Update via WebUpdater, details :

Type M: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3733
Type M2: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3735

No changelog for either is posted.

[ed]For reference the GPS chipsets used by Garmin are analyzed here on the portal : [GUIDE] GPS Chipsets used on Garmin GPS Systems. Type M and M2 are the same MTK 3318 (MTK v1) GPS chipset by Mediatek, first used on the eTrex Hcx series in the summer of 2007 and then on the nuvi 860, 765, 865, etc...

GPS Chipset type M HotFix Data is not referring to the Firmware, its referring to the fast signal-relock:
It's version 2.60 and was released July 15, 2010.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4109
Firmware is still 2.90 and is here offered.

Interesting, wonder if that would have bumped the version to 3.00 !

Visited WebUpdater prior to getting my 2011.20 nuMap update and it came up with this update to offer:
quote:
GPS Chipset type M HotFix Data
And lower panel says "No change history was found..."

The idea of "HotFix" makes me think 'beta' and my 755 amazes me with its speed in aquiring, even after flying it (turned off) 1,000 miles and turning it on, so I left that one back with the Thai Font and Monster Truck....

Does the rule "If it ain't broke..." apply to Nuvi's?

I think I just had a rare bad GPS SW update on my 755t (see prev post in this thread and stay away from MyDashboard). It was sent to Garmin today and I'll be happy when I get my replacement. (after 35 min waiting) Garmin support was nice but did not have any procedures to try other than the hard reset I already performed. They then emailed me a free shipping label.

Installed the updates on my 755T, and haven't noticed anything different. Good or bad.

You are of course correct. It's just that before when I did turn it on after moving I don't think it ever took this long. Not a big deal as I will turn it on while not moving as should be the case anyway.

With SIRF instant fix, i do not have any problem (long acquire time) while driving, if my unit has been powered on the day before. If I do wait some days, it can take long time to get fix on my 760

I have always experienced a long acquire time on several different GPS as SergZak mentioned when turning on the GPS while moving

That is interesting Tampa8. My experience on my 755T for acquisition speed is opposite yours. Before the update, it would usually be 15 or 20 seconds after I answered the "Agree" nag screen before the sat's were acquired. Since the update, I never see it acquiring. When I touch agree, I already have the 4 or 5 green bars on the satellite meter. I guess I haven't tried starting up while moving ... I will test that tomorrow. So far I haven't seen any significant difference in signal strength or accuracy.

After trying several times in several places, and after a hard reset, I still get one lower bar in places I know what I got in the past. Does not seem to affect the use of the GPS, and even with one less bar it says accuracy is 10FT.

However, it certainly takes longer to acquire satellites while the car is in motion if the GPS is turned on while moving than before. Today it did not acquire the lock at all until I stopped, after going about 3 miles. (3 1/2 minutes or so) I do not remember waiting for a long period before. But actual use is fine.

OK I've just accepted all three updates and I find my GPS S/W Version is now 2.90 and all seems fine.
Thanks again!

Yes, I would say go ahead and update, especially the GPS Chipset Type M

A note about the two text updates listed. If you hard-reset (or Clear all User Data) the unit, The next time you run WebUpdater, these two entries will likely again be listed so this seems to be the norm as far as these two specific updates are concerned. Seems as though their "updated" status is lost when performing the hard-reset.

Hard-reset info is here:

It's inaccurate, doesn't update what you'd expect it to be updating, doesn't give you a choice of what to update, doesn't tell you what's being updated and regardless of what it's "updating" (voices, etc.), it will always state that it's "updating firmware".

Just use WebUpdater and avoid the myDashboard garbage.

Thanks for that SergZak and another query if I may. Currently, WebUpdater is showing three updates in the upper pane of the final screen, viz;
1) GPS Chipset Type M
2) Text Proximity Alerts, All Languages
3) Traffic Text All Languages.

However, when I select (highlight) any of these entries the lower pane advises *No change history was found for this update*.
So my question is do you reckon I should go head and update or just ignore these? (I find it confusing that they should appear in the upper pane at all when the lower pane advises no update is available)!

On the firmware updates, Garmin usually posts the changes made. I do not see anything that lists changes made to this software and hotfix update. Am I missing a posting?
