Posted - 31 mai 2010 : 03:21:37 I have two Dell Portables (D800 & D830) that I try to keep equally up to date (to use as backup).
After updating MapSource and Nuvi 755 on D830, I moved the garmin_mu_cnnant2011_10.exe (217 GB) over to the D800 and when I opened it, it connected to Garmin.com and then wanted Nuvi 755 connected as well, so it went through pretty much the same procedure (less a download) to install 2011.10 to MapSource on D800, including going through the motions of Nuvi install, although nothing changed on the Nuvi.
So, it may need to see your GPS connected to your PC in order to unlock the map in your MapSource.
As far as your 'memory-short' 278, this is all the more reason to be sure and load the entire set to your MapSource, that way you have the ability to load those extra MapSets to the 278 when needed.
My 2011.10 loaded on MapSource with an extra (over 2010.40) 12 MapSets now covering all of Mexico as well as Cayman Islands and Bahamas. (Both my Nuvi 755 and nuMaps Lifetime have printed all over them that coverage is just US 50 States & PR along with Canada, no Mexico.)
These were not installed on Nuvi 755, but MapSource was able to add the 12 MapSets to Nuvi's internal memory (still less than half full). |

Posted - 30 mai 2010 : 22:30:09 @ ST-Bob Thanks for the quick answer (and providing me with the reason for why I didn’t get MapSource updated through my first update session).
However I did run the Garmin up-date procedure once again. I went into the advanced option and selected "only up-date the computer map application software” (i.e. MapSource). Waited for the procedure to complete once more (this time approx.: 2 1/2 hour => ... slightly longer than the first update covering only the “unit update”), and the result was still negative! The CNEU NT 2011.10 was not available (for unlocking) in the “maplist” inside MapSource. So I guess the routine didn’t work (as it should/was expected). The nuvi 765t still OK with the CNEU NT 2011.10 onboard, - so that’s OK. - Any ideas/suggestions (… I am puzzled). Maybe it’s not possible to “repair” for the first update session’s, - erratic selection of only updating “the unit”?
I think I will concentrate instead, - to check mark “the complete update option” when I will up-date my GPSMap278 (… I have a “nuvi life time up-date” for that unit as well) and hope that I then will have my MapSource S/W updated.
Finally I have my travel netbook (with MapSource installed) which also needs to be updated with the new version of CN. => One really consume a lot of up-date time when hooked-up with Garmin GPS:es [;-)]. Who knows, - Garmin might have a new version of CN released -, before I am done with CNEU NT 2011.10!
Note [re: the GPSMap 278 internal memory capacity vs CN map-data GB]: I guess that I probably will discover that I have a too small internal memory for the complete CNEU NT 2011.10 (all regions) in the GPSMap 278 (?) when I update it, - and I will have to drop out some European regions/countries to get in onboard (=> that’s what I have heard in another forum). Any knowledge/verification concerning this?
Thanks again |

Posted - 30 mai 2010 : 16:17:13 This maybe related to the information in this thread:
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=135506
As suggested there, this maybe a move away from Mapsource and towards the use of Garmin's Basecamp software. |

Posted - 30 mai 2010 : 16:14:30 You must use the advanced option in the setup menu to enable updating the PC. The default is to update the GPS only. |

Posted - 30 mai 2010 : 15:14:08 Problem with Garmin update feature (MapSource not update?)
Background: I have used my "nuvi life time up-date", - which I purchased recently to up-date the preinstalled CityNavigator Europe NT-map in my nuvi765t. I have Garmin MapSource installed (and updated to last S/W-version: 6.16.1) on my PC. I have done a successful update via the "My Garmin-page/functions" in the past (the unit is registered and I am familiar with the procedure etc.).
The updating procedure worked without any "hick-ups", - and I have my nuvi 765t successfully up-dated with CityNavigator Europe NT, All regions 2011.10 onboard [=> checked on the device OK].
Problem: The CityNav Europe NT, All regions 2011.10 Map is not available as a Map-set in MapSource on my PC (... only the previous CNEU NT 2010.20 available). Why was MapSource not up-dated during the update process? In the past the MapSource maps were included/updated during the update process (... you only had to un-lock them). What has changed in the up-date process? What should I do, - to have the CityNav Europe NT, All regions 2011.10 available in my MapSource application (... I know that I am entitled to it)? - Any hints or answers, please. / Thanks

Posted - 22 mai 2010 : 14:25:13 Rick, Thanks. Yes, I checked and the European map 2010.10 is on my GPS and has a tick mark along with the North American map. After I download the newer version that Garmin sent me (2011.10b) on to my computer, I tried to install it but it issued an error message that it cannot install the update because the previous map was not installed. I don't understand this because the map was installed on the same computer and transferred onto my GPS. Do you know what might be the problem? Thanks for your help. |

Posted - 21 mai 2010 : 16:05:13 One way to check to see if you have the maps available to you go to Tools - Settings - Maps - Info. All available maps will be listed there. The mapset with the tick mark beside it will be the maps the Nuvi is currently using. If no entry is checked or the checked entry isn't the Europe maps, tap the screen beside the map you want to use to add a tick mark and it will be used by the Nuvi.
The same process would be needed to use the maps on the SD card. I suspect that if you have a gmapsupp file on both the Nuvi and the SD card the map set name will appear twice in the Info listing. Not sure about that though. In any event you'd need to pick one or the other. |

Posted - 21 mai 2010 : 12:26:21 Hi NanaimoRick, Thanks. I got an email from Garmin and according to them the full European map (gmapsupp.img file) is approximately 1.72 GB. I can see that file with approx. 1.7Gb stored on my 765T so I guess I have the full european map on my 765T. Is there a way to check the european map while you are in the US? Just to be safe, I think I will have another copy on a SD card and bring it with me when I am in Europe, just to be sure. If you want to have your Garmin using the map on the SD card, is it simply inserting the SD card and the GPS unit will recognize and use it, or you have to do something else to get it to use the map on the SD card? Thanks for your help. As for the map update, Garmin also gave me access to the new 2011.10 b version. |

Posted - 21 mai 2010 : 09:35:13 Hi,
After the installation of the 2011-10 map update, the Lane Assistant/Junction View doesn't work anymore (again). I have now these files:: cneuro_2010_30.JCV D1281020A.sum D1281050A.JCV
What do I need to do in order to let it work again?

Posted - 20 mai 2010 : 15:47:43 You are only eligible for a 'free' update if a newer version of the maps which came preinstalled on your Nuvi was released within 60 days of you first getting a satellite lock. After that you would still see that an update was available but would have to pay for it. Note that if your purchased Nuvi came with City Navigator North America preinstalled then that is the version that you may be able to update for free within the 60 day period. If it came with CN Europe preinstalled then that would be the eligible update path. You would never be eligible for a free update of Europe maps on a North American Nuvi version or vice versa.
If you have a North American 765T then there is not enough space to store the Europe maps on the unit itself without deleting the North America maps first. You should be able to store all of the Europe maps on a SD card but I would recommend at least a 4GB card as I believe that the full Europe maps are now over 2GB in total size. |

Posted - 20 mai 2010 : 13:01:06 Hi, I bought the NT European map but version 2010. I installed it but must have missed the step where Garmin would allow you to update to the new version 2011. I have contacted Garmin but just in case some of you know the steps to update to the newer version, please let me know. Note that I registered my product with Garmin and they allow me to update online to the newer version but have to pay. I think I am allowed a one-time free update. Also, on Mapinstall, I right click outside the european region (top left corner) and dragged to the lower right corner to select all of european countries. However, when I went to check the map info. on my 765T, I noticed that the countries listed are Tirane, Shqiperia, Graz, Osterreich, Sankt Polten; which led me to believe that I may not have selected and transferred all european countries. How I can make sure to select all of Europe and copy onto my GPS or SD card? Currently, the european map is stored on the internal memory of my 765T. The file size of all european countries must be large so my guess is that since I was able to store it on my 765T, I must have transferred only some countries, but not all of europe. If I want to transfer all europe to an SD card (2Gb is enough?), should I delete some files on my 765T? If so, which files should I delete? Thanks for your help.

Posted - 28 avr. 2010 : 20:33:16 No Mexico on the 2010.40 as I recall.
Since we have pretty much "hijacked" this thread which was set up for discussion of the 2011 Europe maps, I'd suggest that if you have further questions you open a new thread or join an existing one that pertains to your issue. I'll be glad to respond as well lots of others. Thanks |

Posted - 28 avr. 2010 : 19:38:32 Rick, Thank you for the links, I have now sent error reports to both sites.
When the Nüvi first arrived, I tried a download of a BlueChart, but then Nüvi would open with a "can't open map- [OK]".
Only way out was to then send a "Tides & Marine Service" map (NoSerial) alone and this deleted the BlueChart.
There seems to be no way to see "Tides..." on Nüvi, even on GPS V it only shows Marine Business and the handy Tide Calculator (to year 2040) only functions within MapSource Program on PC.
I have read here that you can install BlueChart on a Second Garmin, but I will hold that for the possibility of an eBay buy of a Marine Garmin with a larger Color Chart than the GPS V. I had purchased my unlock code for the South West Florida Coast on the GPS V in 2003, now will Garmin still issue me a second code?
My 60th Day for Map Update on the Nüvi was yesterday, but of course I had already used it for 2010.40, there was mention above on Mexico being included on 2011.10, would that apply to a Nüvi 755 which was factory loaded with US & Canada only? (Amazon says "Mexico coverage is not included.")

Well the first, and most important, thing you need to do is report the "iron gate" problem to Navteq and Garmin as it is a mapping error and really has nothing to do with the Nuvi or any other Garmin GPS that uses the Navteq maps. Unless someone reports the error and the fact that Oliver Lane is NOT a through road this situation will never get fixed unless someone from Navteq happens to drive down that road one day and runs into the gate. You can report the error to the map makers, Navteq, at http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submitDur.do?userType=CONSUMER&language=en and to Garmin at https://my.garmin.com/mapErrors/report.faces .
I know that Bluechart will run on the Nuvi but I believe without depth read outs and the Nuvi really doesn't like getting wet so be careful. I have no idea about City Select but I'm not sure why you'd need it with City Navigator preinstalled. You should be able to transfer track and waypoints to the Nuvi using Mapsource although there maybe some compatibility issues between how various devices store the data. Can't see any problem in giving it a try. |
