Posted - 19 juin 2012 : 16:52:50 Hi, friends,
I have Nexstar W3G-01 running CE core 5.0. I followed the posts to unlock the gps and installed the taskmanager. However, the taskmanager cannot be started in the gps (and I cannot hardreset the unit).
By Ceregeditor, I cannot soft-reset the unit either. Any suggestions appreciated. |

Posted - 25 mai 2011 : 22:22:14 anyone manage to get active sync working with nextar 43lt ? i'd like to edit the registry via my PC. |

Posted - 15 avr. 2011 : 10:00:48 Google for GPS Menu Pez. Plug your Nextar 43LT into a USB port then when it pops up the connect to computer or charge battery screen, tap connect then done.
Now you can edit the autorun.inf in the TFAT volume to point to menu.exe on the SD card instead of DShell. Power off and back on and you'll be running Menu Pez.
Some of the default things won't work because they're for the YF series GPS devices. You'll need to edit the ini files to remove them or redirect those icons to other programs.
Under tools, tap Windows CE then doubletap any blank area in the menu screen to get to the WinCE desktop. It's pretty bare bones and anything you put on it will get removed if you reset with the back switch.
So far I've not got Active Sync to detect it's connected. :( It also won't install cab files by doubletapping on them. I have yet to find any utility capable of rotating the screen to portrait mode to enable using the bajillion portrait mode Windows Mobile and Pocket PC apps.
MioPocket 4's latest release will run on this GPS, slowly. Unfortunately, most of the games that has are portrait mode. :P I didn't try redirecting autorun.inf to directly launch MioPocket, I changed the navigation link in DShell to it, so DShell was still in RAM and appeared to be causing some interference with MioPocket.
A word of warning on this model! It's highly likely that removing the SD card, making changes to it with another device (like your computer) then reinserting it and turning on the GPS *without moving the switch to reset then to onoff* will corrupt files or folders on the SD card, requiring reformatting the card to get rid of them. (Windows *loves* corrupted folders so much that that is 99% of the time the only way to delete them.) Once it completely nuked the card's directory so it appeared to be empty.
So if you're experiencing such weirdness as vanishing files, you'll have to remember to move the switch to Reset, insert the card, *then* move the switch to ONOFF. |

Posted - 09 avr. 2010 : 07:53:54 Hi, First off, thanks Spz0 for all your work and info. Now, I have a Q4-01 MFG in Jan 2009 with xtyler92's unlock running "other" gps software(don't know if that matters or not). When I try to bring the desktop forward via CEDesktop, it doesn't work for me. I follow your steps in your last post. I get to the last step, clicking on the navi button (again) to load CEDesktop, and I get the loading bar with the nextar backgroud. There it sits. I left it "loading" for a while with no luck. I am not saying your steps are wrong, just wondering if you had any other tricks up your sleeve.
Anyone else with any info, it would be greatly appecitated.
Thank you in advance. |

Posted - 24 mars 2010 : 23:59:52 First, I"ll say that the above unlock that I posted is compatible. Just change your autorun.ini to point to the corresponding .exe listed in the instructions, and you're good to go.
Now, on to bigger things. :)
Need I say this is for Educational Purposes only, and I take no responsibility for anything!! This has only been tested on a Nextar Q4-01!!!
While searching through the windows core files, I stumbled across an interesting BMP file. Named Mesada.BMP. wtf you say? Its a nextar device? Thats what I said anyhow. lol So I started on the Mesada trail, and have unlocked at least the windows desktop (although this process must be completed each boot.).
Firstly you'll need a few programs PNADesktop.exe TaskMgr.exe CEDesktop.exe
Files located here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V0TX58NZ
Obviously you also must have MS ActiveSync installed. PNADesktop is used to basically to bring the Windows Taskbar Forward for use. CEDesktop is used to show the windows desktop. CEDesktop used on its own will only bring up windows explorer. It will not bring the desktop forward, or expose the taskbar, so thats why we are using PNADesktop.exe in conjunction with it. TaskMgr is the Windows TaskManager.
--First, Create a folder called "Apps" in your flash ("ResidentFlash" for Nextar) and copy these 3 files there --Next, change your autorun.ini file to point to "ResidentFlash\Apps\CEDesktop.exe" --Reboot --Nextar Navi menu loads up, click the "Navigator" icon. --This will load up windows explorer. --Navigate to "ResidentFlash/Apps" and run "PNADesktop.exe" --Then run "TaskMgr.exe" --Kill the "PNADesktop.exe" process through taskmgr.exe. --Close TaskMgr --Close Windows explorer --Now you're back to the nextar Navi menu. --Hit the "Navigator" icon again. --You're now in Windows CE Desktop.
The taskbar is set to hidden, so just tap the very bottom of the screen and it will show up.
You'll notice that "Launcher" is active in your taskbar. That is the Nextar Navi program. You can kill that process through taskmgr if you want (the process will end, although the tab will still remain in the taskbar [unknown])
This is a major step in unlocking this device. My next task is to find this elusive "Launch.exe" program, and try to find a way to unlock the read-only aspect of this device, so settings (such as desktop icons, registry settings, etc...) can be saved, instead of being flashed every reboot.
Anyone who wishes to join in is more than welcome. I could use any help I can get. Enjoy! |

Thanks in advance. :)

Posted - 23 févr. 2010 : 05:57:49 I have a Nextar Q4-01 that I bought at a local pawn shop. It did not come with a SD card. Does anyone have a copy of their sd card that they can email me so that I can copy onto a blank one and be able to use this. Thanks for your help.

Posted - 03 déc. 2009 : 16:07:33 First, let me say a big THANK YOU for the information already provided in this thread. It made a $35 thrift-store purchase really worth the money.
Second, let me identify exactly what I have, both for those that might offer advice, and for those looking for information.
I have a Nextar M3-06, manufacture date on box September 2008. It is running Windows CE 5, and has an Odyssey navigtation system. I have followed the instructions above, to some degree, and am able to get to the Windows CE environment by pressing the "PHOTO" icon. (A small change to the original instructions.)
Using ActiveSync, which was already installed on my computer for my Dell Pocket PCs, I was able to install two different GPS programs within the CE environment. I installed Microsoft Pocket Streets and Beeline GPS - both of which were able to find and utilize the GPS receiver on COM7. I assigned the "MUSIC" button on the original splash screen to start BeelineGPS (which is a Geocaching program that not only guides you to the cache using the coordinates, but also is supposed to display information about the cache itself - I assume in an Internet Explorer window.)
Now for my big question: In the Windows CE environment, there is no Internet Explorer. I'm sure it isn't something that the Nextar/Navteq software needs in order to run, however - Beeline GPS has a function to call up individual information on Geocaches - which would normally display in an P(ocket)I(nternet)E(xplorer) window. I have tried installing various non-Microsoft browsers with varying degrees of success - NONE of them, however, are called to open the Beeline GPS information - it just takes me to a file explorer window.
Any idea how I might get Internet Explorer or some sort of browser into the Windows CE environment AND MOST IMPORTANTLY set it as a default application to open any calls for an HTML/HTM reader/browser?
Thanks, and I hope I was clear as to what I'm trying to achieve!!
Happy Holidays!
