UPDATED BY GPSPASSION 20100506 : I went to the nuvi 37xx launch in Paris today, and although I must admit I had my doubts when it was announced in April, after using it for a few minutes, it's safe to say this new nuvi is all that is cracked up to be and more! Faster, brighter, lighter for a start. More details on page 5 with a video to show the vastly improved speed.

Original post by D.Dimov : Today Garmin announced Nuvi 3700 models iPhone-Look nuvis, 3D view, accelerometer, new features:

Article on twice.com

Here is a side by side comparison of the 3 models from the Garmin website : >> LINK <<. Also each model now has it's own webpage with full specs, in the box, etc.:

Hi,

I have multiple subscriptions on my receiver and it switch to alternate provider when I drive out of region covered by both services. I am living in Europe and this behavior is standard behavior in France, Belgium and Germany where, depending on area none, one or multiple providers send local Info Traffic.
I have already used several GARMIN GPS and all have had this standard behavior, all are switching to alternate providers when needed. This is the standard behavior in the AUTOMATIC MODE (default mode of the receiver – see Info Traffic setup menu).
But, depending of the receiver model, the number of memorized senders in the list, reception signal and coverage, the process of switching may take several minutes.

The only reason I see in your case is that despite of TTN has been down for days, the RDS emitters have not stopped sending RDS-TMC flag signal, that makes the receiver to stay tune on one specific TTN channel emitter and waiting for actual TMC message contents that never arrive.

Time to time I encounter such an issue, that is easy to solve by removing the 'Automatic' mode in the receiver setup menu. If the alternative provider is already listed you may simply have to select it directly which may force your receiver to tune on the NavTeq Channel.
If no entry for the alternate provider are present, try catching it by manually activate a SEARCH. Clearing the 'Emitter List' may help by removing obsolete or inactive emitter frequencies from the database.

But remember, in automatic mode, the switching process may take several minutes especially when moving.
An alternate provider can’t be selected before at least one of its emitter have been already received and is displayed in the active list of the Info-Traffic setup menu. So, a good practice is to keep your GPS on when in a region you know the NavTeq service is present to be sure that your receiver records all the available frequencies for this specific provider. Here in Europe, due to RDS norm and standard, complete list of alternate emitters is only emitted 3 to 5 time per hour.

Two Traffic Subscriptions No Data

I have a 3790LMT with software v4.90 and two GTM 35 traffic cables. Both cables have two subscriptions Navteq and Clear Channel TTN.

In my area, Ottawa, Ontario both Navteq and Clear Channel provide traffic coverage. My receiver normally stays locked on the TTN broadcast. However TTN is quite unreliable. TTN has been down in April, June and July. Each outage lasts for weeks at a time. During these periods I am completely without traffic data. That is the GTM fails to fall back to the Navteq subscription. Both cables behave the same way. As soon as I add the second TTN subscription to a Navteq cable the cable from then on behaves as a TTN only cable.

If the cable was working correctly I would probably not even be aware of these TTN outages since the cable would switch to Navteq and I should continue to receive traffic data.

This problem is currently resting with Garmin.

I have had my GPS for two years and I am certain that the traffic receiver has never worked correctly.

Is there anyone with two subscriptions who knows for a fact that their receiver will switch to the second provider if data becomes unavailable from the first?

I'm sorry, but that that was a typo in my post above...

What I meant to write was turn a track into a MAP. Those two programs will take your track file and turn them into a transparent map that can be displayed on top of your City Navigator map. I think they will do exactly what you want.

Thanks Boyd,
I have not had the time today to look into these solutions, but am looking forward to it.

To be clear: I do not want to turn a track into a route, just transfer a track to be a track on the unit.

Again, Thank you one and all! I will keep you posted.

Those are all great software packages for making maps, but maybe more than you would want to get involved with. I have not used it myself, but this looks like a very simple solution that would let you turn a track into a map: http://www.gpx2img.com/

JaVaWa, who has some other really handy programs, also has something similar: http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html

Regarding "old style units" without fancy screens and graphics.... I got a 3790 shortly after it was released and really liked it too. But that was before I got my Montana 600. Now it has been months since I've even turned the 3790 on. I use the Montana for everything - in the car and on foot. It isn't cheap, but it would give you many advanced features not available on any other Garmin device.

You should gather some tools and find how to use them. See for example:
MapTK http://www.maptk.dnsalias.com/
MapEDit http://www.geopainting.com/
cgpsmapper http://cgpsmapper.com/buy.htm

These tools are for editing and compiling Garmin maps. Tracks in gpx format can be imported and changed to source for a map, then compiled and installed in nuvi. Probably there are easier tools designed for gpx tracks, but I haven't used them.
NE Map Man Posted - 21 avr. 2012 : 01:45:32
sussamb, It will be too hard to go back to the old style units without the fancy screen & graphics. I may have to do without the Tracks.

Popej, How does that work?
popej Posted - 21 avr. 2012 : 01:27:13
You can convert traces to a map. This would need some learning, but should work for nuvi.
sussamb Posted - 21 avr. 2012 : 00:30:02
Yes, the units used for hiking etc. I can't see them changing it, all the recent nuvis work that way, sorry.
NE Map Man Posted - 21 avr. 2012 : 00:00:46
Thanks sussamb,
Is that the final answer? There is no access to a system folder or some secrete back door?

What are you referring to when you say "Handhelds" - the units used for hiking?

That's a bummer! Maybe they will change it like they did the Route (Trips) transfer ability.
sussamb Posted - 20 avr. 2012 : 23:49:21
Sorry, but you can't transfer tracks to the nuvis. Well you could, but your nuvi isn't capable of displaying them. If that is important to you the handhelds will accept and display tracks.

Over the past year I have been using a Nuvi 3790LMT for work to manage hundreds of properties & construction sites I visit. Primarily I use Waypoints & Routes, but recently I have found that the "Tracks" tool would serve me well if they could be transferred from my desktop MapSource to the 3790. I want the Track line to show up on the 3790 screen - I don't want to make a Route out of it & I don't want to use it as a Route - Just the Track line. I had some older Garmins that used to do the Track Transfer, if I remember well.

Can this be done? They don't seem to transfer the same as the waypoints do. Any help or ideas?

I have contacted Garman Support and they are thinking that I want the Track to be a route, even though I tell them I want a Track transfer to the unit to remain a Track. I do transfer routes now that the unit software upgrade will do this, which is a big help.

I have tried hooking the 3790 to the computer & manually looking into the "Current.gpx" file and even tried copying to the gpx file a Track (after opening it with "Notepad"). I could do this with a Waypoint but not a Track. It resets after I unplug the unit and turn it on. The Waypoint shows up but not the Track. (I don't use Notepad to transfer Waypoints, just wanted to see if it would work.)

Maybe you have covered this in past post.

Thank you.

Thought it had its own topic but I'm not finding it right now, so here goes, v4.80 was released in February : http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=5063

Changes made from version 4.70 to 4.80:

Updated to comply with France Safety Camera decree.
Fixed a bug that caused the device to lose turn information while recalculating a route when near a junction.
Fixed a bug that caused the unit to freeze when receiving traffic information from a GTM36 cable.

The name Mark Rejhon sounds VERY familiar to me...I just can't place it

EDIT: and it wasn't from Blackberry forums either...probably in the 80's...Commodore 64 or Atari 8-bit, maybe?

Hello...

I have a nuvi 3760T, which I use with Ecoroute HD.
I love it, but there are two major problems:

- GPS lock speed is horribly slower than it used to in urban canyons. I firmware upgraded to 4.30 (from I believe some version of 2.x) and it seems to have poorer GPS lock. It often takes 5 minutes to lock onto GPS in downtown Toronto on the same routes, where it previously took only 1 minutes. That is cold boot, after a week of storage. That said, I often turn it on in the underground garage and as soon as I drive out, 1 to 2 minute later it locks on. But right now it's taking 5 minutes or so to get a GPS lock! That then makes it faster for me to pull over, lock onto GPS on my BlackBerry and use Google Maps. In an attmept to speed things up, I've tried to refrain from turning on the GPS until out of the parking garage, but it doesn't seem to help.

- The EcorouteHD is making wrong estimates of my gas efficiency on my Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS. It's approximately 3x off. Often, once in a while it says "New vehicle detected" when I have actually never switched vehicles. (This also happened with both the older and newer firmware versions). How do I recalibrate the EcorouteHD to report correct MPG or L/100km information? It's displaying the gauges well and accurately, so it's successfully communicating to my car's engine computer through the EcorouteHD (Bluetooth OBD2 connector) but it says 20L/100km when I'm actually doing about 7L/100km, it appears to be accurately relative (goes up and down as I accelerates and coast) as if it was simply using too high a multiplier for some engine data. If you use an EcorouteHD, How do I recalibrate this?

I remember you as a BB forums moderator when I joined years ago Mark...how have you been?
