Posted - 16 févr. 2011 : 16:53:39 Garmin has release the newest version of City Navigator North America this morning. Although not showing as available for all users yet, some folks are seeing it in their myGarmin.com accounts.
Garmin is probably phasing in availability to balance load on their servers. |

P = Phonetics for the speech recognition, HT = Historic Traffic 2D = 2D landmarks, 3DB = 3D Buildings
Still some others in your list without explanation. |

I have the 2460 and on the mygarmin page under manage maps it shows the above message. I know JV means junction view but what do the other abbreviations (G&N)+HT+PA+P mean? |

The tools for converting formats are readily available.
From this site: http://www.anpo.republika.pl/download.html
Download gmt v0.4.2a, extract the contents of the zip of a folder
(Although the site is in Polish, some other useful tools include wNutrak v0.18, which converts the raw gps.bin logs into mapsource readable .gpx file. There are other tools for making custom mapsets, but i'm not familiar with the rest)
Next, unzip the contents of the attached conversion.zip into the same folder. The batch files are already preset for the 2011.40 mapsets. When 2012.10 comes out, some minor changes will need to be done to both to reflect the new map (path changes, and several mapid lines in convert2.bat will need to be updated).
Copy everything from this folder to clip board, then double click on the shortcut to maps (conversion process is executed AFTER installation of the map update), then paste.
I normally run convert.bat from an administrator level dos command line, but you should be able to just as easily right click, run as admin from windows too.
When done, you will have two sets of maps, the original in C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps (may differ slightly if using win xp), and the converted set specified in the batch file (c:\garmin\CNNANT2011.40). In addition, registry (both 32 and 64 bit) will be updated to reflect the new map locations. The original can be safely removed.
Finally, the converted maps will still be locked. Log into my.garmin.com, under the map details to locate your 25 digit map unlock code In mapsource 6.13.7, ctrl-u to start the unlock wizard.
Information above was gathered from elsewhere on this site.
Looks like I can't attach files to this posting, so get the batch files here:

Posted - 23 mars 2011 : 01:46:13 I figured out why I could not complete a download - my firewall was blocking the file. |

With a little elbow grease, this version still works well with mapsource 6.13.7. Useful for netbooks and for processing gpx files with way too many track points (raw logging enabled).
Do u have a link with instructions? Thx |

Posted - 23 févr. 2011 : 23:13:48 Finally managed to update the maps on my 1695 using my new laptop it seemed the updater was disconnecting my connection, putting back FireFox in "online mode" fixed it somehow, don't ask me why!
Installed Mapsource and Basecamp on this new laptop and was able to get some useful statistical data on my week-end trips ;-) |
