I'm hoping I didn't paperweight my 3900...I successfully installed the Ricks skin (looked pretty good, by the way) and was fooling around in the GPS system settings and changed the baud rate to "AUTOMATIC." All of a sudden, the unit lost the GPS signal and now it can't find the GPS hardware. In the main AMCOR 'Cockpit/Map/Settings/About' scree, the larger green box on the left reads "No GPS signal."
Help! |

kalyankop: I was following your questions regarding restoring the flash filesystem / CE core, but I didn't see how you eventually recovered it.
I've got something very strange happening to my device; I'd put a couple of apps on my sd card like tcpmp. Things were going well until something caused a hard reboot - I'm not even sure which app it was. When the unit came back after the amcor screen; I've got a black window with a spinning hourglass. It never goes away and the unit seems to lock up at that point. The hourglass is spinning and activesync won't work. I can hard reset and see the usb/activesync screen pop up, but it still freezes on "usb detected" with the hourglass in the foreground. It's as if something is autorunning and hanging on boot - maybe a bad skin?
Anyway, without the ability to launch activesync, I can't access the flash/filesystem and figure out what's happened. I think I've just created a paperweight :( |

Power down your units with out battery power for a while, battery switch to the off for a while should restore your gps settings, but you should leave the com 1, buad 4800 alone.
As for not loading and having a black screen, something is not loading from windows, again reset the unit without battery power for a few minutes, I have had to go as far as to remove the battery, so that the unit would reboot normal, If you go as far as removing the battery, be very careful of the sound switch, and battery switch, you have to open the unit from the sd card side, then the top, and bottom, and on the switch side hold the cover down, so it doesnt pry the switches up, and slide it out from the switches.
but first try to kill the power for a while with the battery switch, if after you power up your still see the corect date and time, the unit is still storing settings.

@fryler87 I'm not sure where the GPS settings are stored, but you could try to delete the \MyFlashDisk\iGO\iGO.DB file and reboot. It will get recreated when you launch the iGO software and should default your settings. If that doesn't help, the GPS setting might get written to the registry. If that is the case, you may try restoring the registry.
See smurff2's post on page 5 (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101292&whichpage=5) for a few links that may be useful if you don't have a copy of the original registry. |

Can anyone provide me with as list of directories and files that should be in the MyFlashDisk directory. Fooling around and seem to have a missing or corrupt file. Getting <critical error: unable to open application database>
BTW
i have a tip and a question:
tip: disable the i agree disclaimer...copy \MyFlashDisk\iGO\sys.txt to your pc open it with notepad and change the line "drive_carefully=1" to "drive_carefully=0" close and save. then copy it back to the amcor 3900 (you have to do the copy / overwite because their is no notepad app to edit directly in win ce)
my question: now that i can boot to windows ce, i want a desktop icon to launch the gps i tried going to \MyFlashDisk\igolaunch.exe and create shortcut (send to desktop) and it works. until i power off then it is gone. (a bounus would be if i could get the icon to stick in the start menu or start / programs
i notice that when i launch the gps you have to reboot via the slide battery switch to get back to windows ce. [/quote] |

Thanks Smurff2; I'll give it a shot. I'm must admit; I'm a bit confused -- I thought the os filesystem was on some type of rewritable flash. Wouldn't that survive with no power?
I kept the power switch turned off all day. When I turned it back on, there was the same deal with something loading on boot & freezing. WinCE is there; there's an hourglass and the chime of the sd card being recognized, but nothing beyond that.
Anyway, I just gave it 10 minutes with the battery out but that apparently wasn't enough. I'll check back tomorrow after letting it sit overnight. |

@ihorp
The pna directory on the DVD appears to be identical to the MyFlashDisk directory on the Amcor (minus a few files that are created at runtime). If you are getting the database error when attempting to start the navigation app, you can safely delete the MyFlashDisk\iGO\iGO.DB database file and then reboot. |

I have tried a few different programs, to no avail. I thought I'd seen something posted here, but I said to myself, "Self", I said... there's no way you'll need any of that information, you're too tech-savvy to go and bugger up one of those devices.
Now I'm also a liar, apparently.
So I think I bricked one of the three I bought. One for me, one for the missus and one for my father-in-law. I gave Sprite Software's "Clone" a shot and it's pretty useless for this application.
If Jeffs XDATools can salvage this unit or let me at least clone one to another, then you shall have your .bin. Just make sure your profile is set to allow other members (ie - me) to send you emails. |

you will also get a black screen if you screw up the data.zip file inside myflashdisk, the file is about 210k in size, you can find the original in the dvd that came with the unit, incase you tranfered my moded data file over, did you remember to rename it data.zip not 2data.zip
thats the only other thing I can think of that you might have messed with,
when the unit starts it runs a buch of program files and the YFshell.exe, yfshell executes the igolaunch.exe inside myflashdisk, that loads the amcor skin thats inside the 210k data.zip that sits next to it, thats what you see when you start the unit.
So parts of windows are loading, you get the hour glass, not sure if you can connect via activesync. I dont remember if you can connect via the cable ??
if you can just replace the data.zip incase its corupted.
also lets see what the unit does if you create a file named addons.txt in the root of the sdcard, inside addons.txt add these lines
[modules] SD Card = "", "", 0
[SD Card] Explorer = "", "\\Windows\\explorer.exe"
save the change, and reboot the unit with the reset button.

@capt_crunch
I wiped out the iGO.DB file (as I have done before) noticing that the com port and speed are both listed in that file. No resolution. I downloaded the registry backup file that smurff2 linked to, but am unsure whether or not this is for the 3900. I don't want to install a registry for a machine that it's not for.
Otherwise, does anyone else have a backed up copy of the registry from the 3900??? (Windows CE 4.2) |

@fryler87
Yes the reg backup is for your amcor 3900, you need the reg tool I listed with it also.
I tried to explain that the system has to power down, the satelite receiver needs to loose its settings, I had the same thing happen to me, and had to power down the unit until the receiver lost the settings,
first you may also wana try the sirftech software
http://w5.nuinternet.com/s660100031/SirfTech.2008-03-02.v2.04.zip
unzip it, copy it over to your sd card, and go in to explorer to run it, under com, have it find the posrt and buad.
The protocol is NMEA
under Nmea try to do a cold start, snap start.

This thread is great. I've had my 3900 for a week now and I've decided that it's worth spending the time to put some different GPS software on it. The factory software creates the stupidest routes. It always wants me to go through subdivisions and side streets rather than take the main roads. I have it set to Fast on the Fast-Optimal slider and I have the route selection to "Fastest". Still drives me nuts.
I also noticed that it doesn't know the speed limits of the streets I drive. I set the display to put "speed limit" as one of the items listed on the cockpit view and it's always blank. This might explain why it wants me to go through subdivisions since it doesn't know they're 1/2 the speed of the main roads. Anyone else have any experience here?
@ smurf & Capt - what software are you using?
@ anyone who has successfully installed Tom Tom or some other software - which one and how do you like it? Thanks!

| I just wish you could save roads to avoid. It works fine for one route, then you have to do the same thing over again.... |
