Posted - 28 juil. 2009 : 06:00:39 I am in the midtst of a trip from Maryland to Indiana. During the last 30 miles of the trip my 265wt and several other folks in our caravan have had quite a number of occasions where the device went out-to-lunch and finally announced Poor Satellite Reception after acting erratic for awhile. I have my 650 with me and works fine. When I go to the screen showing what satellites are being received ofttimes the 265 will show 3 or 4 and the 650 will show over a dozen. What is the deal here? If the thing can't find satellites and older models can I have to wonder what is going on, that little flip-out antenna on the 650 (that is a weak point as it tends to result in an open circuit after constant flexing) can't improve reception that much. |

Posted - 07 nov. 2009 : 04:40:28 Re Oct 30 post. Did a hard reset complete with sitting unit with clear view of sky and have taken it on 1700 km trip through MN, WI, Mi and ON with a lot of rerouting and via points added and unit has not burped since. Notice it is very quick now to recalculate repeatedly when you pull off a guided route. The hard reset on the 255W w 5.70 firmware update DOES delete all user data, so backup if you want to save it. Also have to reset parameters - DON'T FORGET TO CHECK UNPAVED ROADS under NAVIGATION/TRAFFIC AVOIDANCES Did back up following forum instructions and rebuilt data without a hitch. Like this unit better all the time as I use it more. Really appreciate the help in the GpsPassion Forums |

Posted - 31 oct. 2009 : 15:31:35 I haven't experienced any trouble since the upgrade to 5.70 -- and I had a lot of no sats with the previous ver. |

Posted - 31 oct. 2009 : 05:02:15 Today, my 255 put me on a parallel street about 100m from my real track. It corrected eventually. I haven't had it melt down and fly off track since the downgrade/upgrade though. |

Posted - 30 oct. 2009 : 21:02:06 Found my 255W burped agin yesterday near Steinbach, MB. Same itermittent Lost/Gained Satellite signal as prior to 5.70. Finally lost completely. Shutdown, then held power switch in ON position till clear screen and released. Unit booted and 20 min later picked up sats and resumed normal operation. Anuone else getting burps? |

Posted - 24 oct. 2009 : 23:18:09 10' surprised the stuff outta me too; I doubt it is for real, but, it is a pretty good overall measure of signal quality being received. I was trying to get less than 10' as a little game while driving but never saw it. |

Well, after the firmware upgrade I haven't had any "burps" loosing satellites. I have see it go as tight as 10' accuracy, don't recall anything even close to that before.
I've never seen 10' accuracy. I'm lucky to get below 45' accuracy. |

Posted - 13 oct. 2009 : 12:49:19 I find my 255w still takes a long time to first sat fix. Yesterday it took almost 5 mins to find sats. I also found new issues w/ the map vs. directions, but that's another topic. |

Posted - 13 oct. 2009 : 05:29:26 Rick, The 265 doesn't exhibit it but many other models seem to still have "the lag problem" that did not use to exist in older firmware. Drives me nuts. |

Posted - 12 oct. 2009 : 06:46:56 Well *the* major thing Garmin has failed to fix, for years now and on every one of their GPSs that I've had, is the inconsistent and illogical street name display. For example, teeny tiny streets are labeled while major highways are left blank. As has been widely discussed here, this was not a major problem until the xx5 series eliminated the upcoming street in the green header bar.
Now, a final bit of news on 5.7: I was downtown tonight in the urban canyons of Chicago and I have to say that with 5.7 there was almost none of the usual confusion that occurred with previous releases when satellite signals bounce off a forest of tall buildings, causing the GPS to be almost useless.
Also, I-94 has reversible express lanes in and out of Chicago that are very close to the local lanes, close enough in fact for the 260W to be conflicted about whether it was in the express or local lanes. Previous to 5.7, it would always assume the local lanes. Tonight it correctly showed my car where it really was--the express lanes--and routed me appropriately. |

Out of interest, what major operational problem with any Nuvi model has Garmin not fixed?? |

Posted - 12 oct. 2009 : 04:02:20 Ok, overall it seems like a happy ending to this thread. Anyone out there with 5.7 and their 265 still "getting lost" ? If not I think we can call this one a wrap. Who'd a thunk Garmin would actually fix something. As much as I didn't like my Tom Tom 720 for it's bad mapping engine and bad maps I was starting to continue trying a TT again. |

Posted - 11 oct. 2009 : 18:47:36 Also, InstaFix now seems 100% instant; before, it was usually instant, but not always. (This after the unit being "off" for a day or two.) |

Posted - 11 oct. 2009 : 18:35:22 Seems to be getting 8-12 satellites most of the time, no weird "drive-aways" except maybe a little wandering at walking speeds when inside a building. The newer firmwares seem to be a little more "pinny" in that it likes to pin you on a nearby road, even when you are well inside a complex. You'd think with 4-10 metre accuracy, Garmin would have a little more faith in their product. Just a relatively minor nitpick, otherwise it's working great. |

Posted - 11 oct. 2009 : 16:55:11 A full week with 5.7 and no weirdness at all. Very quick GPS lock and solid signals.
Anyone else report any issues? |
