Just got an interesting note from TomTom that apparently went out to everyone that signed up for the field test but wasn't chosen. If you're one of these people, you might want to check your mail.
Basically, they apologized for what happened, and ended the letter with this little tidbit:
"A lot is happening so please ”Stay tuned”. We have a special surprise for those who signed up; although you were not chosen this time around, you will not regret sending us your application."
I have to admit, my curiosity is piqued...
Kudos to TomTom for doing this - it's nice to see them attempting to rectify a situation that upset a lot of people. |

Sounds like you were notified that the test was over, and not "left out in the cold", that's maybe why you didn't get the offer.
I'm trying to clarify with them.

I sent in an application to participate as a beta tester but was told that they were no longer selecting applicants. Does anybody know how I can participate in the 50% discount on the TomTom release? I never received any follow up pdf or e-mail. |

I believe that the $224 includes the Tomtom software as well.

wow, that's a massive discount...that puts the software at the same price as the competition or just below ;-)
Who would have thought this, but the BT GPS is still more expensive than CoPilot's EMTAC now!

50% off is a pretty good offer for field test applicants. Oh well, I already bought iGuidance. The discount is good toward software only or software/hardware purchases.

Problem with TeleAtlas in Europe (or at least France) is that outside large towns, they've got tons of small rather useless outdated roads/trails it tries to route you through...In Brittany last week my wife threatened to step out of the car if I kept following the prompts of TomTom...one dirt road too many ;-) There were also real roads at least 5 years old that were missing.
NavTech on the other hand has fewer but more updated roads.
I've received my copy of TomTom USA and it didn't come up with the routes I was hoping for on my test routes. Need to look into this.

I suspect they'll release 2.22 as this was just made available for the European version.
It should be a hit, alhtouhg the map (TeleAtlas)/map management portion needs to be looked into.

Just a quick note I was one of the Beta Testers, and the field portion of the test ended over a week and a half ago. But I recently got a phone call from TomTom asking me for some final feedback because he told me they were tweaking the software right up to the last minute. From the conversation I got the feeling you should see it in another week to 10 days. Hope that helps.

I know that they are taking PREorders for TomTOm in the US, any idea when they will start to ship? Still waiting to hear what the "Surprise" is for all of us who were not seleceted for the testing stage. |
