Unlocking the Navigon 2100:

As the data sheet says, the Navigon 2100 has a core operating system of WinCE 5.0. "Unlocking" the unit refers to the process of booting directly to the WinCE Desktop, and has nothing to do with unlocking maps that have been illegally obtained without the proper license. Unlocking is the first step in giving the end user the ability to run other WinCE-compatable PDA applications on this PNA.

Fortunately, the Navigon 2100 will run the MN6 software from the supplied 2 Gbyte SD card or, assuming all the files on the OEM card are copied over, to any other SD card (*). DO NOT MODIFY THE EXISTING OEM SD CARD - SPLURGE FOR A FEW BUCKS, BY AN SD CARD (2 GBYTE MIN) AND COPY ALL THE OEM FILES OVER TO IT. Unlocking is a reversible process. Although you need to make Registry changes to get full functionality (without some apps locking up), removing the SD card and performing a Hard Reset will restore the original (OEM) Registry.

Hard Reset Procedure - if the PNA is on, press the Power button until the unit goes off. Press again and hold the button down - the screen will come on and after a few seconds go off again. Press the Power button again and the screen will come back. If you get the opening "music", you know the Hard reset was successful.

If you leave the memory card out and keep the unit powered on, you will after a few 10's of seconds go into the Demo mode. When you reinsert the SD card a soft reset will occur (equivalent to pressing the recessed button on the left hand side) and the unit will initialize into whatever the SD card tells it to (see below).
.

When the 2100 boots up, the firmware looks for a file called AutoRunCE.exe on the SD card if it is inserted (see above). The unlocking process basically replaces the stock AutoRunCE.exe with a different executable. The preferred executable would a "script runner" with a simple yet fairly complete set of commands. Having "grown up" with the Mio C310x, I prefer the so-called
"C310AUTO" method, and will be discussing the use of that system here. Another choice of script runner is nfRunner which appears to have a larger command set at the expense of complexity. Experienced programmers might prefer that system, and contributions in that area are welcomed.

GPSGator (the author of the original C310AUTO system) has graciously uploaded a minimal unlocking script to get everyone started. Simply copy the unzipped archive to an SD card that you have already copied all the OEM SD card files to (overwriting the existing AutoRunCE.exe), place this card into your 2100 SD slot, and reset. The script file is AutoRunCE.c31 but it's simply a text file that can be editted in Notepad or similar. The C310AUTO archive has a doc file with it that explains the command syntax in the script. As with most script languages, you must follow the syntax exactly - most of your errors will be associated with leaving quotes, commas, whatever out of the text. The first thing you might want to try is creating a Desktop shortcut to the Navigon mapping application (MN6.exe in \Storage Card\MN6). Read the C310AUTO docs, use the "Desktop" command, etc. You know what they say about giving a man a fish vs teaching a man to fish...

Once in the WinCE Desktop, go to the Taskbar (it boots up in "autohide" mode), click on the "Windows" icon, select Program Files\Explorer, and you'll see a familar friend if you're a Windows XP kinda person. You can also explore \Settings\Control Panel, but be careful. Things like 'Storage manager' can brick your unit with the wrong selection.

As I create various scripts I'll post them here; feel free to contribute. Please do not post a script unless it is working - we are not here to troubleshoot your programs, and in any case you'll find that the vast majority of your errors are syntax related.

(*) I have only personally tested a 2 Gbyte non-SDHC SD card, search the Forum for details on compatability of other types of SD cards

If you have registered with Navigon there is a free OEM/Map with all the system files here:

https://www.navigon.com/site/us/en/my_navigon/products_us/software_updates/other/pc

First log-in then click on the link above.

If the link doesnt work log in and on the left pane their should be a link for "Software Update".

You can unlock the 2100 with two different methods. But to answer your question on having the navigation rum better...unlocking your 2100 will do nothing to help you in that area. Yes, you will be able to run player for music and videos and unless you install other games or software, that's pretty much the extent of unlocking. Its nice to use though as you can launch certain programs to switch between navigation and music and so on without having to reset your device.

that is sooo 2008 cajnape but thanks to your start up kit, my genius WIFI guys in the WIFI thread, i am using my gps not for navigation, but as mini laptop and all in one entertainment center. soo for people who want to unlock just the ce system. i have to say navigon 2100 owners are lucky coz we have the almost complete ce system built in our gps. so all u have to do is use cajnape's start up kit. as he said above where u can find it. also i cant believe you guys are asking for unlock that has been here since AGES ago. it HELPS to search first. though i must admit the search feature of this forum is not the best. if all else fails, google is your friend. it also does not help that people here are not as helpful as the people on mio forum. as far as i know miopocket has evolved into a very powerful software. yes i call it software now. and i also know it is easier now to unlock via miopocket. i dont know why u guys still having probs.

if you wanna wifi, u need cajnape's unlock(unless u know how to install sdfree miopocket, i don't), go to wifi thread, and buy compatible sd wifi card. be blown away by the fact that not only can u wifi on ur gps, but u can also stream live tv,movie, music, etc.... i was, still am. especially if you read the wifi thread from the very beginning when people were saying it can't be done. but they were VERY wrong. it is all about finding the right driver and knowing where to put it, and knowing what registry to hack. easier said than done. but it has been done.

update, apparently this guy has found a way for a simple sd free unlock for navigon just scroll down some more. i actually downloaded that unlock. although i am pretty happy with my own WIFI sd free unlock. at least he has step by step instructions:

http://www.freewebs.com/xtyler91/index.htm

just holler if his sd free unlock has worked for our navigon.

No soft reset is necessary to apply changes.

To verify the output, start KGpsCe or VirtComMgr or any program that can read the raw data from the GPS port. If successful, this will of course let you skip running KGpsCe in any starter scripts etc. I've tested some other navigation apps with this output and have seen no negative impact.

The NMEA_Period values relate to the different protocols like this;

GPGLL    1   0
GPVTG   2   0
GPGGA   3   1
GPGSA   4   0
GPGSV   5   0
GPRMC   6   1

Setting all to 0 resulted in no output at all as expected. However, adding a seventh "1" resulted in GGA + RMC output, so there might be other combinations. I someone likes dig deeper into this, feel free to share the info.

There's also a NMEA_Priority value (default reading "3,3,1,3,3,2"), that I suspect is related to the same indexes, but I haven't tested enough to say what changes have what impact.

Hi Mattias, I saw a post in wich you say how to get GPS Signal on the Navigon 2100Max in Garmin mobile XT. The thing is I'm still not able to do it, I can't finde the reg file in the NX2020 driver. Hopefully you can help me figure out how to do it.

I own a 2100 max, too. There is a software called MioPocket that unlocks my unit, as well as a wide range of WinCE-based devices.

Just search for "MioPocket" in this forum, download and install it as instructed by the readme file. And then you are good to go. Very fool-proof.

Yes I am aware of that secret keypress sequence. I "grow up" with a Mio C310X and that thing has such a sequence. Unfortunately not with Navigon devices... But most Navigons only have ONE on/off button anyway... :-(

As far as I know, what you ask is not possible. You NEED MioPocket or something in place of the original AutoRunCE.exe or whatever to boot to Windows.

While some devices have a "secret" keypress sequence that gets you to the WinCE desktop, as far as I know none has been discovered for the Navigon devices.

Hi,
somebody knows How to write correct path to the file which is in device memory, not storage card.

For example if I have the folder "Navigon" and file "Navigon.exe" in the case with SD card it's look like
StorageCard\Navigon\Navigon.exe , but what about internal memory, how I have to write?

Anyone tryed to unlock the Navigon 3300 MAX ?
Is it unlockable with MioPocket or other software?

Im thinking in buying a GPS, and this one seems to be a good one and not very expensive (155€ in Portugal).
I want to TRY some different softwares (IGO8, Ndrive, TomTom...) and maps before i buy them.
Is this the best GPS to buy to unlock for this amount of money?
Thanks for the help.

Back_TMC and Back_TMC-no-route files of Cajnape's Firefighter MN6 are off centered on the writing when a Traffic Advisory comes in and you check the advisory's by clicking on the triangle (TMC) to bring up the advisory's. Can anyone send a copy of the tables that are in front of the background picture as the ones that I have are not transparent enough to see the background picture that I am going to use instead of the picture that is in the firefighter MN6 file? I am going to use a picture of one of the Fire Trucks in my Department for one of the files and a Fire image in the other. Please reply as soon as possible. Thank you.

FIRE.png is one of the files I want to use. If you want to see the image let me know.

I just wish that there's an area in the site where I can easily find instructions on customizing my Navigon 2100 Max or a place where I can download a compatible pack program specific for my device. I hope somebody will just share input and knowledge on this matter. Not sure if I have to donate first to get a response with my inquiry. I'm just totally clueless & doens't know much about GPS:(...Thanks

Hello can someone please help me before I pull out every last piece of hair I have and throw my 2100 max out the window.I am trying to unlock and install Miopockets onto it and for some reason its just not happening.I have the 2100 max about 2 weeks now and I have been trying but cant get it working at all.I've read so much info on forms in the two weeks and still nothing is happening. So it would be fantastic if someone could write down a basic step by step guide for an idiot how to do the unlocking and put Miopockets on.The 2100max is fresh out of the box with nothing done to it so far so I have to start at the very beginning.Maybe I'm jumping the gun first,am I missing an important step.I have a clean 2gb card formatted and ready to go.I have tried everything on this site with copying files and renaming but nothing is working, every time I try it the 2100 max just boots to the normal navigon menu usually with the NAVIGATION box grayed out.It seems as it bypasses what ever boot is on the card and just goes into the default menu.So if some kind soul could tell me what I need to download first.Does anything need to be done to the device first,do I need to copy any files from the original SD card and what needs renaming to what etc etc.So basically a beginners step by step guide if someone has the time, thanks in advance.

Below is a log of my testings for TMC for educational purposes. Please feel free to contribute, continue my research.

Enabling TMC/Mechanism of TMC Activation

[Navigon 2100 MN6.5.2 b-72]
I first experimented on MN6 as I have a TMC activated version, and had an unlimited mean to activate traffic on navigon 2100.
DEFAULT OEM SD
*windows/Wisnavigon.exe ALWAYS launches first. It calls SD/AutoRunCE.exe.
*Booting OEM Autorunce.exe calls MN6/mn6.exe, starts your Navigon program

1. IS WISNAVIGON.EXE REQUIRED FOR TMC???
Test Trial #1
*Replaced Autorunce.exe w/unlocking autorunce.exe (replaces "Launch80"="Explorer.exe", launches explorer.exe instead of wisnavigon.exe on restart --> windows CE), bypasses AutoRunCE.exe launching MN6.exe, prevents wisnavigon.exe background.
*Boot AutorunCE unlocking
** Manually launched MN6.exe
> Service Activation --> Product ID: APNF1-X81A2-5Jxxx
> NO TMC

Test Trial #2
*Boot AutorunCE unlocking
** MN6.exe
> PID: APNF1-X81A2-5Jxxx
> NO TMC
<*!* ACTIVATION >
> TMC ACTIVATE CODE: A9ZFRN D1V1SG 6VAXXX
*** Successfully ENABLED Traffic ***

[SOFT RESET]
*Boot AutorunCE unlocking
** MN6.exe
<TMC remains active>
<*!* Activation stays w/soft reset>

[HARD RESET]
Test Trial #3
*Boot AutorunCE unlock
** MN6.exe
> PID: APNF1-X81A2-5Jxxx
<TMC remains active>
<*!* Activation stays w/HARD reset>
FINDINGS: WISNAVIGON.EXE (directly launching autorunCE.exe -->mn6.exe ) might NOT be necessary to activate/use TMC. Further explanation is revealed below. Some people who have activated TMC, and then lose TMC after the unlock. Why? The reason could be deduced in the following trials.

2. DOES AUTORUNCE.EXE AFFECT TMC???
[HARD RESET]
Test Trial #4
*Boot AutorunCE unlock
** Renamed AUTORUNCE.exe to AUTORUNEC.EXE -which still calls MN6.EXE
*Launched AutorunEC.exe
> PID: APNF1-X81A2-5Jxxx (same as before)
<TMC remains active>
<*!* Navigon's AutoRunEC/CE.exe launches MN6.exe (ie main navigation)>
AutorunCE.exe does not seem to affect TMC, it simply calls SD/MN6/mn6.exe

3. HOW DOES WISNAVIGON.EXE AFFECT TMC/PRODUCT?
[HARD RESET]
Test Trial #5
*Boot AutorunCE unlock
*Obtained a modded wisnavigon.exe from gpspassion.com, people said it made TMC work again even w/unlock.
** (mod)WISNAVIGON.EXE (modified to run call AutoRunEC.exe(renamed) --> MN6.exe)
> PID: AP7TT-SDWWD-9Sxxx
FINDING: Wisnavigon.exe appears to modify the PID!!!>
> TMC CODE (using new PID): ARPREZ-WFJU6M-R4Jxxx
*** Successfully ENABLED Traffic ***

[HARD RESET]
Test Trial #6
*Boot AutorunCE unlock
** WISNAVIGON.EXE (modified to run call AutoRunEC.exe --> MN6.exe)
> PID: AP7TT-SDWWD-9Sxxx
<TMC remains active>
CONCLUSION: I went ahead and ran unlock, manual launched MN6.exe and found TMC to be inactived with the PID changing back to the previous APNF1-X81A2-5Jxxx. It seems that wisnavigon.exe functions as helper program to MN6.exe, generating a new PID, launching vplayer.exe, and keeping other programs from launching (see addn'l findings below). Wisnavigon.exe might generate unique PIDs for each NAVIGON unit since each unit comes with its own Wisnavigon.exe built into the ROM memory. Or it might just read the hardware PID from ROM. This prevents the activation of traffic w/the same CODE for multiple units. Manually launching mn6.exe appears to reveal the SOFTWARE's default PID. Theoretically, if you manually launch my copy of mn6.exe on another unit, it should give you the same PID, thus the same CODE could be used to unlock TMC on that unit as well!!! If you have an unlocked NAVIGON 2100, running MN 6.52, manual run mn6.exe and see if your PID is similiar or maybe even the same to mine

** Further Findings **

I made an interesting discovery today that might be useful for those using a Navigon 2100/2110 Max and having problems running KGpsCe to add output of missing NMEA protocols. For instance, GPGSA and GPGSV are needed for GMXT to go pass the "Acquiring Satellites".

This fix invloves editing the registry, so make sure you have a backup and know what you're doing.

The Nemerix GPS driver key is located under

Find the string value
NMEA_Period (wich should read "0,0,1,0,0,1".
and change it to "0,0,1,1,1,1" (no quotes). This will enable the output of GSA and GSV along with the default GGA and RMC.

On my 2100 Max I can cold boot/hard reset by doing a soft reset and immediately depress the power button when the boot process starts. The same countdown screen then appears, so at least for me there's no need to press power button while soft resetting.

Ok, I had some issues with MioPocket and my Navigon 2100 Max where I lost the "off" functionality of the hardware button. Just in case someone else is struggeling with the same issue,
editing reg key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\KEYBD\Drivername
wich most likely points to kbmouse.dll after a MP installation
and instead let it point to keybddr.dll (in ROM) sorted it out.
mstpub Posted - 07 oct. 2008 : 18:45:48
Ok, I have installed MP release 29 with no issue. Then tried the simulation and it did not work. Then I have tried to use the feature called "Autolaunch" under MioPocket Setting to launch the GPS application before MioPocket but no luck. I have also tried to Exit MioPocket to go to the WinCe desktop and then start the application using Explorer and I am still getting the "Cannot start Simulation". I tried again to change the memory management ratio and you know the answer... ... So I am lost again.

You might wonder why I want the simulation to be working since this option is not very usefull because of the simulation speed. The reason is that I am using this option to test my text to speech modification. That way I don't need to move around with the GPS to get the prompts that I have modified.
Osprey Posted - 06 oct. 2008 : 02:12:20
mstpub,
Try downloading R29 from the following page and installing it. It cuts down on the memory requirements a little bit. Also, you might try turning closing or outright disabling the MiniBar to free up a bit more memory.

Thanks for the fast reply. I increased the memory at differents levels and it did not work.

*** EDIT ***

I have also tried to set the MemoryManagement to 0 instead of 1 in the ApplicationSetting.XML
<UseMemorySplit>0</UseMemorySplit>
But it did not work either.
rlwetzel Posted - 24 sept. 2008 : 14:36:40
MSTPUB; No simulation usually results from a lack of internal memory. Go to Control Panel - System - Memory in WinCE and ensure enough memory is being allocated.

Hello, I am using the MioPocket_2.0_Release_18 on my navigon 2120 (same as 2100) and I can not start a simulation on the GPS from the Option/Simulation menu. I am getting the following error: "Cannot start Simulation". I have tried with a 2GB card and an 8GB card and still have the issue. I tried with and without the patch for TMC and no luck. Please help. Does any one experienced this issue before?

Miopocket is just a nice GUI desktop, it doesn't help you in anyway to allow miomap to run on Navigon.
I sorry, but I will not be able to help you 'crack' miomap, since that is probably against forum rules. But believe me you it is possible to run miomap on Navigon.
I myself have miomap, igo8, and navigon all installed on the same SD and easily accessible using miopocket.

As for issues with traffic on Navigon not working, I seem to recall someone have a work around to be used with CanOpener. I believe similar work around can be used with miopocket.
Search for 'wisnavigon' in the forum.
As a first stab, why don't you try running navigon from windows explorer.
Instead of executing \storage card\MN6\MN6.exe this is what Variables.mscr is tell miopocket to execute when you click on the Navigon icon.
try executing \wisnavigon.exe
If that works for traffic, then just update
Variables.mscr

floepie,
There are a couple of "minimalist" unlocks in the Mio forum. If MioPocket can be made to run on the Navigon, then those two should, as well.
floepie Posted - 14 août 2008 : 22:44:25
It seems the info on the first page is somewhat deprecated.

Can someone give a brief run-down of the unlocks du jour for the 7100?

So far, we have Mioautorun and MioPocket. Are there any others that might strive for minimalism? Thanks...

I had the same problem when I tried installing MioPocket 2.0 R22. Release 23 then came out a couple days later, and it worked like a charm. Don't know if that is what you are trying to do, but It might be worth looking into.

hp641 -

You say no memory came with it, but unless you at least have an SD card reader there's little hope of unlocking easily.

See if your unit has a "Settings" menu option that you can se the path of the Navigation software. If you do, you may be able to add in (say, on an SD card), either one of the Registry Editors or CECMD (if you've never heard of either of these, you REALLY need to do a bit of homework first if you're serious about getting it to unlock) and get some information about the unit.

To be honest, you're unit comes with so many good add-in's already (viewers, etc.) that the onlyn thing you might get out of unlocking are games. But it's a good amount of work and research to do same.

Guys, to the best of my knowledge, iGO8 does not have any official releases. By the strict rules of this Forum, therefore, iGO installation issues are not allowed, at least until it's available somewhere for purchase.

Same applies to posts by busdepot and tommyis3, which were simply deleted.

swamper1953 Posted - 23 juin 2008 : 03:27:38
1)dont click on anything that ALWAYS causes a system crash
2)see #1 and adjust accordingly
3)the settings wont stick so either do not reboot or remember what to change everytime you do
4)you can increase the size of the button by editing the quicklaunch.ini file
5)there are a few more forums here that deal with just about any issues on the navigon 2100 be sure to start at page one to fully understand the processes

Hi Everyone,

I installed Bob Doles hack on my 2120 and it works, but there are a few bugs I need to work out.

1. When I click on the file explorer the system crashes.
2. The WinCE start button doesn’t usually work. I click on it and nothing happens, then on occasion it works for no good reason.
3. Lots of settings don’t seem to stick

I haven’t had much success with WolfNCU using just the WolfToolbar.exe & WolfToolbar.ini. It’s a great idea but way too many bugs.

I also tried the Quicklaunch application. I wasn’t very impressed with it even though it was less buggy then WolfNCU. I just found it very difficult to select in the top corner.

Minus the few issues this is almost an ideal unit.

I’m very new to this so please S P E A K S L O W L Y:)

Hope you can help with a few suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

MioPockets 2.0

Took me a while to figure out how to get MioPockets 2.0 tor work on Navigon 2100. Thought it would help to post the files that worked for me. This is based on the release #18. A few tweaks had to be made to make it work with Navigon 2100. This post should make it a lot easier for people to install MioPocket. Note, the latest release #20 doesn't work with Navigon 2100, so don't bother trying that.

This is much cooler looking and stable than CanOpener.

To install in on your navigon 2100.
Make a backup copy of AutoRunCE.exe on your SD card by re-naming it to AutoRunCE.exe.bak

Download and extract miopocket:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OBB7R2X7

Copy all of the files you unzipped into the root directory of your SD card. ('MioMap' and 'MioAutorun' directories + 7 files) Copy them into the root directory of your SD card.

Do a hard reboot.
You will see a message saying to insert the memory card.
Just wait 30 seconds.
The unit will setup miopocket, and then reboot itself again.
And then it will load up miopocket.

That's it.

To customize the GPS program icons, edit the file:
MioAutoRun\Scripts\Variables.mscr

you need to customize it match where you have installed your GRP software (Navigon, iGo, Mio, TomTom, etc...)

Everything else seems to all work without any other configuration.

Enjoy!

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS!!

I know have a 7100 with miopockets loading natalie the navigon up- yes i got bored and named her (truck driver)

using a 4gb SDHC class 6 card - had to format it using fat32 and 32kb allocation size for it to work. then i restored my original 1.x files to it, then I updated it to 1.2 files, then started playing around with the mio files.

copied all files to folder /NAVIGON/ renamed the mio files to autorunce files and away i go.

dont know if traffic still works, will find out as i head out on the road later tonight.

my question is this -- i got it working on 4gb SDHC class 6 -- can this thing read 8gb?

right now i only got a couple movie files and navigon files on it (about 1.4gb free) but my goal is to put Iguidance and MIOMAPS on this thing to see if i route any better.

right now i dont like the way Natalie the Navigon routes me -- she ignores good shortcuts like hwy 287 here in texas.

maybe the others will route me better?

Tysa,
I should have been clearer. On traffic the unit was not a 2100T and had no traffic activated. with Igo the traffic worked in Europe. I must have been picking up the free govt subsidized traffic.

I was not getting crashes so considered it a full version. Thanks for the clarification.
TSYA Posted - 12 juin 2008 : 05:55:25
AER - it is a working demo.

iGO 8 Final has not been released yet (hence the large number of build floating around - and all with in the past couple of months).

Traffic will be usable in iGO 8. If you look at the script to enable it in iGO - it does recognize that in the USA - traffic is provided by Clear Channel which charges for its service.

Even if you have traffic receiver unit attached - you will still run into issues with encoded traffic.

In Europe - most of the traffic is free and not encoded - hence many eurpeon users are claiming TMC is working fine.

Also - I bit on the Staples deal. I now have a 2100 in my possession.

Also - i see why folks did not understand when I use to say that my 5100 did not suspend the unit correctly when you press the power button in unlocked mode. The power button was dual function reset button as well (you hold it for 6 seconds). In the 2100 and 7100 - there is a seperate reset button.

Everything working good so far...now awaiting for ::cough:: traffic keygen for MN6::cough::
aer Posted - 12 juin 2008 : 02:12:51
bobdole it isnt a working demo version but a full version. I've used it in Europe and the US.

The traffic did not work in the US with a US bought unit I got to bring my inlaws in GErmany, but worked fine once there. So it works on the European traffic system for some reason. I fitted out both mn6.5 and Igo8. They prefered the igo8 after using it with both.

I got iGo8 working nicely on my 2100 here in the US, but now I need to be able to get the Traffic working - the traffic works nicely with the MN6, but I do not know how to get it working with iGo8 - any help is appreciated :-)

I am able to run iGo8 also - but alas so far w/o traffic.

Anyone know of a UBS Traffic device that I can use?

Thanks

Without really having done any research on the issue whatsoever- I think that iGo is primairly a european product. I could be way off though- it does look pretty cool.

By the way, I had some issues with none of the desktop icons working on MioPocket 2.0 R21, but I saw R22 just came out, so I gave that a try and it works great! I just need to read through the rest of that 100+ page forum to learn how to tweak it to my liking. Thanks for the direction bobdole!

where can I get the igo8 for the Navigon 2100 in the USA? Anyone?
TSYA Posted - 11 juin 2008 : 00:13:00
Well...

Someone found it necessary to break the driver side window and swipe my Navigon 5100. I am currently using my HTC Mogul with Garmin XT until I find something new. Perhaps I will jump on this weeks Staples special on the 2100 for only $120.

@Blue - thanks for creating the 5100 version.

@Bob - thanks for making the ultimate skin compatible with the Navigon and offers to create workarounds.

@Molfen - There is a script in Data.zip (I think it was called TMC.UI) that reads your activation code for iGO to decrypt TMC in the USA. TMC in other countries are mostly free and no code is needed - so your iGO will work great with TMC there. Navigon, through MN6, uses its own activation code to decrypt the messages. I dont think anyone has found a way to have this activated with other applications.

miopocket 2.0 definately works wtih Navigon 7100. A few people on this site are running it just fine. However, my release was specifically made for Navgion 2100. There is screeen resolution and other device specific customizations that I made to have that version of miopocket work with Navigon 2100. If you want to use my release, you would have to undo some of the customizations that I did.

The default miopocket releases from Osprey would work almost directly for 7100. Check the post by miolover on the official miopocket thread:

He has instructions on how to make miopocket release 21 work with Navigon.

Hello Gentlemen,

I'm a long-time lurker here in these forums, I was hoping I'd have something whothwhile to contribute for my first post, but unfortunatly thats not the case. And I know you've all heard it many times here on these forums, but thank you again for all the effort you guys put into making this such a fun and interesting hobby!

Now down to business, I'm trying to install BOBDOLE's version of MioPocket 2.0 on my Navigon 7100. There seems to be an issue with folders or maybe write permissions? The error message reads:

"Couldn't create directory '\Flash Disk\MioAutoRun' Line 9(\Storage Card\MioAutoRun\Scripts\Unlock.mscr): MkDir(SDStartupFolder)"

I am using a SanDisk Ultra II 4GB SDHC card, with all the original files from the Navigon 2GB card included with my unit (with the exception of alaska and hawaii maps I deleted to save space). I checked to make sure the card was not write protected. I tried renaming the card to "Storagecard" and "Flash Disk". And I do have POIWarner and the 1.2 update installed. I copied all the MioPocket files from BOBDOLE's download directly to the root of the SD card, and here I am.
Only thing I can think of would be a conflict with POIWarner, but thats a long shot. Any other ideas what might be going on here? I consider myself pretty tech-savy, but no experience with scripting of any kind.

Thanks again everything on the site, and for making a great toy even better!

I got a Navigon 2100 and bought the traffic from Staples last week - But now that i have seen iGO8 - I want to run this on my Navigon 2100 device.

1) Does anyone know if this can be done with Traffic working?
2) What are the steps - my Navigon is still a virgin so to speak.

Just tested my Amcor 3900 setup with iGO8 - looks and works great!

Thanks for a great thread!

I doubt if anyone here has tried but it would seem logical that you could replace the map - the software is setup to chose a map if you have more than one on a card - sounds like a question for Navigon support if you need a definitive answer - i would suggest you buy a 4 or 8 Gig card and put both maps on it

Lots of people have done this. There have been discussions of perfectly legitmate and easy ways to do this. Somehow mods (triggerhappy?) are removing discussions and postings on legal use of several maps -- including extra maps purchased from navigon.

Are you referring to the Navigon starup sound?
I tried disable in the TMC patch. I replaces the navigon startup sound with silence for the 'soft reboot' that navigon needs to get TMC working. However, I can't disable the initial Navigon sound at 1st boot, since that sound is hard written in the ROM.

The beep sound is not from me, but from the windows CE operating system.

I'm using a 4GB SDHC card, I'm using about 3.4GB of the card and all of the contents of the SDHC work perfectly(with miopockets to play videos also). Navigon 2100 is made to work with SDHC, so if you have a none-SDHC compliant card it is no surprise that it became unstable.
The card that I have is A-Data class-6 turbo. You can get it from Microcenter for $18, with a free card reader included.

If Donnib doesn't have traffic activated, then he doesn't need to rename anything.
If he has traffic activated, then he might need to rename navigon.exe to autorunEC.exe . Although there's no gurantee that traffic would work, since I'm not sure what the boot sequence is on the max2100.
And I don't know if the max2100 even use wisnavigon.exe like the regular 2100's.

@Blue - Thanks Blue. I dont have any specific preferences. I am also going to play around with the tweaks in hopes that the routing improves somewhat.

@Random - This is assuming youre using MioAutoRun as your unlocker/access to the CE operating system. I had WolfNCU extracted to the WolfNCU folder on the SD card. Then I modified the (in my case) the igolauncher2.mscr with the line run("storage card\wolfncu\wolftoolbar.exe") right before launching the igo application.

@Miolover - iGo, miomap and tomtom do indeed have exit buttons - however, I prefer to just put the unit into suspend mode (the equivalent of clicking on the power button) and resume the unit without the need to exist the application (Just like a stock Navigon - when you turn off the unit and turn it back on - navigon is already running and no need to start it up). Getting GPS re-locks is a alot quicker this way as well. I dont know how it is with the Navigon 2100 - but with the 5100, launching into the CE OS loses my ability to use the power button to suspend and resume the unit. The power button is only good for doing a hard resets (holding the power button for like 6 seconds to do a hard shutdown and then holding it for another 6 seconds to start it back up - equivalent to a hard reset)

Quicklanch will terminate MN6 and return to MioPocket if you use ITaskMgr to terminate the MN6 process rather than the task.

All you need is Wolftoolbar.exe and Wolftoolbar.ini.

Just run it before Navigon (e.g. as Bobdole has done with Quicklaunch - edit the startup script to launch Wolftoolbar.exe prior to launching MN6).

Whats cool is that when you click on the home button, you can customize it through the menu rather than editing the ini file. The only time you really need to edit the ini file is to have the icons point to different executables rather than the defaults (which is what I did for the suspend. That way I dont have to exit iGO8 in order to turn off the navigon unit...and when I click on the power button it comes to live with iGO up and running no need to relaunch it).

When I have iGO running - the Toolbar icon actually hides in the upper right corner behind the igo screen so that i have full view...however, just cliking there brings it to life then I can select kill or suspend or home.

TSYA how do you install wolf tool bar?
rlwetzel Posted - 24 mai 2008 : 17:58:50
MioMap and iGO recognize that a TMC receiver is available and run through the stations. It's not a communication issue with the hardware, when a TMC station is found the TMC data isn't downloaded and a "CA-TMC (No Key)" message is generated. I suspect that MioMap and iGO have some sort of software entry to confirm that a TMC subscription has been obtained.
random08 Posted - 24 mai 2008 : 17:27:16
or maybe an alt + F4 from the keyboard to kill apps. It is a pain to always have to restart.

@ Swamper,

I imagine an app to do what Bob Dole is talking about would be rather tiny. Less tham 2mb for sure.

But with all these possibilities, bigger is better. A four gig card should keep you in good shape.

There should be an executable to kill the running program in the current view (which in this case to be Navigon).

Not trying to advocate WolfToolBar - but there is a kill option to do that so that you will not need to bring up task manager.

@rl - I figure that its only available with the Navigon software as looking up TMC information for the US - the service is available through Clear Channel. Of course - its not free. Other parts of Europe - its free (hence the many forums of people claiming TMC functioning with their PNA's running iGO and such). Someone will eventually figure out how to add the key provided by Navigon to descramble the data.

@Blue - very appealing blue skin. Unfortunately it works up till you select options/settings for the Navigon. Then it freezes and I have to do a hard reset on the 5100.

I find the task manage kill the process better, than task.
It always see to kill process immediately, but killing task sometimes doesn't do it.

Anyway, youn can customize quicklaunch to to run any program you want. Just edit the quicklaunch.ini file.

For the startup prgrams that miopocket runs at startup, edit the startupprograms.mscr file in the scripts directory.
You can add as may startup programs as you want. The syntax is straight forward.

Here's an example:
Run(ProgramsFolder\"PocketNav.exe")

This will run \Storage Card\mioautorun\programs\pocketnav.exe

Notice, you must have the executable some where down stream from the mioautorun directory.

FYI that logo calls explorer.exe. but i believe that is solved in latest release(R21) which works on navigon 2100. you just have to go to page 79 or 80 of the miopocket thread if you want to try the latest release. bobdole i am interested in the quicklaunch program. are you saying i have to put it in the miopocket script? where exactly? thanks.

There's not much fat to be trimmed on the miopocket. As you know 90% of the applications work, so unless there are applications that everyone think is usless, I don't know what you can delete.

There is some stuff that you can trim out in the skins.
Three's something called gstheme. I think that's a iphone like interface. I haven't played it, but I think it's not needed by miopocket. There also some other skin thems like 'blue', 'ice', ete. that could be removed. There's bitmaps files, background files associated with various other thems not in use. They can be cleaned out. You might be able to create two versions of miopocket, one for 2100/5100, and another for 7100. Then you can remove the wide screen or std screen components out. Just some ideas.

As for the windows startup icon, it seems to do nothing on my unit also.
rlwetzel Posted - 23 mai 2008 : 22:31:57
@TSYA; I've not found how to run TMC with anything but the MN6 software. As with yours, both MioMap and iGO search and show the same message as you receive when a station is found. I'm assuming there is some additional registry entry that actually activates the TMC in the programs since they both require additional subscriptions on their native hardware, like the 2100 does.

Also,
When i touch the start button (windows logo) at the bottom left...nothing happens! I had it pull up the start menu where i could access programs favorites etc... (did this once when i first installed miopocket) but now it wont do so.

Is anyones unit able to do so or are all ya'lls not doing anything like mine?

Hi Bobdole,

I have tried RL's method. I think I have the blacksheep of the three. But when I run the original AutorunCE.exe it complains right away that its not a valid WindowsCE application. But when I put the original 5100 SD into the unit and hard reset - it starts up normal. What I am really trying to do is not run Navigon but to run iGO8 with TMC. TMC is recognized with the "gns" protocol on Com Port 1. But when its tuned to one of the three chicago stations providing TMC traffic update - I get the message "CA-TMC (No Key)".

I want to hold onto the Navigon unit as I have seen the new version of MN7. All I can say is that this beats all. By the way you can download via one of those links you provided bob - but only europe maps are available for MN7 and it only runs in widescreen mode at the present. You cannot use MN6 maps.

Thanks TSYA

It's not critical for anything.

@cajnape

Sounds like you've always had a problem with quicklaunch program. You need to fix your quicklaunch setup.
Did you have some typo in the quicklaunch.ini file or do you not have the quicklaunch.ini file in the same directory as quicklaunch.exe?

My recommendation is for you to copy the programstartup.mscr script from my traffic patch release, and copy the the quicklaunch.exe and quicklaunch.ini files from same traffic patch release, and put them in the same directory as indicated in the traffic patch release.
cajnape Posted - 23 mai 2008 : 15:48:19
Bobdole...

When i put a run commend to start up quicklaunch into the startup script...it works great and does what its supposed to do.
But when im running gps and want to go back to miopocket...i hit the quicklaunch button and it gives me a "cant find error" which is ok, but it won't put me back into miopocket! I only get the error. Now before when i was cracked into CE the old way i could hit the icon while in gps mode and it would give an error but also pull up the taskbar at the bottom so i could revert back to the desktop.
Do you have any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
Hope that all made sense...

Thanks...

I believe there is a overclock/underclock utility that can be use to underclock the Navigon and maybe get longer battery life. This may be useful when you are not using it as a GPS, but watching a movie or mp3 music. I think one easily run the unit at half the clock frequency and still be able to watch movie/listen to music.
In addition, if you are listening to music and don't need the screen you can set the screen to to turn off after some idle time. You'll need to change everything back in GPS mode though.

Navigon 5100 should work like the 7100. According to rlwetzel's post on the last page. TMC works if you just run MN6 using the original autorunce.exe. Wisnavigon.exe is only for 2100.
What I recommend you do is to copy the autorunce.exe from your original Navigon SD, and rename it autorunMN.exe. Copy autorunMN.exe to the SD card containing MIOpocket(root directory).
Execute autorunMN.exe. Hopefully MN6 with traffic would work.

If that works, I can do a patch to link the navigon icon to autorunMN.exe for 5100/7100 users.

TYSA regarding TMC did you try the SWAMPER'S method? Just curious.
TSYA Posted - 23 mai 2008 : 04:08:04
Excellent work Bobdole...

I currently use WolfToolBar.exe. This actually works better than the Quicklaunch. What I like about the toolbar is that you can position the button anywhere on the screen. You can also place the options that the button presents anywhere on the screen. And you can also customize the size of the buttons and the icons with in the button. I originally posted a question on placing my Navigon 5100 on suspend mode (turning off the screen) without exiting the navigation software. This is now done with Wolftoolbar. And it will also kill any existing application.

I am having not so much luck with the TMC on the 5100 unit. iGO8 recognizes the TMC but when it finds the TMC channel with the correct TMC data - it displays CA-TMC (No Key). Does anyone know what this means? Of course I am not able to receive traffic data and as such - does anyone know how to receive the TMC data on the 5100?

Just for kicks I tried the Wisnavigon.exe that you provided - but I get an error stating that this is not a valid Windows CE application. Also running the original AutorunCE.exe from my SD card through MioPocket - I get the same error. However if I boot off the original SD - everything works fine (Navigon 5100 Software Version 1.2a).

Lastly - I apologize to lenght of this email - but thanks for the pointers to get iGO TTS working. The only draw back is the volume. Its barely noticeable as compared to the non TTS voices with iGO. Also you should download the updated EnglishUs6.9.lex file as this fixes pronounciation errors in the original lex file (e.g. Main Dr is pronounced Main Doctor with the original lex file).

Thanks all

I don't know what could have caused you to have 2 red X buttons.
I haven't changed anything that would do that...

I suggest you delete the mioautorun directory from your SD and re-copy the files from the original release, and then re-copy the files from todays patch. Make sure you do a hard reboot. Hope that'll get you back to normal.

On a side note, I did notice that if you accidentally hit the red X button when there are no applications open, it will kill the quicklaunch utility. I haven't seen MN6 kill the quicklaunch.

I'm thinking of changing the bottom icon bar to have the quicklaunch replace the 'file explore'. That way you can have quick access to the quicklaunch in case it gets killed. I don't know what that 'file explore' does, it only seems to lock up my unit when I try to use it.

swamper did you have the same problem as I posted? Do I have to delete something?
BLUE Posted - 23 mai 2008 : 01:59:27
BOBDOLE you are good. Traffic is working just fine. Problem is ...now I have two red exit buttons existing on the right, about an inch apart from each other. The QuickLaunch disappears after launching Navigon6.

bobdole - you are THE man it seems to work just fine - thanks

to shut down navigation app you need to use task manager and 1st shut down wisnavigon then mn6 or it will freeze

This is a patch for miopocket to fix Navigon traffic problem for 2100.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SEE06E6M

It is only for Navigon 2100 with traffic activated, do not use it for other models. This will not activate 2100 units without traffic activation.
Included is hacked wisnavigon.exe now executes autotrunEC.exe (renamed from original autorunCE.exe). This will allow TMC activated 2100 units to work properly.

In addition, quickLaunch utility configured to launch task manager is automatically started at boot up. Look for the tiny beige triangle at the bottom left corner. This is very useful for existing out of Navigon Navigator without having to do a hard reboot.

To apply the patch, just copy the 3 files and the entire mioauotrun directory into the root of your SD card. Overwrite the existing file.

After the files have been copied, just do a hard reboot, and that's it. You will be able to run Navigon with traffic by clicking on the Navigon icon.

I don't have traffic activated on my unit, so I can't verify that it works, but I don't see why it won't work. Please just give it a try.

In case if it doesn't work, you can still revert back by re-copying the original miopocket release and overwriting existing files.

Let me know if this fixes the traffic problem.

Ah, Thanks for the education.

bobdole - i fixed the link please try again - i had ".con" not ".com" - keep us posted on the automatic - t y in advance - btw
explorer causes freeze up i use ce commander error free

rlwetzel - 7100 comes with traffic 2100 requires buying the option - the system check for the id numbers is the problem on the 2100

To use TMC within MioPocket, at least on the 7100, all you need do is start MN6 with the original AutoRunCE. To use MioPocket, rename AutoRunCE to something else and rename MioAutoRun to AutoRunCE. Start MioPocket with the new AutoRunCE and to use MN6 with TMC start MN6 with what ever you renamed the original AutoRunCE. Boots up with the Navigon startup screen and TMC and bluetooth both work.

@swamper
The 4bobdole.exe doesn't look right. The file size was only 6k.
wisnavigon.exe from my gps was 497k.

The best way to do it is to use 'windows explore'(the icon on the left of the media player on the bottom of the screen).
Copy it to the root of the SD card.

I'm working on a way to make it totally seamless. Users would only need to click on the Navigon icon and it should all work.

Can you try e-mailing me instead.
Also, I'm going to try to come up with a fix for the traffic, but I need the wisnavigon.exe file from another unit to see if each unit has a unique file, or if it's generic.
If it is generic, then I think I can build a patch for miopocket to make it work with traffic directly.

Does anyone know why would TTS not work using MioMap? I am running Miopocket on NAvigon 7100 (works great by the way) and the only thing that I can't get to work os TTS. It works on Navigon MN6. MioMap is working fine using non TTS voice, same goes for IGO, non TTS = OK, TTS - no dice. The only thing I hear is a "Bing" before it is suppose to say something and then - nothing. Any help\advice is greatly appreciated.

Blue

I tried this twice and it worked both times to get traffic to work - dont know why just that it works - lol

copied all files to the sd card after renaming original autorunce

i then reinstated the original autorunce using the file utility of the miopocket crack

ran wisnavigon but that just sent me back to the original start up screen

tapped on the navigator 6 icon on the navigation screen and the traffic was active

i did nothing else - no other renaming - no hex editing - nothing

hope this works for you too

you need to redo if you lockup and need to reboot - that is how i know it works lol

the clock or the quicklaunch both work to drop out of mn6 navigation and back to the mio app
rlwetzel Posted - 20 mai 2008 : 22:36:48
To get Navigon/MN6 TMC working within MioPocket I renamed AutoRunCE (I used AutoRunMN6) and started MN6 with that rather than MN6.exe. Appeared to me the AutoRun initialized something on the Navigon hardware, maybe the TMC receiver?
BLUE Posted - 20 mai 2008 : 19:09:59
thanks again. Now I know what was the root cause of the problem. Maybe I can e-mail you later for some questions?
