Posted - 13 janv. 2009 : 11:55:14 The topic for discussing on customization of the iPAQ 31x is: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101001
Be ready to take a long time to read it all. It is now over 150 Pages. Look into the topic, there is also a pointer for a Wiki that gives major hints. Good luck. |

Posted - 06 janv. 2009 : 22:44:44 I have experienced update error during the device update. And now the device is not even booting up. So I have sent it in for servicing. (the customer service was excellent). I am now wondering if the update can be done in a different way. Instead of running the update via the HP update program, can we just copy all those files and folder (from the IPAQ update installation directory) over to the IPAQ once after connected to the PC (which will be recognised as another drive). |

Posted - 19 août 2008 : 21:09:48 Hi, I think I have the latest version from the factory. The 'about' pages has AppSuite Version 30555, NAV Version - March 7, 2008, and Driver Version 1.00.02.
Can anyone confirm this is the latest version? Thanks... |

Posted - 07 août 2008 : 14:08:19 Sorry, that's what happens when you have more than one explorer window open. I was trying to post to Customizing topic. |

Posted - 06 août 2008 : 20:25:26 Hi Sakva
the GPS inside 31x use NMEA. What you need is not to enable NMEA but to find a way to send the GPS data to a PC. 1st, you should go to http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101001 which is the topic about changing the iPaq (making it do things that was not planned by HP such as running other softwares, ...) You will learn how to gain access to Windows CE.
2nd, you shoudl search on GpsPassion about Gps2Blue which is an application that allow to share the internal GPS of PDA/PND on bluetooth. So if your PC is bluetooth, then you could do it this way. Bluetooth is the only interface I see which could be used for that purpose.
if you have more questions, follow-up in topic http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101001 and not here.
best regards,

Just made full backup and installed English version successfully - it was exactly the same as originally on the device, with wide choice of interface languages...
More important is the fact that Content Manager is offering fresh update over this... |

Posted - 03 juil. 2008 : 13:41:05 There are 3 updates released for iPaq 316: - Hungarian OS for FB078AA#1HL (sp39117.exe) - Greek OS for FA977AA#B1Q (sp39120.exe) - English OS for both FB078AA#1HL and FA977AA#B1Q (sp39119.exe)
The english one is not announced on HP web sites, but it exists on ftp.
Initially when I turned on my 316 for the first time, I have had a choice of INTERFACE language among many. Questions are: how can I know what is my 316's current OS language? will I have a choice of INTERFACE languages after upgrade? |

Posted - 02 juil. 2008 : 09:32:17 Roeka - I did say, on HP's advice, to make sure the SKU number was exactly the same. At least they got that bit right! |

Posted - 02 juil. 2008 : 05:36:28 you can download it and run the exe and it will create a directory: c:\program files\hewlett-packard\iPAQ 31x Map Update (NAENG) in that directory it will extract all the files for your GPS. It will put all the files in the same directory structure as on your ipaq. You can do it without installing it on your GPS. it has all the US maps and pois too. It will create a shortcut on your desktop to run another program to install it. So if you don't want to install but see what it inside of it, you can just install it on your PC to explore the files.
It took about 2 hours to install on my GPS. The maps are still only 2007.7, not 2007.10 (the newest us maps).
When you install it on your GPS it will erase everything and all the settings. I installed it but havent spent a lot of time on it. Runs fine but I couldn't really see any differences.

Posted - 01 juil. 2008 : 21:15:05 I have installed the update for Germany (with the wrong SKU number for my device) yesterda)and everything worked fine in the beginning. First I installed the installation program on my PC, and then installed the update on my device using this program (Total duration approx 4 hrs). In the end the program told me that my device was successfully updated. But when I removed the USB cable and the device rebootet, I got a message that the program couldn't start, and whether I would like to reset to factory settings. I could click yes or no, it always returned to that screen, although on the flash of the device everything appeared to be present allright. So I guess it was the incompatibility with the SKU numbers. Unfortunately, for my SKU FA976AT#BAN no update is available. The saving date of the maps on the device is 02/2008, of the other files 03/2008. So probably this could be a real update, but currently not for me. Fortunately restoring my current version through content manager worked fine. |
