Updated 20090504 - This is now confirmed, Navigon USA are laying off most of their staff and will only keep operations running to support existing models. This likely means new maps via the FreshMaps subscriptions, it's unlikely the 7310 software update will be made available for the 7210 model though...

Original Post : Can't name my source, but Navigon US has closed nearly its entire North American offices, employees are laid off and there will be no spring product launches.

If you don't have a backup, other than buying another 2100 Max I'm not aware of any other way to fix this. I'm not sure how customer handle this type of situation in Europe, it's probably pretty costly.
mediaparty Posted - 06 janv. 2010 : 15:54:38
Since we can't talk to Navigon via phone and they are not responding to emails does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of replacement software for my 2100 MAX. The files on the card got corrupted and now it's useless. Any suggestions of where I might be able to get/buy a replacement SD card would be helpfull
wallstreet123456 Posted - 11 août 2009 : 15:38:29
It seems that each time someone contacts tech support you can get a different answer so I was just wondering what others were told.
gpspassion Posted - 11 août 2009 : 15:36:04
One would have hoped so, but you're the one who talked to them last.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 11 août 2009 : 15:28:21
The cigarette power plug/traffic antenae is not working.

I thought Navigon was supporting existing owners, am I mistaken ?
gpspassion Posted - 11 août 2009 : 15:24:35
This is indeed quite disappointing, what's wrong with your GPS ?

@aaronwt - don't know but check the Q2 Navigon Fresh topic to see when the latest ones were released and ask over there.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 11 août 2009 : 14:24:22
Here is the message I received regarding support for my Navigon product. I thought they would contiunue to support their products but I can't get replacement parts.

Dear Mr.

Thank you for your inquiry.

We do apologize your frustration and the trouble you have, but unfortunately we do not support the devices any longer, sorry.

aaronwt Posted - 11 août 2009 : 14:21:41
Any idea when Q3 maps are coming?

Yes, discussed here :

Does anyone have any info on when the second quarter 09 fresh maps will be available. Thanks
gpspassion Posted - 25 mai 2009 : 21:55:21
How very odd ! Could be that, or something that had been programmed into the system on 05/25 and just showed up automatically !
aaronwt Posted - 25 mai 2009 : 20:43:01
Why did the 7300T, 4300T, and 3300 MAX models just show up on the BestBuy online website? They were not there last week. And you can actually add the items to you cart and order them. Although it says they are backordered and will ship in 2 to 3 weeks.
Navigon announced 3 weeks ago that they are pulling out of the market. I wonder why these units just showed up on the BEstBuy website. Maybe Navigon has decided to sell the units they had packaged and were ready to sell in the US.
hachiroku Posted - 25 mai 2009 : 06:35:34
wow, the innovators and front runners of the portable GPS market has folded its cards in the USA market.

this sucks.
gpspassion Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 22:25:43
You should ask in the 7200 topic ->
cbabbman Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 21:30:40
I'm really wondering here and would like to see some input from Navigon owners on what they experienced with map versions when they purchased their units.

I don't want to make a fuss is their company policy is "you get what maps you got". If that's it, then well, I have a nice unit and I'll bite the dust and just purchase freshmaps at full price.

But if everyone else got a discount on Freshmaps with their purchase and/or the ability to update at least to the latest release of the maps, I'd like to know that too.

Thanks everyone.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 20:22:52
I did not think the cards were specific to any particular unit but I may be wrong.

aaronwt Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 20:13:40
Can the freshmaps cards be used for any device or only specific ones. I see some cards for sale but they list "Compatible with Navigon 2100, 2100 Max, 5100, and 7100 GPS navigation systems"
Will I be able to use this card for the 7200T?
cbabbman Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 20:06:05
as far as I can tell, you can still order it although the prices seem to be all over the place.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 19:55:16
I agree with you. Are they still offering freshmaps now or have they stopped that too?
cbabbman Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 19:50:37
And that's what ticks me off. It would be one thing if they would at LEAST allow you the update to get current considering it's new. But making you pay for what all the other manufacturers give you for free is ridiculous.

I'm not talking about future updates, those I understand I should pay for, but I am talking about something new out of the box that should have the latest.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 19:35:19
As much as I love my 7200T, I would not keep it if I just got it and wasn't able to get map updates. The unit is only as good as the maps and I would not want old maps. I know the unit will work fine with old maps but I am picky and always want to be up to date.
cbabbman Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 19:29:27
You should get a software update, but not any map updates...
aaronwt Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 19:26:06
I got mine today. There was no voucher in the box. Freshmaps was only mentioned on the accessory page in the Quick Start guide.
When I get home tonight I'll register the unit and load the software on the PC to see what my options are. If I can't get any updates then I'll have to return it to amazon.

Oh, my unit came with 2008 maps also.
cbabbman Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 17:35:27
]This is not true as far as my experience goes.

I bought my 7200T on May 5th. It came with Q3 2008 US maps. I received no voucher for discounted freshmaps nor was there anything in the box that talked about freshmaps.

I called Navigon tech support and asked what the policy is for map updates. I am used to garmin and Tomtom where they let you update your maps to the latest for free (within 30 days of purchase) if they were out of date when it was purchased.

I was told 2 different times by tech support that you get what you got and if you wanted new maps, buy Freshmaps.

I called corporate here in Chicago and was told the same thing.

And in all honesty, they were not very nice about it nor did they mention or offer discounts or anything else, even though I had just purchased my unit.

I would love to hear other experiences with this as I believe that if I purchase something new, I OUGHT to be given the latest maps. Short of that, at least a discount.
gpspassion Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 10:33:00
Welcome to the forums.

You probably won't have the latest maps, but you have 30 days to update them for free via Navigon Fresh and normally you should have a voucher to purchase Freshmaps for $19.95.
aaronwt Posted - 19 mai 2009 : 06:48:46
I just purchased the 7200T from Amazon this past weekend. I should receive it late rthis week. Do the new 7200T units come with the most recent maps? It looks like it is going to be difficult to find the freshmaps to purchase, unless they offer me something when I register my device.
Nikon1 Posted - 17 mai 2009 : 19:16:47
Navigon left the US Market - that's a shame! I still love my 8100. Just wonder what this means for any warranty issues that may arise in the future. I'm really glad that I activated my FreshMaps when I did. I only wish they'd released a screen protector and case for the 8100 before leaving.

gpspassion Posted - 11 mai 2009 : 15:25:17
Yes and no, they were once used as the GPS engine for the OnCourse Navigator PDA software, not under their own name, see this for the whole history - they had launched on 11/16/2004 and stopped on 07/01/2006.
wallstreet123456 Posted - 11 mai 2009 : 15:20:03

Am I mistaken or did Navigon once enter and leave the US market before? If so they will have to do a lot to gain customers like me back if they ever come back into the market in the US
gpspassion Posted - 11 mai 2009 : 15:16:09
Yes I wouldn't worry about traffic, it is provided over FM so as long as the device has the correct key it will work, in other words it can't be turned off from a distance.

@Marillion Fan - good question, if you find a valid Freshcard to buy I can't see why it wouldn't, I've noticed it sells for its MSRP of $99 now, far from the once hard discounted $26!
wallstreet123456 Posted - 11 mai 2009 : 14:59:22
My traffic service is still working.
Marillion Fan Posted - 07 mai 2009 : 01:51:26
Do you think that any purchase of fresh maps made from now will be honored?
XxhaimBondxX Posted - 06 mai 2009 : 02:37:15
I'm going down with the ship and will be using it until it dies. If the traffic updates available, even better.
gpspassion Posted - 06 mai 2009 : 02:22:16
Traffic is an onboard licence, so that's ok, map updates via FreshMaps, well unless they buy out the contracts (ViaMichelin did that in France by refunding everyone) they'll have to keep on providing them, shouldn't be too hard since they still need updated maps for their "other products".

@XxhaimBondxX - Still lined up for release in Europe...
larryc Posted - 06 mai 2009 : 02:16:03
So what does this mean to those who purchased lifetime traffic, map updates, etc?
(That's a rhetorical question unless someone here has inside information )
XxhaimBondxX Posted - 06 mai 2009 : 00:56:53
This comes as a shock! The only decent GPS brand and it's gone. Does that mean we will never see 7300T in the stores?
gpspassion Posted - 05 mai 2009 : 22:51:31
You mean here ? Yes it didn't take them long to move on, they could have posted something would never know by just reading There is only one direction: Forward !
redkoat64 Posted - 05 mai 2009 : 22:09:18
This is pretty big.... go out and look at there is no mention of PND devices at all.... in fact the icon showing automotive gps pnd is blurred out.... its history..... too bad i really liked my 2100max
weatheryoko Posted - 05 mai 2009 : 16:12:41
"We are however not closing down our Chicago office which will continue to serve our automotive and mobile phone businesses in North America.”

What mobile phone business? Is Navigon NA perhaps going to release their PDA/phone version of MN7 here in the States?

Just wondering. I'd rather have the 7310T software upgrade....
paulkbiba Posted - 05 mai 2009 : 15:47:28
This is a real disappointment as I think that Navigon has the best system out there. I just bought one to use as my "standard". I tried calling some of my contacts, but no answer from anyone. In the US our choices are narrowing pretty quickly and it looks as if it may be a Garmin world over here.
wolf1306 Posted - 04 mai 2009 : 21:48:38
sad sad day indeed
gpspassion Posted - 04 mai 2009 : 20:32:00
Thanks, I had pinged someone I know there, no answer, maybe he's already gone...

So they will only keep operations running to support existing models. This likely means new maps via the FreshMaps subscriptions, but it's unlikely the 7310 software update will be made available for the 7210 model...
Dewi Posted - 04 mai 2009 : 18:36:12
GPS Business News has confirmation here.

NAVIGON’s CEO Egon Minar spoke this morning to GPS Business News: “Due to the difficult economic environment and the aggressive pricing we have decided to withdraw from the PND business in North America for the time being. We are however not closing down our Chicago office which will continue to serve our automotive and mobile phone businesses in North America.”

Egon Minar did not detail how many people are affected by this downsize, but it is a “significant number of people in our Chicago office”, he said. Only a few people will remain to take care of the existing PND customers: “we will continue to fulfill all obligations to our existing PND customers in terms of map update, etc.”, he added.
gpspassion Posted - 01 mai 2009 : 10:50:11
Could be a chicken and egg problem, maybe they weren't able to "get in" over there...
netboy Posted - 01 mai 2009 : 10:47:01
maybe this would not happen if they sell their products on Bestbuy, walmart, frys, target, etc. Tomtom and Garmin are selling everywhere!
gpspassion Posted - 30 avr. 2009 : 18:41:42
A bit like the Mio USA scenario then? That is certainly bad news and though the economy is bad GPS sales are still progressing in the US compared to Europe. I suppose its Garmin and TomTom reaping the benefits of that then...

If confirmed, I wonder what this is going to do to Navigon in general since they were bought over by a US fund a couple of years ago...
