under the DESTINATOR folder which resides at the root of the SD card. Replace the original \Destinator\UserData\GPSTMC.ini file with the one below. Unzip the maps under the DESTINATOR folder. It is alright to have map sub-folder names like SOUTH (AR LA MS OK TX). Destinator 8 application and ini file patch download links:
Maps download links:
USA Roads (45 MB)
Southeast (108 MB)
South (96 MB)
Mountain (62 MB)
Midwest (105 MB)
Pacific (82 MB)
East Central (86 MB)
Mid Atlantic (64 MB)
Northeast (65 MB)
Canada (57 MB)

6. After unzipping everything, on the SD card's root you should have Filemance.exe, softbutton.exe, 10 DLL files and 1 ini and 1 inf file. You should also have 2 folders at the root of the SD card. These 2 folders are HPC MEDIA PLAYER and DESTINATOR.

7. Under the DESTINATOR folder of the SD card, you should have the map sub-folders such as USAROADS and SOUTH (AR LA MS OK TX) and other sub-folders such as LANGUAGE, SKIN, USERDATA, VOICE along with the destinator.exe file and helper DLL and ini files.

8. Under the HPC MEDIA PLAYER folder of the SD card, you should have about 41 files.

9. Now restart the 3225 GPS unit with the SD card in the card slot. Let everything load. You will get a little popup from softbutton stating that 3 applications are about to automatically start. HPC Media Player, FileManCE and Destinator are going to start automatically. You can close FileManCE if you do not use it.

10. The softbutton will create a blue icon that will stay on top. Destinator8 will need a minute to lock atleast 4 satellites before it automatically shows your current location on planet earth. The female voice will prompt you. Use the demo function in Destinator8 to check out the features. You can switch, run or kill applications using softbutton. Load a audio/video file on the TCPMP aka HPC media player.

11. You have successfully unbricked the Magellan Maestro 3225 unit. I do not deserve any credit. This is just a compilation of stuff I have gathered from many different sites.

I have 3210. Can I update it with the 3220 v4.72 or the 3250 v4.60 updates? I believe the hardwares are identical? I read unconfirmed source that the 32100 also has mic input.

I want the TTS feature.

iGo8 is running like a champion on my Magellan Maestro 3225 hardware now.
I recently traveled many states and iGo8 worked perfect except 1 minor hiccup in AZ.
There is also a way to stop the auto-erasing of the HDD TFAT flash drive after cold reboot.
The how-to documents are coming soon. Stay tuned.

Hi all. I made it to have IGO8 running on the maestro 4040 from the SD card by using softbutton, but I have some issues with the "safety screen" that pops up when you switch on the device as it hangs the device when you power it off: the only way is to keep the power button pressed in order to have windows CE power off and not only suspend.
Does anybody have a good shell replacement for the maestro 4040? Anybody got tomtom working on it without all te errors about missing components?

I did get MP2 (r45) installed onto the 5310, all MioPocket functions worked ok, except that my known good copy of iGO8 wouldn't launch from it. At that point, I gave up.

For the reset problem, I think you need to open up MioPocket.ini and set ResetAfterInstall=0

Check out Osprey response to me on this link;

Thanks for help, but it doesn't work.
In the post with Osprey you tell him that you saw "final says completed". I never saw it in my install process.
In fact I think Im looping in the install process and not after like you where.

Ive try the let reboot 25 times method, the edit file Unlock.mscr (put # before restart and reset)
and your method without any result.

PS: Ive read about ppl who saw install complet in the process. I never saw any of this.
heres what I saw
MP install windows (2 lines wrotes)
Magellan Warning info (loading)
Magellan Congif menu (still loading)
Blue desktop with 4 icons
Maggelan config menu again
MP3 Desktop
3-4 secondes after black screen for 1 sec
then reboot and loop

Have you any ideas or can you share me the content of you sd card ?
Thanks a lot

Hi Everyone,

I have iGO8 running on my 3225 (via softbutton) ALMOST flawlessly. The issue I am having is that whenever I unplug the gps from a usb connection (including the car charger) it does a complete reboot. Also, if I leave mgshell shell running and plug in the car charger the "USB conneced" screen comes up. I think the 2 issues might be related but I'm not sure what files I should alter to fix it (if any).

Also, can any one direct me to site on how to have icons/procedures show up on the softbutton desktop? It's a little annoying to have to run/kill/kill the way I have it setup now.
