Hello,

If I remember well, in the last version (V1.31) the settings are saved to a file (Settings.dat). At least for the CE5 version.

If I use SirfTech I could enable even GSA and GSV sentences and after this I start the Primo using a script that is launching the port splitter first. But this application doesen't have the possibility to set NMEA message rate from command line, so I need after every restart of my device to set manually the new sentences.
Maybe I'm off-topic, but... do you think that is possile to implement in your port splitter the possibility to see and set the NMEA sentences... or something similar?
Thank you very much!

yes, sorry, this matter is totally off-topic. Portsplitter will redirect the traffic one-way over the input port with independance of the nature of data sent.
Maybe you can control SirfTech with some script to automate this task.

My only problem now is that the app doesn't start automatically on boot up with my unlock for my mio Visual.
With this unlock the port splitter app was already installed. Port Splitter V1.31
Once again I would like to thank you so much for this app! I really love how I can use my GPS apps now with help from Port Splitter.

I would like to ask you how to get the app lunched at startup.
I have a Mio Moov S505 GPS system with Visual unlock installed.

I hope you can help me with my problem

Kind regards,

This feature just copies the shortcut (Port Splitter.lnk) to \Windows\AutoStart

Maybe your device clear the content of \Windows\AutoStart at boot... and the shortcut is never called.

All,

I confirmed that the port named GPS1 on the device I was mentioning outputs NMEA data and so I would love to be able to redirect it to a more canonical port name. Any way to use ports that do not have a COM prefix as inputs for portsplitter?

A few years ago there was a user (Kuruto) with a similar problem, who wanted to use a FTD0: port as input, but I am not sure if his problem was ever solved.

Any advice?

Many thanks

When i connect my external Royaltek RTA-3000 TMC recevier is seems to connect on comm port 2 and it uses 9600 baud rate.
So therefore in iGO i cant get it to recognise the TMC receiver as the GPS receiver is using comm 2. When i disable the gps it finds the TMC on comm 2.
I tried port splitter to split the port but its seems i can only split the port with a specified baud rate. So when i split comm 2 to, say, 7 and 8 with 9600 baud rate, the gps receiver cannot be found anywhere. TMC is found. If i split it with 38400 baud rate, gps is found and tmc cant be found.

Is there a way to split the port and have it irrelevant of baud rate?
Or do you know of a way for me to achieve what i need to get the TMC and GPS working on my WinCE5 device?

Thanks

Hi JAL,
I have been using Port Splitter on a gps device running freecaddie (golf software). My device died and I got a replacement Chinese one running Wince6 but it does not have the capability of running .cab files.
I copied over the 'old files' from my previous device card and Port Splitter does run ..... but ... import port does not survive reboot.

I think this is due to the fact that the Com1 port is called YFCommux Com1: and rebooting changes this name to Com1 and that stops Port Splitter working and the work round is having to reconfigure both input and output ports each time I want to use it.

IS there a simple solution to this?

Thanks

Hi all,

wanted to check if anyone has a pointer for how to get around the following issue.
I've been tinkering with a rather old PNA (a Roadstar 400P to be precise) for some time to see if it could potentially run anything more modern than its original software which is quite dated.

The device itself runs Windows CE core 5.0, and the issue I am having is that third party applications do not like the way it exposes the built-in GPS receiver. It seems like it is not assigned to a COM port, but rather to the GPS1: device.

Having looked at a simple GPS test program that was included (.exe form only, so a hex dump basically) I have been led to believe that the GPS1: device actually outputs NMEA data so I am now thinking about solutions to take that data and replicate it onto a virtual COM port for the applications to use.

Port Splitter came to mind but it only likes COM ports as inputs - any alternatives I could look into, or has anyone seen similar situations in the past?

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers

It seems to be a known issue with Navigon devices that TMC will not work in Primo unless Port Splitter is used. I have downloaded and copied over the WinCE 5 version to my device.

Now comes my problem, Does anyone know what the Port Splitter settings should be to get TMC to work in Primo 1.2 on my Navigon device?

When I run Port Splitter I can see three Input ports (COM2:, Serial Cable on USP5 Atlas Debug, IrCOMM COM4:) and 7 output ports (0, 1, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9).

My Navigon device GPS is COM2:, Baud 57600. In one of the *xml files in my Navigon/Settings folder I found the following values for TMC COM5:, Baud 57600. Notice there is no COM5: listed in Port Splitter.

My initial trials seem to disable the GPS signal both with the Navigon and Primo software so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello,

I don't understand your problem.

PortSplitter was a program useful for Windows Mobile 2003, due to the absence in this system of the "GPS Intermediate Driver" (GPSID) introduced with Windows Mobile 5. As WM2003, Windows CE 5.0 does not have the GPSID.

Additionaly, even with GPSID present in WM5 and WM6, some programs seems to works only if PortSplitter acts as bridge between the GPS and the end program (due to an incomplete managing of GPS reading in the end program). This problem would be apply for any system.

Hello Jal,

Is it possible to define the input port as a virtual TCP/IP or ActiveSync port and output port mapped to a free COM port?
I would like to use the PC as a NMEA generator for testing applications on the Mio M400(no BT or WiFi, USB only).

thx,

SO it was a bug, huh? Who would know. Tnx for fast response!

Which version should i download that would work on WinCE 4.2. Ive downloaded CE5_ARM.CAB, had to extract it (CE on PNA is heavily severed with functions), and now when i try to run it from explorer.exe it says cannot find port splitter or components... registry settings are good as i see them
Which components are necessary besides:
extvsplit.dll
AYGSHELL.DLL
COREDLL.DLL
and COMMCTRL.DLL?

SOLVED: Used the PocketPC version, works like a charm. Jaluna, u saved my day!

Port splitter is v 1.45, so i was thinking, could i ask u for an older version, maybe newer versions have issues with CE 4.2. Maybe some which doesnt use registry to write settings?

Any suggestions?

The Spirit has a TMC port that is running on COM1 with 14400 bouts, could i use portsplitter to make a virtual port so that, for example IGO could use the TMC with a different bautrate then 14400 (IGO does not like 14400, it will not nativly detect my TMC)

With Tomtom Navigator everything is ok, but you must use mortscript to kill or stop portsplitter to save batterie (indeed you could do this manually by closing portsplitter).

Can you make portsplitter to run as a "service" like this one :

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571266

With this one everything is automated the driver is actived only when required.

btw IMO portsplitter is much better because it uses less CPU load than gpsmoddriver

Thanks in advance.

Do you means that portsplitter once stopped, still load much the battery??

GpsModDriver isn't a port-splitter, it's a filter! But it's output-port (default: COM3) is a software-port, thus this port can be read by several navigation apps simultanously ( If that's really needed ).

THX for your quick answer. My question is: What action is taken by PortSplitter app if I press button "Stop splitter" , i.e. are reg entries get re-written to device's defaults?

The output ports are unloaded from memory, but the registry is not restored to default. However, in mostly CE devices the whole registry is restored to default when power-off the device.

"Portsplitter" is comprised of two modules: PORT SPLITTER.EXE and EXTVSPLIT.DLL. Both are installed in the same folder.

The required Windows libraries are:

AYGSHELL.DLL
COREDLL.DLL
COMMCTRL.DLL

For the case where not keyboard is available try to install one. If cannot, you can try to autostart portsplitter by writing the configuration to settings file. See previous post about the settings file.

Hello, Jal!

I am trying to install Garmin XT in my GPS device Bak Japan 5002. I've tried almost everything, with little or no success. When I installed the version 1.20 of your program, I learned that all ports are busy. But I learned that I need to split Com0, currently used by IGo.

I've tried to do so by editing a .mscr. It does not work. And the same happens with the keyboard of WinCe, so I cannot type the port I need in Port Splitter!

To free some ports, I have tried to install DeviceX, also with no success. I've tried to kill some programs, but the version of WinCe 5.0 in my device restart them automatically!

And to turn things dramatically, I really do not understand what I am doing: my knowledge of OS or software is rare! I am learning "in the move".

I download the last version of your Port splitter, but the program does not run! Would you please inform me the dll that port splitter needs?

Many thanks in advance,

H. Bueno

Hello JALUNA,

My problem is almost similar to TBL's: my navigation device (winCE5)has com port 7, and, as there is no keyboard, I don't know how to get the entry under input port. Also I don't have active sync.
Maybe You or someone else have a solution, can You please tell step by step?
Thank You for Your help!

Hello TBL,

for the port choice, you can type directly with the keyboard COM3 under input port.

For installing porstplitter you need to copy the dll also (not only the exe!!)

I hope this helps you.

Hi Carver!!
I really can´t open the Splitter without open Explorer first.
I solved this problem opening a message box after to open explorer. So the user can´t see that the explorer had been opened. So my program first of all open explorer, and then open the message box and then open the spliter using the saved settings (using the setting.dat file) and at last I open the navigator. By this way I can "silently" use the splitter...

yes, at my SiRFtitan/WinCE5 (pioneer f900bt)

Port Splitter also need start Explorer before.

There are not bat file, there are a cab file. These entries are added during installation

HKLM,Software\JAL\%AppName%,MajorVersion,0x00010001,1
HKLM,Software\JAL\%AppName%,InstallPath,0x00000000,%InstallDir%

not however, these entries are not used (are inherited from the Mobile version, you can remove it)

The current version will not run silently, changes will need required for parsing the argument, for example. You can launch and minimize (using Ok) from your script. Also, using the autostart option you can load the saved setting and start the splitter in one call.

Hello Jaluna, I tried, but cannot run/install CABs and have no ActiveSync, so I'm looking for a copy and run kind of stuff. Installer doesn't work unfortunately :( Is this a no go, or is there a way to make your useful program run?

Thanks a lot

Then uncompress the cab file that is just compressed format...

Hi rodrigo_such,

here are an example running portsplitter with Mortscript

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR4EyerxRl8

However, I have not idea about this script language but other users of this same post yes. You can see previuos messages.

Settings.dat store all the configuration, the CE version don't use the registry for this purpose.

You can use portsplitter freely, but I don't know the difference with Eltima one because I don't tested this later.

4- I´m trying to run the splitter with mort script, using the "Run" command. The problem is that It only works if I run the WinCE Explorer before to run the Splitter. I can´t open spliter only. Is it normal??There is any solution??

Tank you again.

Hi,

I have an issue where my gps receiver is on comm port 2 with baud rate 38400.

Thanks

Hi Howell,

what sense have to use Port Splitter under Mobile 5 or 6? You already can open the virtual port (GDP) from several programs.

That's perfectly valid, portsplitter cannot open a port that already was opened previously by other application.

I'm not sure why 3dtracking (free.3dtracking.net) is not able to work with port splitter on my iPaq h4150. I've tried port splitter on gpsproxy and found it no problem. Any idea?

Hello Jal,

thank you very much for Portsplitter and for your support here!!!
I have been testing it since yesterday on my Omnia i900 (WM 6.1).
It works fine (very quick gps fix!) with two exeptions.

1. Input-Port dropdown menu shows only "VirtCom Com9" and "Serial2 Com5". But there is more, for example my used Com3. I had to write it manually.
2. After a restart (before finished with "Exit") of the Portsplitter or my Omnia my settings are lost and I have to configure Portsplitter again.

The point 2 was mentioned here but unfortunately never solved.
I installed it on the internal memory and (after uninstalling) also on the microSD, always the same. I hope you can help!

kind regards,
Memo

@Spindoctors:
It works with Inputport = com3 (look at your system: System->Settings-> ...GPS-> Program (first page)). In my case it was not possible to chose it from the dropdown menu and I had to write into the field manually.
I hope it helps.

AFAIK Wherigo uses the WINAPI, and was not configurable to use a COM port
but if GPSgate works. Hmm?

You don't need port splitter for Omnia.

Everything works fine without it.

1. Install Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.20w ( https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsAgree.jsp?id=3389&product=010-11034-00&cID=138&pID=11413 )
2. Install Support Files ( https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsAgree.jsp?id=3493&product=010-11034-00&cID=138&pID=11413 )
3. Install Base Map ( https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downloadsAgree.jsp?id=3645&product=010-11034-00&cID=138&pID=11413 )
4. Download keygen v1.5 and generate SW.UNL key and copy SW.UNL licence file into Garmin folder.
5. Download maps Garmin maps and then use keygen again to generate key for them.

. . .

Good luck ;)

On my WindowsCE 5 navigator a can't start DeviceX to remove some ports(there are 19 com ports from 0 to 19).

DeviceX doesnt start with message "Cannot find DeviceX or one of it components), i think it requures some dll libraries from full ver of windows ce ore windows mobile.

Jaluna, may you porgram allow to create virtual com port more then com19? For example com20-com30?

Hi, thanks for a super utility works fine.
This is on a Navigo but having loaded via the V1.31 .cab file there is no settings.dat so each time port splitter is started settings need to be reconfigured.
The 3 dlls mentioned in earlier messages are present in the windows ce 5 folder.

Also, it would be good if port splitter could start up automatically on reboot.

assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

A free port sharer for Windows 32 bit became available in March 2009. Free Virtual Serial Ports Emulator by Eterlogic Software can share one COM port between several programs like excellent Port Splitter. Only any use if you can connect your GPS to Win32bit. Getting off topic.

Hi.
I have a Asus P535 wm6 and i have a problem using port splitter.
I installed port splitter and it works. I add Com 0, Com3 and Com5. If I run, say, Beelinegps on Com0 and if I try to put Ozice on Com3 beelineGps closes itself. And if I open Tomtom it closes Ozice. And so on.
I can not keep two programs running at the same time.
And I'm using about 29 Mb Rom free.
It seems to be something on wm6.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello

Thanks to port Splitter,I can ,finally (...) ,use TOM TOM V6 on my SAMSUNG I900 Omnia ( Orange Fr ROM)...Great great tool
My only issue is that ,due to AGPS (that I cannot disconnect on this ROM version) ,the phone connects on regular basis (several times a day ) to internet through 3G to update satellite positions ( I guess)
If I see it,I can stop the connection, but if I don't see it, the connection remains active....
It's an issue especially for battery impact, and on costs (when abroad...)
Would it be possible to include in the soft an autodisconnect after update achieved option, and options to enable/unable AGPS update (or schedule it (once a day,a week...)

Thank you for your help

I don't know much about the code for a port splitter program, but I assume you must have to hook in at the driver level, right? I also assume you must "pass on" calls to the comm API. So if an app calls ClearCommError with a particular handle, the port splitter software must "reflect" that call to the actual port, or something like that. I suppose any bugs in the lower level serial driver are then just passed along, right?
jaluna Posted - 08 mars 2009 : 22:11:59
Hello again musky,

yes, I use the standard win32 apis that you have mentioned. Of course, that the ce 5 version is linked against this sdk.

Well, after your update, seems that you have solved the problem. Congratulations!

musky Posted - 07 mars 2009 : 14:10:35
Hi JAL:
Yes, Port Splitter works fine with SirfTech. I redirect to COM0, and set SirfTech to COM0 and it works fine.

Are you using C or C++ and the standard API's in your code? Are you using the "typical" CreateFile(),GetCommState(),SetCommState() sequence? Or are you using CE.Net code or something else. My code works great on a Dell Axim v51v.

Basically, I can open the port successfully, but I simply do not receive any characters from the GPS!

UPDATE: After much investigation, it appears the problem is ClearCommError() is always returning 0 in cbInQue! I think it's a bug in the serial driver. I've worked around that problem and am now running. (I figured it had to be something unique I was doing, since other apps are working)
jaluna Posted - 07 mars 2009 : 07:41:04

Thanks JAL, the whole PPC, Handheld PC, CE, Mobile, etc, is very confusing to sort, that's a helpful link.

Now I can get back to my problem, which is, I am writing a WinCE app that needs to use the GPS on the HP iPAQ 310. I originally did not want to crosspost, but here is my problem:

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=123752

I wanted to see if PortSplitter would "abstract" the COM port so my problem would go away. This is not the case. My code still does not work with PortSplitter in the chain. I am really quite stuck on this. My GPS interface works well on other platforms, and it works well on the iPAQ if I use an external Bluetooth GPS. It is something with the internal GPS that is tripping me up. It is supposed to be standard NMEA. Maybe there is a "wake-up" command that has to be sent to the GPS. Any advice would be appreciated!

Update....
I found some random aygshell.dll on the Internet, and placed it in the PortSplitter folder, and now PortSplitter works. The UI is kinda goofy, I guess it's because of whatever aygshell I have, but PortSplitter does work. So, a word to the wise.... IF YOU INSTALL PORTSPLITTER ON AN HP IPAQ 310, YOU NEED TO ADD AYGSHELL.DLL TO YOUR INSTALL FOLDER.

Thanks for the reply!
I searched back through this thread and found on page 16, your post of 1/5/2009 which mentions the missing dll's. I could not find a link in a subsequent post as to a link to a hack to install these dll's.

Are these WinCE system DLL's that are missing? Where might I find these dll's? Do I need a specific version of the dll's? Where do I place the dll's?

Thanks!
jaluna Posted - 06 mars 2009 : 20:54:05
yes, it's a problem of dll missing. We have talked about it in previous pages of this thread. they are aygshell.dll, coredll.dll and commctrl.dll. If some of these files are missing in your system, you will got this error message. There are also a link to hack the missing files.

Hi:
I am pulling my hair out trying to install PortSplitter to my HP iPaq 310.

I downloaded the latest WinCE 5.0 PortSplitter cab file, psce5.CE5_ARM.cab to the iPAQ and ran it from the iPAQ. I installed to the \ResidentFlash\iPAQ\OS\GAMES folder. I now have a folder called \ResidentFlash\iPAQ\OS\GAMES\Port Splitter. When I run Port Splitter I get the error message: Cannot find 'Port Splitter" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available" <- (just love this message; what component is it looking for!!!)

the folder contains 2 files: Port Splitter.exe and extvsplit.dll

Reading back through this huge thread, I ran into some specualtion that spaces are not allowed, so I tried removing the spaces in the file path and filename, and then hacked the registry JAL entries to get the spaces out of there too, but that didn't work. Then, thinking that the problem was that the .dll was not found, I tried making copies of extvsplit.dll in the Windows root folder. this does not work.

Anyway, my first question would be, can somebody please give me a step by step tutorial on installing PortSplitter to the HP iPAQ 310? It would be most appreciated.

My second question would be how to hack myself out of the evidently botched installation I have here.

Settings are saved on exit, but the output ports are not leaving a trace in the hex-data, only the sequence-number of the speed-setting and the input port is stored there (but input port is not selected upon restart of portsplitter).
jaluna Posted - 01 mars 2009 : 20:31:44
Try to write under input port the name as "Com3", then do the 5 steps of my previous post. This must save the settings.

Hi JAL,

...thanks for your prompt correction :-)

Now the behaviour is as expected, it installs in the right directory (checked the device install) and all ports are available in the output selection box.

Still the problem seems to be on smartphone that the input port cannot be selected by pulldown list. The input port is stored in the settings.dat (and excluded from the output list) - but you can't see or select it. It has always been like this on smartphone - and for my occasional use its ok.

Also like before, the output ports are not remembered as well. They are also not stored in the settings.dat, so I suspect this is intended.

Is there any option to start portsplitter with command line options on the smartphone version? I'd like to have my defaults in:com6 out:com7 + com8 for BT GPS or in:com3 out:com7 + com8 for virtualGPS at hand without a lot of driving around the menus.

Thanks again for this great little utility!

bye

The smartphone version has no retrieval of the saved settings, or? I have not yet noticed that settings are remembered.
jaluna Posted - 27 févr. 2009 : 18:58:25
Hello iztoogood,

the settings are saved under "settings.dat" file, at same folder than executable.

1) Configure input port and output port
2) Press start to confirm configuration is correct
3) Press stop.
4) Check "Autostart" box
5) Press exit to close portsplitter.

Next time portsplitter will load and apply the saved settings.

SP WM5 is also for SP on WM6 and WM6.1 I suspect - have not found an other version :-)

Hello tobbbie,

you are right, SP WM5 have a bug. I will solve.

Hello tobbbie,

I think that you have installed in the root. Please, make a test: remove all and reinstall in a give folder.

I have just installed 1.30 for wm5 smartphone on my HTC S710 and - contrary to 1.10 - it does not work any longer. I have debuged the resons to be the following:

1.) The installer puts the file "extvsplit.dll" to the directory where also "Port Splitter SP.exe" is put, it is "\Program Files".
-> following Windows conventions the application should have an own directory there, i.e. "\Program Files\Port Splitter SP" or on card "\Storage Card\Program Files\Port Splitter SP"
-> device drivers are usually put in the "\windows" folder

2.) Calling the application via the .lnk will create ports in the registry
HKLM\Drivers\extvsplit3 (up to -8). All those reference the driver to be at "\extvsplit.dll".
-> the driver is however not there (see 1.) older versions create a link to just "extvsplit.dll" (mind the missing "\").

3.) The settings file is created in the root of the device i.e. "\".
-> this should be in the application directory (see suggestion in 1.)

All over it can be made working by just moving "extvsplit.dll" to the device-root, but this is a nasty place to put it.

Can you please update the installer + application to behave like a normal Windows Smartphone application:
1.) Installer: install to an own directory (care for device and storage card paths)
2.) Installer: install driver to \windows
3.) Application: create ports referencing the correct locations in the registry
4.) Application: create the settings.dat in the application folder

Thanks for this great tool!

bye
tobbbie
:-)

P.S.: On the smartphone you cannot select the input port (no clue why) - you have to enter it manually. Could you remember the last one entered and insert it there when starting up? It would also be helpfull to remember the split ports and insert them immediately (if they are free). This could make activation much easier.

P.P.S.: I noticed that over time that portsplitter.exe moves itself to foreground - is this on purpose? I would prefer it to stay in background if possible.

For all of you having problems with GPS on WinCE:
New version of port splitter (1.3) saves settings not in registry but in settings.dat file. So, run the file first from GUI (not the script), and set everything the way you want. On my Moov, I set input port as com2, 57600, Autostart. Then Com0 as Output. Start, and EXIT!
This creates the file. I then checked to make sure that settings.dat is in RunGMXT directory, and modified Garmin.mscr as following:

Errorlevel("warn")

If(WndExists("Garmin Mobile XT"))
Show("Garmin Mobile XT")
Exit
EndIf

#Run Port Splitter if not exists
If(not ProcExists("Port Splitter.exe"))
Run(SystemPath("ScriptPath")\"Port Splitter.exe")
Sleep(500)
EndIf

#Run Garmin Mobile XT.
#This script will not go to the next command before que.exe completely shut down
RunWait(SystemPath("ScriptPath")\"..\Apps\WM\que.exe")

#Stop Port Splitter before killing it
#If the port splitting are not stopped before killing the process,
#it will not work again even you run Port Splitter again without soft reset
If(WndExists("Port Splitter V1.30"))
#Stop button
SendCommand("Port Splitter V1.30", 1010)
Sleep(500)
#Exit button
SendCommand("Port Splitter V1.30", 2)
Sleep(500)
EndIf

#Kill Port Splitter process
If(ProcExists("Port Splitter.exe"))
Kill("Port Splitter.exe")
EndIf

This now works fine!

Hello Jaluna !

Thanks a lot for your quick help with the new "Settings.dat" file. Its perfect now. Cheers !
StormyKnight Posted - 07 févr. 2009 : 01:46:09
Thanks jaluna, have you thought of changing your taskbar icon to indicate a connection with data.....much like another well known port splitter? It can be handy to see that things are working as expected.

Thanks....
PS I think I found my issue with mortscript, on every read of the port it resets the com port & as such the GPS also resets, the port splitter stops that from happening.

Hello WallyCZ,

I'm not interested in this feature because I wish to let the file's size as small as possible.

For this specific function, I believe that you can find a lot of programs.

Hello JAL,

do you think that it should be able to add some small option for logging transfered data into file? I already tried some loggers, but they dont work on my PNA (Mio).

Thanks

Of course, it's correct.

My script is too slow to read that amount of data directly so, the data in the buffer is old & my script will never catch up. However if I use the port splitter, it gets fresh data whenever it reads.....

Does this sound likely as to the cause of my trouble?

The best is to make some log of what your script is reading from port. This will help you a lot to fix the problem.

Do you have a suggestion on how to avoid this using a slow script language as I am? Is there someway to flush the port directly that you know of?

I'm sorry but I don't have experience with scripts languages. Portsplitter is coded directly with Windows API, don't use any wrapper or framework. It's very fast in execution.

I appreciate this has little to do with your program & its development...but thankyou again for your time. If I have further questions I will post in the general forum...

Hello StormyKnight,

not sure, but may be, your engine it's desgined to read serial ports by firing events that are not sent by serial port driver of Mio.

By the way, portsplitter, already creates a shortcut on Startup folder. In other words "Autostart" function means "configure and start splitter automatically on each launch or after a softreset"

StormyKnight Posted - 05 févr. 2009 : 11:44:16
jaluna, firstly thankyou for your program, it indirectly has solved an issue I'm having trying to get the time from a GPS & then setting the time on my PNA...

I have written a mortscript script to poll the com port, look for a valid time & then update the time...
The script & forum can be found here...

http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=122593

The issue I have is that unless I use a port splitter, my script never gets the updated time from the GPS...it can read the NMEA sentances but the GPS for some reason never gets a lock...its as if the GPS is waiting for my script to do something so that it tries to find the satellites...

I'd appreciate any ideas as to why my script is failing without the port splitter.

Thankyou for your time

Hi JAL,
Thanks for the new version of Portsplitter. It turns out that my problem was caused by the fact that I had never exited the program, so the settings.dat file and registry changes/ini file hadn't been written. Could you add a "save settings" button, or put it in a readme somewhere (maybe it is already!)
Thanks, Paul
jaluna Posted - 04 févr. 2009 : 14:39:06
Easy, once you have configure in one device, copy the Settings.dat to the same folder in other devices.

If eveything works ok; i will have to install this utility on more than 200 hand held devices. Is there a way to automate the configuration process after installation on each device i.e. setting the input & output ports & selecting the AutoStart check box?
jaluna Posted - 04 févr. 2009 : 12:42:51
In the application path. It's not ini file, just 5 or 6 bytes in binary format.

Hi Jaluna!

Where can i get the latest version of PortSplitter.
Although the following link shows Version 1.3, but
it still downloads the older version.

That would be great, thanks
jaluna Posted - 29 janv. 2009 : 09:08:55
Yes, sorry, last version always in my site. Under "Donwloads" there are still a old version. Portsplitter uses the registry to save settings (as autostart feature). Some phones does not allow to use the registry (due to security policies) and others devices (as PNA) erases the registry after each on/off of the device. I can try to solve this problem putting the settings into a .ini file.

Hi Jaluna, thanks for your useful program.
I am running it on a Samsung Omnia, and it works well except for the autostart function. After a soft reset it does not start, and does not remember my settings.
I note that Ron (AXXES) had the same problem on the Omnia but managed to get it to work?
I have downloaded the latest version from the gpsmeter.com site (says v1.2 on screen), is there a v1.3?
Thanks very much,
Paul

What I meant - Can I just delete the files from the SD card (where I would install it) or are there entries left in the registry or elsewhere that I must remove. Or, does the install program have an un-install feature that takes care of any clean-up?

It was a Nokia GPS (PNA), but is now just a WinCE 5.0 PPC ;)
