I think the point is - if you find the need to install v4.4, maybe by then it would also include fixes for anything v4.3 inadvertently "broke". No need to install v4.3 if you don't specifically need anything it is supposed to address (in this case - an OEM GPS unit).
Kniom Posted - 03 août 2011 : 07:08:34
because as versions are incremental of course: when v4.4 is available it will include v4.3
so even if we don't install v4.3 on our "non OEM" device as you seem advice us, changes made in v4.3 will be made later with future version, except if you definitively stop upgrading your device...

Unless your 37xx came with your car it doesn't seem very useful to do this 4.30 update. Why ask for trouble?
NanaimoRick Posted - 02 août 2011 : 19:30:02
OEM = Original equipment manufacturer

These are units that Garmin make for automobile manufactures. Chrysler for example use Garmin units for their navigation system. Often these will have company specific splash screens and have "save mode" permanently turned on so you can't use them while the vehicle is in motion.

What is an "OEM" unit? Is it different from a unit I purchased in a store?

I have been very happy with 4.20. It finally fixed all the bugs that affected me.

This bug seems to have been fixed with sw4.20
Can somebody confirm this?

The diappearing Distance problem was fixed with 4.20.

Thanks for info, I deleted JCV from nuvi and restoring it for tests would be a bit problematic.

My 3760 has only 4GB. I'm using card reader for writing to SD, so this error was rather a secondary problem to me. But if this is hardware deficiency, than I prefer to have fully functional device.

I understand that this problem was part of the JV not showing issue. Since the Junction View problem was fixed I assume that this was also.

Can't be 100% sure because I actually never saw the problem on my 3790.

@popej, IMO the delay in showing JV pictures in browse mode isn't an SD card issue. I notice this when browsing a route in simulation mode and I don't use an SD card in my 3790 most of the time. Wirh 8GB of storage on this unit I don't think I'll own it long enough to have to worry internal storage space anyway.

FYI - this feature exists only in old nuvi 37xx. Since 2011Q1 it was solved in new hardware. Garminz refused to do a software patch for older models.

If there is no software solution, than we should get device replacement. Maybe it is time to call Garmin support?

I was trying to use JCV on SD and got visible delay when browsing route preview. Maybe transfer form PC is not the only manifestation of hardware problems. Maps are getting bigger and nuvi memory is limited, properly working SD can be necessary in future.

I can update list of bugs. I wasn't able to check some specific errors reported by users in 4.10 thread, this errors are left out for a moment.

1. 37xx doesn't optimize active route when adding via. With multiple via you can get silly, unusable route. See http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139535

2. Trip planning is no substitute for multiple points routes, navigation with trip isn't usable, see http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139283

3. 37xx doesn't show POIs from City Navigator. In any mode, nor when browsing map, using pedestrian navigation or creating route to POI.

4. Nuvi doesn't show delay caused by obstacles reported by TMC. You need to swap some screens to check if this is a serious obstacle. This isn't convenient nor safe. Actually this info is not readable, see 7.

5. When finding destination for a route there is no possibility to correct destination on a map. You can't move your destination to nearest parking or other building number. This functionality was present in nuvi 2x5.

6. Disabling autozoom doesn't work correctly. When leaving map screen and returning back, scale is always set to 300m, which is mostly unusable value.

7. Some text messages use very small fonts, probably size 6-7 typographic points. This is for example TMC message about obstacles on your road.

8. There is no Polish TTS voice. Actually we have unofficial and patched beta voice which works in Polish. Why can't Garmin release this voice, since it is selling nuvi in Poland?

9. DEM shading on 37xx works weird. Topo maps are upside down, mountains look like valleys and rivers flow on ridges. You can see it even on basemap.

10. Transfer to SD card is very slow. Safe disconnecting of nuvi form PC works suspicious when SD card is inside.

11. Custom POIs can't be added to the trip planner.

12. Traffic icon no longer turns grey when traffic receiver is disconnected/removed. It stays green just as if the receiver were still connected.

13. Nuvi doesn't show version of TrafficProviders.xml in GarminDevice.xml. Because of this there is permanent update of Traffic Providers in WebUpdater.

SergZak Posted - 23 juin 2011 : 20:17:55
Thanks for testing the JV fix, Rick. I've found however that the persistent "Database for FM Traffic Providers" bug has still not been resolved. I have yet to check the operation of the traffic receiver/traffic icon color to see if it still stays green when the traffic receiver is disconnected or if the data is old. I'll report my findings in a bit.

EDIT: Traffic icon color change on disconnect/old data has not been fixed either...unless this is now "normal" behavior...silly if you ask me. I'm going back to v3.60 once again.
