Unlock for GPS/PNA devices running Windows CE

Download: MultiUpload

Old Releases: R1

What is MioPocket Mini?
MioPocket Mini (MEE-oh-pok-it Mih-nee), like the full MioPocket, is an "unlock" for GPS devices (aka PNAs) running Windows CE. Such devices almost always boot into the manufacturer's software with no way to exit it, meaning that you cannot run any other software; i.e. the device is "locked." Unlocking your device allows you to use it for more than the manufacturer intended (ex. for music, movies, other navigation apps, etc.). What MioPocket Mini is not is a replacement for MioMap, Mobile Navigator or any other OEM navigation software. It is just a frontend from which you may launch the navigation software that comes with your device or that you purchase separately.

How does MioPocket Mini differ from MioPocket?
MioPocket Mini is a stripped down version of MioPocket. It differs from the full MioPocket in the following ways:

* A majority of apps were removed. Left in were a few essential apps, like the video player, music player, image viewer, calculator and so on.
* Most DLLs were removed. This means that you'll have more trouble getting apps that you add, yourself, to work... but, if you plan on doing much of that, the full MioPocket would be better for you.
* Minimal system changes are made. This makes it safer, especially for no-name, Chinese devices.
* No soft reset is required after installation.
* The shell interface comes, by default, with much larger icons, fewer icons and fewer pages.

What devices does MioPocket Mini run on?
Technically, MioPocket Mini should run on any Windows CE-based device. Every device is slightly different, though, and due to the great many brands and configurations that are out there, the ease of installation and the number of apps and features that actually work will vary. Most major Windows CE-based GPS brands, such as Mio, Magellan, Navigon, Navman, Sanyo and Asus (as well as many other lesser brands, like Becker, Rightway, Insignia, Binatone, Medion, Nextar, Route 66 and Wayteq) have installation instructions in the Readme file. For brands that MioPocket Mini does not include specific instructions for, there are also some general instructions for SD-free installation on just about any device, but it's always a good idea to check around online (especially in the gpspassion.com forums) to see if and how others have done it. Note that MioPocket Mini installs exactly the same as MioPocket, so instructions for installing MioPocket will work with MioPocket Mini. Note, also, that TomTom and Garmin devices are Linux-based and, hence, MioPocket Mini (which is Windows CE-based) cannot run on them.

Does MioPocket Mini install to SD or to flash disk (SD-free)?
Both. You have the option of either. See the Readme file for instructions, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Which features make MioPocket Mini unique compared to other unlocks?
* Resolution independence. Will work with any resolution, from 320x240 to 800x480 and larger.
* Scroll through icons and pages of icons by swiping your finger, like with high-end smartphones (ex. the iPhone).
* Add/edit icons in seconds by tapping and holding on the screen.
* Fully customizable shell. Use your own image as wallpaper and change many other elements.
* Install to SD card or to internal flash drive (SD-free).
* Close or minimize any open application, even those without any way to do either.
* Bring up the keyboard (and do many other tasks) without closing or minimizing an application.
* Rotate the screen on-the-fly for apps that work better in portrait mode.
* Remote control your device from your Windows desktop.
* Access your device while connected to USB (no connection screen in the way).
* Access the start menu without displaying the taskbar.
* Skin the taskbar to look like XP Silver, XP Royale or Windows 7.
* Automatic registry importing. Just add your own .reg file to the Registry folder and it will be imported during installation.
* All of MioPocket's settings can be configured directly from a menu within MioPocket.
* Many more things...

For more information and answers to other questions, please read the whole Readme file.

Enjoy! Feedback is most welcome. If you have any problems or questions not answered in the Readme, feel free to ask here. If you need to upload a screenshot, use this link and the URL for the image will be http://www.gpspassion.com/upload2/<filename>

If you want some video to test the media player with, here's a zip with a few videos that I encoded at 480 pixels wide (on smaller displays, Media Player will scale) and in MP4 and DivX formats: MioPocket Sample Videos. FYI, I used Prism (an excellent, free converter for Windows) to convert them: http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/index.html
Another good, free converter is Handbrake, which works on Windows, MacOS and Linux: http://handbrake.fr/?article=download

Hi.
Long time haven't been here, but it seems like nothing much have changed...:)
I've got a little but very annoying problem with my device (Chinese WinCE 6.0 Embedded)
I've MP Mini up and running and everything works like a charm. Suddenly, I don't even know what caused it the screen went off every 5 sec or so if I don't touch it. This is especially annoying when navigating, and the screen is off. You have to touch it all time to keep it on - the safest thing to do while driving...
I tried to look in the Power Settings in the Control Panel, but couldn't find anything useful.
Any idea what may cause this trouble?

First of all, you are trying to run a cracked version of GarminXT (for PNA), this became obvious because you are speaking of "Garmin.exe" and a folder named "RunGMXT".

Secondly, because it's against the forum rules to treat illegal software-copies (cracked versions) here, you will NOT get any other help here at GpsPasSion regarding your issue.

I'll try to explain what happens. If opening WinCe I go to My Device/storage card/garmin/RunGMX/Garmin.exe and doble click, then next screen is WinCe desktop!! and device freezes. If: My Device/storage card/garmin/RunGMX/Garmin.exe doble click then nothing happens.
If open miopocket and change path for Garmin icon to My Device/storage card/garmin/RunGMX/Garmin.exe the next screen is WinCe deskstop and next is miopocket first icons screen. If path is My Device/storage card/garmin/RunGMX/Garmin.exe after a few seconds next screen is miopocket first icons screen.
Any suggestion should be great! thanks

Thanks!! well, copy and paste is one of my skills, but, copy and paste where? Do I have to open GarminLauncher.mscr? which edition programm have to try or, how do I open it? After opening erase previous content and then copy paste? Thanks again and sorry, I'm a pre-beginner!!
jwoegerbauer Posted - 26 mai 2012 : 17:36:18
@enetilah,
1. ExeCheck and other CE utilities don't work under CE 6.0, they are made for CE 4.2 and/or CE 5.0. Hence forget trying to run them.
2. Concerning script Garmin launcher: Ever heard something about copy and paste?
enetilah Posted - 26 mai 2012 : 15:21:26
Hi, well...I installed miopocket full and Garmin does not work to.
And when i touch exe check I have a message about serious error, exe check shuts down and goes back to icons screen.
Could you please tell me what I have to do. I installed full miopocket but I did not erase any folder of previous minimiopocket.
Thanks
enetilah Posted - 26 mai 2012 : 14:43:53
Thank you very much! I wish I could make it, but I do not know how to write a script, but it's up to me.
