Posted - 14 juin 2010 : 15:23:39 On that DVD, you should find Garmin's MapSource Program, you first install MapSource (and if you go to Garmin Website, you will find the latest free program update which you should install).
Now you can use MapSource to install 2009 update to your 650, after that is done, you should go back to Garmin and reinstall 2011.10 on your 255, this time selecting the option to also install 2011 on your PC (it installs and can be run inside MapSource) and it can now be accessed for handy Route Planning in advance and possible download to your Nuvi's (Some Nuvi's receive Routes from PC and others don't, I just know that my 755 does).
I think you might have two weeks from your download install to your 255 to do it again, you will not be able to run 2011.10 maps on your 650 as they are copywrite keyed to just one Nuvi.
It was in MapSource that I found the Mexico, Cayman Islands and Bahamas coverage and it came in 12 MapSets that MapSource installed on my Nuvi 755. |

Posted - 14 juin 2010 : 05:13:14 I just got a 255 as a gift. Already had a 650 for a couple years. I finally got brave and updated to 2011! WOW very easy and smooth. It only took 45minutes. I have comcast cable. I wonder if I now have Mexico. How do I check?
Now for my old 650. When I first got it I got a free map upgrade so I bought the $10 DVD. But I never installed it. It sounded too complicated. Will I be able to use this new update process to install it? Or do I still need to use the old way? It is Map Update 2009. How do I do it? |

Posted - 11 juin 2010 : 03:29:54 Did Garmin change the way that they update maps. I just tried to apply this update to my 765 and it downloaded some stub installer that checks the Nuvi and downloads and applies a firmware update before downloading and installing the maps. Instead of getting "rmu_cnnant2011_10.exe", I ended up getting "garminmapupdater_naeu_a.exe" which contains the stub installer. After clicking through and starting the map download this is what the stub installer looks like: http://mysite.verizon.net/cshaines/images/garminupdate.gif
Anybody else notice this? I swear this is different from when I applied the same update to my MIL's 760 a couple of months ago. Is it different for the 765 or has Garmin changed the way the handle updates?

Posted - 06 juin 2010 : 15:58:04 Yes you can, and you've probably figured it out by now but just in case, the details on how to get the latest maps for free are discussed in the nuMaps guarantee topic http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?topic_id=116806 |

Posted - 11 mai 2010 : 22:17:29 I recently bought a Nuvi 855 from Amazon - for $150 how can one resist? It has installed City Navigator North America NT 2010.10, Deluxe JV, All Regions, Apr 09 but when I go to MyGarmin it says "No update available" Can't I get 2011.1 too? |

Posted - 08 mai 2010 : 19:38:25 Since I knew that I would eventually want a map update and 'Lifetime' is longer when bought sooner, I ordered it and Amazon's 'Free Delivery' took exactly one week.
The Download and installation was simple and completely painless; the 2.17 GB download took 1:45 on my middle speed CenturyLink's DSL line through my intel WiFi and complete install to my MapSource and Nuvi 755 took :25 minutes.
The file sizes within the Nuvi increased by 1,216 KB for the gmzpprom.img (1/10th%) and by 18,392 for gmap3d.img (13%).
Since my Nüvi 755's coverage never included Mexico; I was not surprised to see that 2011.10 did not install Mexico and it was printed right on the NüMaps Lifetime Card that "Coverage of Mexico Not Included".
However, looking into MapSource; unlike v2010.40, v2011.10 now had nine Map Sets to completely cover Mexico along with one for the Cayman Islands and two for the Bahamas (New Providence {Nassau} and Grand Bahama {Freeport}) 12 Maps-92.4 MB which could be downloaded into the Nuvi 755.
So now my Nuvi 755 has in Map Info:
[~] CN North America NT 2011.10 3D
[~] CN North America NT 2011.10
(1) CAYMAN ISLANDS, GRAND BAHAMA, NEW PROVIDENCE, SAN| (rest are off the screen)
(2) US & Canada |

Posted - 08 mai 2010 : 18:39:53 Just looking at MapSource in my (WinXP SP3) Add/Remove; the [Change/Remove] is one Radio Button while some other Programs show two [Change] or [Remove] buttons. A click on [Change/Remove] only started to uninstall the whole Program, where other Programs can be Modified or have portions uninstalled using [Change] button.
There were also three MapSource Programs listed below, Americas BlueChart, City Select North America v6 UpDate and City select North America v4.01 and one of those could be uninstalled, but no mention of CN NT North America 2010.40 or CN NT North America 2011.10 was seen.
So it looks like TI3000's folder removal recommendation may be the only way to free up space without removing MapSource, but I would first look in your 'Add or Remove Programs' to see if CN NT North America 20XX.X was offered.
BlueChart etc. are within MapSource's Program files and not in 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps' as TI3000 pointed out for the Nuvi Map Sets.

Posted - 06 mai 2010 : 00:04:01 I would be leery of just deleting folders. For one thing it leaves the Windows registry honked up. I have uninstalled several map versions, and have never lost MapSource. Maybe if you uninstall the only remaining map, it could affect MapSource. Don't know...

No, not the only way. Complete uninstall is done via 'Add or Remove Programs' in the 'Control Panel'--depending on the map version, the process may uninstall MapSource too. If you wish to just free up HDD space and remove from MapSource's mapset listing, then just delete the specific mapset folder(s):
in WinXP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps in Vista and Win7 - C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps\ |

Posted - 05 mai 2010 : 19:45:15 I need to duck that question and leave it for a Windows person. On a Mac you just go to where they are stored, in ~user/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Maps, and drag them to the trash.
I don't know if doing the same thing in Windows will cause MapSource or registry issues, however.

Posted - 05 mai 2010 : 18:34:13 I keep the previous version available in RoadTrip's pull-down menu so I can do quick comparisons, but this is hardly mandatory.

Posted - 05 mai 2010 : 18:25:44 I vote for - the last one is all you'd need. Not much point in taking up between 1 and 2GB of hard disk space for each of these files that you'll never use again. |

Posted - 05 mai 2010 : 18:03:54 Guys, stupid question-do you keep update files,downloaded from Garmin. i already have 6 updates.I think ,logically, i can just keep the last one.opinions? |
