Posted - 28 déc. 2007 : 06:09:37 The V7 Nav720 as far as I can tell is almost identical to the Nav730 except in 3 aspects. 1. Bluetooth capability 2. Maps and software are NOT on an SD chip 3. Slightly bigger screen. (480x272)
The process is nearly identical to unlocking the Nav730, except that I have found no addons.txt. So, plug your Nav720 into PC (even Vista). You will get a drive labelled "TFAT" This is your Flash ROM that holds your iGo software, games, and some paths.
The important file is IGOPATH.TXT. Make a copy of this file onto your PC or an SD card or any other location. Open up the file, you can just double-click it and use notepad. Add the following line in the [modules] section. Your placement here is where it shows up on your screen, but reversed.
Explorer = "icons/files.bmp", "\\Windows\\explorer.exe"
I placed mine at the very top under [modules] this places it in the bottom right hand corner of my Nav720.
Click on it once, you get a windows 95 type start menu. After that, if you click on it again, you will get windows explorer.
I haven't tried to add POI's or anything like that using this hack, but I have been able to add some .cab based files for WinCE.
To add the files, put them on an SD chip or on your TFAT drive. In explorer (on the Nav720) just click on the filename and it installs. It is important to know that if you reset your device (switch on the right side) you will lose any changes made to the windows registry as well as any files added to the windows folder. I also recommend installing everything to an SD chip or to My Flash Disk. Once the installation ends, the .cab file will automatically removed.
I have tried to install several games and programs. TRE installed fine and works good to modify the windows registry. I also installed a simple TXT editor that will open almost any type of file and it works fine. ArvaleII trial version would not run, and I noticed that there were two files in the Arvale folder that were not in the ArvaleII folder. These two files were AYGSHELL.DLL and GX.DLL I am not sure what these files are for, but they did help somehow when I copied them to the ArvaleII folder, and got me further along with ArvaleII Trial Version, but I never could get it to run. These same two files are in all of the games folders, and I wonder if they are required to run games on this device.
I also got an Ambicom SDIO wireless B adapter to install and partially work, but without Internet Explorer and some other configuration capabilities, I never got it to successfully connect to my wireless network. I was sure I was close. I will work with that some more when I get the chance.

Posted - 15 juil. 2009 : 23:36:29 Hello,
I've followed all of the instructions to get your skin working on my 740 unit, but it doesn't work. I have access to WinCE Explorer, but when I tap the "V7 Navigation" icon on the Launcher screen, an hourglass pops up in the middle of the screen and will not go away. I've left the unit for over 30 minutes, and still nothing happens. I don't know what's happening and would love to get your skin installed and working.
Thanks! |

Posted - 29 avr. 2009 : 19:35:51 Crkm, thanks for solving battery life issue. I have to disconnect the charger about 10 times to get a full charge. After that and with low backlight, I get 2-3 hours of battery life.
The last firmware upgrade (9/5/08) was supposed to fix the battery issue. I wonder if it actually did anything?

If route parameters are set to Short or a vehicle different than Car, then it will be displayed in red. 3. I added Fast/Optimal routing method on the Route Parameters screen. It may not have any practical usage, but it was available.
BTW, I have 2 problems with the GPS 1. Short battery life: can the battery be replaced? Is it battery or unit/hardware problem? 2. Once a while, the GPS in navigation is unresponsive for, maybe, 30 seconds. (Can this be related to Bluetooth? GPS is connected to my phone)
My problems seem similar to problems that were supposed to be fixed by 9/5/08 firmware. I tried to install it a few times, and the update procedure was ok, but not much changed.

I just got this gps and many thanks to all for posts, I added explorer and games, but I'm trying to load latest skin from smatofu but it says that it has been downloaded too many times. Also I would like to upgrade to the preimum maps located at http://www.v7support.com/gps/Download/USA/Map_Files/USA/v200707_Premium/ but the save option is greyed out how would I save these files? |

Posted - 27 avr. 2009 : 07:51:17 Hi Stan and Ed Many thanks for sharing your modifications for the NAV720. I have a NAV740 and they all work with no problems. I too was having problems with a short battery life, barely over an hour. I stumbled across the following which appears to help. When charging the unit, the light in the top left hand corner turns green when the unit is supposedly charged. However, if you disconnect the charger and reconnect the light turns red and the unit presumably starts charging again. Repeating the disconnect/reconnect (especially just before using the unit on battery power) seems to restore the battery life to 3+ hours based on the last couple of hikes where I used the unit. Also, make sure the backlight is turned down to its lowest setting. Thanks again crkm |

Posted - 01 nov. 2008 : 23:17:18 Hi Peregrine,
I uploaded the original data.zip and the modified one. http://rapidshare.com/files/159762206/data.zip.html http://rapidshare.com/files/159762207/data_original.zip.html
Unzip them and compare their contents. Copy the differences to your data.zip. Copy a few differences at the time and check if they work.
Good luck!

Stan, Ed,
Many thanks for your efforts on the NAV720. My daughter has one of the cheaper NAV700s. However, in looking at the file structure it would appear as though the skins should work with a little adjustment. In the NAV700 in the "Ingram" directory, there is no ui_NAV740 initial file then 480_272 and common subfiles. Rather the 480_272 and common files are part of the basic Ingram directory.
The contents/construction of the files in 480_272 and common in the NAV700 are extremely to those in your skin. Thus, I think that if I was able to amend the instructions in your skin that refer to ui_NAV740, I should be able to use the skin with the NAV700.
I tried both moving the 480_272 and common up a level in your skin, and also using your skin without modification, but in both instances I got an error message indicating that ui_NAV740 could not be found.
Thanking you in advance.
