I'm having a problem with the device alerting on upcoming POIs. Using the POIs below, only the wifi POI alerts with voice and screen display. The other two do nothing.
Here are the locations cut and pasted from the respective .csv files as viewed in Excel. Long is from column A, Lat is from B, and name from C. The Wendys is the wifi.

Here are the names of the POI files used.

They were loaded into the 1490T with PoiLoader in Manual mode to confirm that they were loaded with Alert enabled. Nuvi Proximity Alert was enabled with one beep.
I then ran a simulated route past all 3 POIs. The girl in the box announced all upcoming turns and the wifi location, but remained silent as I trucked by Advance and the hospital. She did, however, display the icon for the hospital - but not the little green alert box. No beeps for any.
What's wrong here? I'm obviously missing something.
Note: I actually drove by those POIs the other day with the same results - which is what prompted me to do simulator testing.

I agree, it would be good if users had the option as some might not want to be alerted to stuff that far off route ... it irks me too but Garmin tend to give so few 'user settings' these days :-( |

Right - and it was that that made me think about moving the POI a few hundred feet closer to the road, and I thank you for that tweak - but I consider 400-500 ft (a block over) from the road to be close to my route. I'd like to see Garmin increase that limit a little bit - or give the user an option to do it. I can see just about everything within 150 ft, and don't need to be alerted. it's the stuff a block or so over that I might like to be reminded about. |

That's what I said. Garmins POI alerts depend on the POI being on, or very close to, the route you're on. |

As near as I can tell, the alert distance that PoiLoader puts in the gpi file is an up-the-route distance, and doesn't seem to have anything to do with distance off to the side of the route being traveled. So far, it looks like that any custom POI that's more than about 150 feet off to the side of the calculated route is not going to be alerted - no matter how much the PoiLoader alert distance is increased.
For example, the custom hospital POI - which turned out to be 300-400 ft off to the side of the route - did not alert at all even with an alert distance of 5000 ft.
As to the Street Atlas map vs the Nuvi map, picking coordinates off SA and loading them into the 1490 via the csv POI file results in nearly identical (within about 100 ft) locations for the 3 that I tested. For example, using the custom hospital POI, it's about 300 ft off the route on the Nuvi screen, and about 400 ft off the road when the csv coordinates are put into SA.
At that distance off the road, the Nuvi - with a proximity alert distance of 1320 ft - displays the icon, but does not alert. |

This is why I asked about "redlight," figuring you might want to try a larger radius.
Also, if I'm understanding your reference to Street Atlas, whenever you move locations from one map "brand" to another, errors inevitably happen. Tiny differences in map coding can make huge differences in navigation and operation.

Yes and no and I think I've figured it out. If the coordinates of the POI put it more than about 150 feet off the calculated route, it won't alarm.
I did this by getting coordinates measured off the route in Street Atlas, and running the route with the POI at various distances off the route. With the POI 140 ft off the route, the girl talks to me. At 160 ft, she doesn't.
I suppose they had to cut it off at some distance, or it would be beeping or talking about everything in a quarter-mile radius. But myownself would like to have it out a little farther - say 400-500 feet - there might be something up the block on that street to my right (or left) that I'd like to know about.
Anyway, I now think I know that there's probably nothing wrong with my refurbished Nuvi, my PoiLoader, or my POI files. |

Are you sure the locations are actually on your route? Even if the icon appears to indicate the POI is on route if the location isn't then you won't get an alert. |

"redlight" does tell POI Loader to automatically give it a .25 mile alert - which is what I want. But I'm not getting it on 2 of the 3 files.
I'm not getting why 1 file works and the other 2 don't. Everything internally and externally on all 3 looks the same to me.

Sorry for the bum steer. I thought "redlight" gave it a default .25-mile alert, which may not be what you want.

I changed the filenames to:

and got the same result.
Then I changed them to:

WiFi_redlight.wav
and got the same result.
The csv files Do have commas in them. When I load them in Excel, the comma separators just determine the column.
I still don't see what's going on here. These files worked fine in my old C330. |

No, for the proximity alert to go off the file MUST have the word Redlight in it.
I can see one problem with your file names however, there can be no spaces between any of the words. Although this doesn't explain why WiFi is working (because it shouldn't and Advance Auto Parts should) but the file names should be:
Advance_Auto_Parts_redlight.csv and wav
WiFi_redlight.csv or WiFiredlight.csv and wav
Hospitals_redlight.csv or Hospitalsredlight.csv and Wav and bmp
Also, although I don't work with csv files I always thought that the format was:
-83.176249, 32.194049, Advance Auto Parts
-83.189523, 32.20803, Wendys
-83.1779, 32.1849, Dodge County Hospital
Could the lack of commas be part of the problem?

I'm not an expert on these, but you might try eliminating the word "redlight" from the file names. See POI Loader Help for details on how file names affect alerts.
