I have found on a very good Italian site, the program to unlock (so to speak) the C220. I wanted to start a thread in english to hopfully get some more intrest in opening up the capabilities of the C220.

Here is the site
http://foro.todopocketpc.com/showthread.php?p=936930#post936930
It is a C250 site but the script and program works great on my C220 US model from Circuit City.

Here is what I could get from the google translator and my personal experiance.
This script and setup gives you a new front interface with winCE 5.0 usability and a set of bundled apps. Our good friend Antonio provides a great little set of scripts and apps to allow you to play MP3 and video, and view pics. You get a file explorer and system utilities. The mio digiwalker software works great when in the new shell so it is to me as good as the C310x but with updated maps and faster 3d screens.

Please check it out, it is pretty good. If you are a programer you may be able to enhance it further. Just tryin' to spread the word for anyone looking to get an entry level MIO and add MP3, etc... support.

Hi, I have miopocket 2.0 from toro (spanish website) working well with miomap and Igo8, but to start the pseudo desktop I have to take off and to reinsert the 2GB SD card. There is some script or how I have to make the autostart the MioPocket desktop? or at list pressing the MioMap from the initial menu of the c250.

Not sure if anybody still uses this Mio thread, but I have an old Mio C220 that I'm trying to unlock. Questions:

1. I lost the SD card with the map data - is it possible to unlock a C220 without an SD card and then load unlocked maps onto a off-the-shelf SD card?

2. When I use the Mio Transfer Hack C250 by FredLynx, I see the 2 columns for PC and Mio, but nothing is clickable. I.e., I can't open up any directories on either side. Understandable for the Mio since there's no SD card, but puzzling for the PC side.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm looking for the easiest way to unlock my c220. I would like to do this by SD card instead of changing the flash. I need the most simple way. Thanks.

This may be a dumb question: Will the following registry work?
Launch50 has been occupied by fox-copy in my device. Thanks a lot for any feedback.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
"Launch60"="explorer.exe"
"Depend60"=hex:14,00, 1e,00)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
"Launch50"="explorer.exe"
"Depend50"=hex:14,00, 1e,00)
Regarding the upgrade:
- you are wrong: there is a firmware upgrade embedded in that exe file (we tacking about the file that make the firmware upgrade). If you are interested I can tell you how you can extract that file from exe ... but I don't think is going to be useful, because is for other device - with different hardware.
My opinion about the "firmware problem" is that:
1. there was a first release of C220 (where can be that: on the biggest market - California). This release was build according to MioMap 3.2 (this miomap doesn't have TTS).
2. a new version of software was released: MioMap v 3.3 (with TTS capabilities). But this new version request a component "Notify" that is not present in the OS build. They make a new build with Notify included. (this supposition can be checked very ease: install MioMap 3.3 on the "not unlock able version". start the MioMap v3.3. Try to change the Voice to TTS ... ).
Sow this is the reason why there are 2 versions of ROMs.
Another fact the support this supposition: All other "more expensive" devices from Mio (not the kiosk) have the option to upgrade the MioMap software from 3.2 to 3.3 ... except the low costs (old C220, C250). and this is not because they are mean, is because is not working "reliable" due to a ROM missing.
You can ask mio (I tried) regarding the upgrade to 3.3. They will say "We are working on that, but every interesting device need time to ...." anyway ... the short version is: you can forgot about upgrade.

Greetings.I've been reading and learing thru here since aquiring a C220s last week, and in that time I've tried a few different scripts as well as MioPocket 3.Thanks for all the great and useful info.
The one I found that works best for me is Script 3.24r.

But I have a question. Is there any way to make the media player minimize so I can use Miomap at the same time? And if so,how do I do it?(remember,I'm a fairly noob at this)

Hi everybody, can one of you please upload the original wince image from a c250 Eastern Europe version?

I bricked my c250 and now I have to upload the original fimrware back on it in order to use it again... :(

PS. I have the mio C250 Romanian version!

After trying lot of unlocks for C250 i decided to try a different SD card - worked first hit

For benefit of any other C250 owners (other models maybe affected) - it's not compatable with 4 gb SDHC card - apparently OK with std 4 GB SD card, but i've ordered std 2 GB SD card
g_alin Posted - 14 juil. 2009 : 20:50:43
JethroUK,
That is firmware dependent ... so first question: do you have MioMap3.3 or MioMap2008? Can you download (using DiscRW) your SMFlash? Probably you should move to: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=127723 and we can go further from there.

I tried this unlock on my C250

http://dushkov.net/?p=59

It just says:

quote:
» Download: http://dushkov.net/~martin/Mio/StarterC220onSD.rar , Unrar it and place it in the root of your Storage Card. Insert the card into your Mio Device and it shoud a Window will pop-up … select ‘YES’, then your device will restart (don’t panic when you hear the Windows Sound ) Now your device is Unlocked (aka. you will be able to use many features, and starting everything you want!),until the next ‘Hard Reset’ aka. when you press the Start Button (the only one) for more than 9 Seconds!Thats the reason I don’t delete ‘Script’ from the Storage Card.

I unzip files - put them on SD card - insert the SD card - restart C250 but nothing happens?

It doesn't even look at the SD card???????

It just starts up as usual?????

What s wrong???

I need a little help from you c220 users. I have mio moov 200 with windows ce 5.0 core. I have managed
to unlock the pna. Now, I am looking for original mio application like calculator, picture viewer, mp3
player etc.
Could somebody help me, and copy these file from windows folers?

I also have a favourite app, mdict. I like it because i can view offline wikipedia with it. It starts,
but after i tried more htmlview.dll i am stucked. The reading pane is emty or, not formatted at all..

I'm sure it's because of the webview.dll, but until now i was not able to find the correct version.
I have device emulator with wince 5.0 core (in chinese language :-) ). Mdict runs on it well. THere is a

webview.dll in the rom, but i can't extract from it. Any ideas?

Update to below post.
I did find a WINCEIMG.CKS and when choosing upgrade from SD there is a lot happening on screen. But after reboot i still end up at the blue screen. Why does not a system start?

*************************************

When I start my Mio DigiWalker C220 it shows blue screen with some options.

I bought it on sale for around 5€. It did not have any system on it thoe so I am missing all files that is needed. I have tried the MioPocket 2.0.44 but can´t get it to work (have renamed MioAutoRun.exe to a lot of different names). I have the files on a SD card and when I try to boot or upgrade from SD i get cant find file UBOOT.CKS or WINCEIMG.CKS.

TIA

All the hacks I've found so far for my wife's C220 creates an elaborate desktop and what not. On my 310x, it was just a plain Windows 98 looking thing where I could launch IGO 8 from the file explorer. Is there any way to do this instead? I fear that RAM is being wasted when I don't need fancy skins or operating systems. Also, every time I turn the C220 on after it is off it asks me the Do You Want to run DM? question. Every single time. So I'd like to know if there's a better way.

Thanks!!

If so I have something that might be more useful. I've used "Windows CE 5.0 Platform Builder" from Microsoft to create a working image of Windows CE 5.0 for ARMV4I that runs on the Microsoft Device Emulator. It runs perfectly and I am able to access the desktop. I see that there are a few files such as "shell.exe" and "services.exe" that might be useful. I am not a real hacker or a programmer so I don't know. Let me know if you're interested in the emulator image.

After those researches i can tell you (my opinion ...) there is a shell32.exe that make the 'desktop' - some application need this window, services.exe and there other too (I don't have the C220 here) ... Probably the reasonable option will be to find the sources of taskbar.exe and recompile them for WM 5.0.
@Thomasyola don't delete the maps ... copy them to an other SDcard.

used flash card unlocking method...

* c220 and c250: rename MioAutoRun.exe to oscar91adm.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to oscar91adm.mscr. If that doesn't work, try the c230 names below.
* c230: rename MioAutoRun.exe to autorun_ABC.exe and MioAutoRun.mscr to autorun_ABC.mscr. If that doesn't work, rename them to goce.exe and goce.mscr

could anyone who did the produced to success end skype me (nc_max) and suggest something?

Is there an updated POI file online that is very current and can completely replace the POI file I have on my C220?
Mine is now a few years older and I'm finding that many of the restaurants etc. have come and gone. Any advice and suggestions on how to replace the POIs are welcome.
Besides Bupah's final 3.5 SD hack any other must haves on this device you'd recommend?

I have a mio C220 unlocked with Miopocket2.0 r41 . Miomap v3.3, iGO8 (new version) and tomtom7 running without probs.

I've just been given an old Mio C220 by my uncle who moved home to the uk from canada and bought a new gps as he thought his old mio was obsolete. I have read the thread but an a complete noob and have just jumped into the deep end because I'm using linux ubuntu aswell. I have plugged the c220 into my laptop but ubuntu wont even recognize its connected so not sure what i have to do to get it to open that up. I was not given and cd with the c220 just the device itself. I want to be able to run either igo or tom tom on it if thats the best outcome or even the iphone hack looks pretty neat. I understand that your a legend with the c220 Bupahs and from your replys in this thread your pretty well informed on linux can you give me a step by step guide on how to:-

Unlock the mio C220

Be able to connect it to my laptop using ubuntu linux and where to get any drivers I may need

What files are needed and where to get them to do all the unlocking and installing of new software.

If all this is possible I would be very grateful and would like to make a donation to your site.

Okay, I just realized that USB Sync 3.7.1.3244 is the version number of wceusbsh.inf. I also tried installing it through a toshiba ppc installation script.
Is there a different usb driver that will work for the c220s?
jeff.6 Posted - 18 févr. 2009 : 15:10:57
Hi, I apologize for the newbie question but I haven't been able to get my winxp computer to access my c220s (R07.3.0166.0611)

Here's what I've tried.
I've installed wceusbsh.inf by right clicking on it and selecting install.

I've tried installing wceusbsh.inf through the update driver dialogue, but windows says that the driver contains no information on the hardware.

Mio customer support states that there is no usb driver for the c220s.

I've read references to Mio DigiWalker USB Sync 3.7.1.3244 driver, however, every download link I click on sends me to windows update. I've downloaded every update the site recommended and searched the site for the driver with no success.

My questions:
Can someone send me a link or copy of USB Sync 3.7.1.3244?

Is there anything else I can try?

My main goal is to install oziexplorer on this device. Is this realistic?

Thanks

Just read all the posts in this thread. But still can not find the files I want. Is there anyone can give me a download link for the files to launch controlpanel in c220. mathwiz314 - version 3.5 had the working taskbar, start menu button and everything. It looked and worked just like a XP taskbar. It was the final release just before the whole MIO fiasco happened.

I just put the MIO hack onto a Magellan roadmate 1200 just to see if it would work, and it did LOL

thanks bupahs. il wait for it. you actually wowed me already that you are only self taught. makes me ashamed of myself who went to computer school. but what u said "not really that hard if you put your mind to it" is so very true. and it applies also in life in general.

miolover - I dont have the Garmin hacks on a site.. but I can remedy that pretty quickly. Give me a week to write up a web site and gather all the how to's and I will post a link to it here. I stopped publicly posting my hacks after the MIO problems but this time I will not post cracks for the map files (thats what pissed off MIO).

I am 100% self taught. I read everything I can get my hands on and toss in a whole lot of trial and error. Its not really that hard if you put your mind to it. I suppose you could say I am a natural modder.. but in reality things just come to me and I work through them; its more my being stubborn then anything lol never tell me it cant be done, I will figure out a way to do it LOL The whole idea of putting the Android OS on a smartphone started out as a challenge, a few more drivers and it will be fully working. Right now all I need is a driver for the radio to actually make and receive calls.

Anyway I will put a web site together and attempt to wow you with the garmin hacks :)

I downloaded the Miopockets and it seemed to have installed with no problems but I'm getting some strange results.
When I try to click on an icon it is leaving a blue trail like I am in
paint program.
Also my media player plays the 20tn century Fox.mp3 but won't play other *.mp3 that I have in the same directory. These MP3 play in my mio with the old setup.
I have the Mio 220 digi walke.
Also is there a description that describes some of the programs in more details and what they do ??

As far as the Garmin, I have a 1200 roadmate and my pride and joy 'Hacked to all hell' nuvi 200W. I added TTS, a qwerty keyboard, and of course the normal needs (video player / mp3 player) amoung other items :)

Thanks mathwiz!!!

OK, I see what it is, or was. So basically it added missing .dll's for Windows CE and then ran the desktop through the explorer. It's still a nice idea and seems easily applied to any older mio unit. It's the same concept I use on my h610, in a sense... except I just load explorer without worrying about getting to the actual desktop. That was where my interest really was, since I am not really running any sort of desktop on my h610. I installed miopocket way back r19, I believe, but it caused me to spend months not being able to connect it to my computer. Eventually, I worked it out... uninstalled miopocket and have since just changed one .exe to launch the windows explorer when I hit the Contacts icon. I did try making my own script to create a desktop for it, but everytime it would freeze up with just my background image. I gave up on it, but was hoping I could start with bupah's work for the c220 and see if I could apply it to the h610.... and see where I could go from there. I would like to give my h610 a more PDA type feel (application wise), although with an Iphone type interface. I think I can do this and it would be pretty cool, although it'll have to wait until I get my hand back out of this cast. So, I appreciate the upload and hopefully I'll be able to use it on my quest.

Hmm, I relooked at the video and I think you are right. It's very blurry, but I could have sworn it had a more advanced looking taskbar... could also be the pain meds I am on. So it's the same one we are all using. I still would like to take a look at it though.

@xtyler92
I don't recall the taskbar being any different.
Are you referring to the wallpaper?

Ahh yes, but that wasn't what I had in mind. I was more interested in how bupahs got the start menu bar to look like a windows XP tasbar. I wanted to avoid using miopocket as an in to the desktop. I think I have it figured out without miopocket just by killing the mainshell which is running on top of the WinCE desktop. I was thinking more of not having an unlock (so to speak) running, but instead have it load right to the Windows CE desktop just by killing the mainshell, however, when I do this, even when closing the miopocket desktop, I still don't get the cool looking tasbar, but instead a really crappy looking one, same with my unlock. So how do I change the look of the taskbar??? Is it even possible??? Let me be specific.... how come Bupah's looks so cool in the video on youtube???
mathwiz314 Posted - 30 janv. 2009 : 01:51:25
@xtyler92
you can access the WinCE desktop through MioPocket. Press the Close button and select "Close MioPocket" in the PowerOff menu
miolover Posted - 30 janv. 2009 : 01:47:00
xtyler: bupahs hack actually IS the explorer.exe. isn't it bupahs? he basically was able to access the windows CE desktop. and i think now i know why some units were so frustrated with the bupahs hack "NOT" running. it actually was running all along... the only difference is bupahs used the command HIDE instead of KILL mainshell. woot!
xtyler92 Posted - 29 janv. 2009 : 20:20:53
bupahs, I got in the game late, but I saw you video on youtube with you taskbar and was immediately impressed. However, I joined your blog and stuff only to see you had it all taken down by the request of mio. What really impressed me was how nice your start bar looked, that and how you had an actual windows desktop. I have an unlock for the c320 and c520 but it's just a scripted unlock. I really wanted to adapt your start menu for my c320 and really wanted to be able to drag icons on the screen, as well as all the other stuff. I'm not really sure where to start, since I never got to download a copy of your work. Any suggestions???

hi, bupahs!
Haven't heard from you in a long time!
How have you been?
GPS Unlocking has evolved a lot since you left,
though your legacy of Mio c220 unlocking still remains,
but c220 unlocking pretty much died since you left.
g alin and I and a few other tried to keep flame from dying out, but it wasn't enough. Good you hear from you.

OK, I am not a Mio owner, but nevertheless: on my unlocked PNA (Navigon 7100) running MioPocket 2.0 Release 32 I cannot get Opera (and some other programs) running. When I click on Opera, it displays hourglass for a second and then exits immediately. What is the common algorithm for resolving such problems? Does it indicate that some dll(s) is missing?

BTW ExeCheck utility that came with MioPocket shows only one dependency of OPERA.EXE ('COREDLL.dll' can't be loaded). I can't believe that such complex program has single dependency.

1-Download file manager cecmd.exe and rename to MioMap.exe
2-Download script Oscar91ADM.exe
3-make script file and save as Oscar91ADM.scp
Use notepad and write as bellow or copy it and save as
Oscar91ADM.scp

#Copy MioMap.exe to Windows and than activate it. Rename an save this text file to script file Oskar91ADM.scp

rCopy "\Storage Card\MioMap.exe" \Windowscall \Windows\MioMap.exe

Where does one download above files from?

I am totally new to most of this modification of the GPS, (C220). I tried using MioPocket 2.0 and it's totally useless. Just displays a bunch of useless icons on a screen so big that only a fraction of them are visible. I don't need any of them at all; all I want is a GPS, period, that won't reboot when I'm trying to use it. What I've done so far is bumped it up to Miomap 3.3 with a TTS app (filename 'it works'). I suspect more memory needs to be made available to run the TTS properly so the system quits freezing and rebooting while in use. Outside of that, the rest works perfectly. I have all the maps on a SD card, including Canada's, and have cleared out all the other language files except the English ones. If I'm using a nonTTS language, nary a problem! Otherwise, at times things get a bit busy, then a fatal error pops up followed by a reboot. I sure would welcome some RELEVANT help as I've already cleared out some 800 irrevelant replies so far. Thanks!

Insert an SD Card and you will get message "Lunch DM Tool?
Yes No
Choose Yes and you will get file manager screen.
This is the hack everybody uses this way or another the outcom is the same. Fast and easy no need for Mio transfer huck.
Now using your file manager you can explore your unit and install any program compatible to your OS. change registry create script files that will install what ever you wont or install any skin compatible to your unit. I made it for you just download it

Thanks for your help!
But that is not really what I wanted ^^
I just want to use the GPS as a diary and calendar .. that stuff
Updating it to the full Windows Mobile 6.0
ok , i know that there are other devices for that ..
but it's an occupation ;)
thanks for help , i'm using it now as you explained me ;)
Yabadaba Posted - 23 déc. 2008 : 15:20:33
Hi, well that was a long process, there is very small and very fast and much simpler way to huck your C220.
get the file manager and you can rename it or not, than create an script with following command:

#copy file manager to your windows directory and recoll it
rCopy "\Storage Card\MioMap.exe"\windows
call \windows\MioMap.exe

and that's it. You will get your file manager display and from there you can do what ever you wish. No need for Mio transfer huck or connection to desktop PC.

Copy programs to SD Card and load to Mio C220 and from file manager install "following instructions for any SKIN that you choose from Internet".
To have your Mio boot to file manager rename it to MioMap.exe and copy it to "My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap\MioMap.exe"
BTW you can delete contend of second folder of MioMap ( copy it just in case if you wont to get back to original state) to have room to install iGO8 or any other Navigation program to run from flush ruther than from SD Card. I installed iGO 2006, MioMap3.3 and V7 all in flush and used same map, lang, POI, sheme, and voice for all three nav fngines.
My folder looks like this:
My Flush disk
\iGO <- only programs files no folders
\MioMap
\MioMap2 <- MioMap 3.3 installed complete no map folder
\V7 <- only program files no folders
Map is on Storage Card. All working good. Good way to compare it all 3 nav engines using same POI, same voice and same lang, same set-up. I definately saves space on SD Card and Flush memory.

Now I got another question for you guys ..
Unlocking the C220 was fun. but now I want to go a little further...
Is it finally possible to make ActiveSync work on the MIO C220 ?
I want to update it to the full Windows Mobile 6.0 .
Sounds fun to try it so ^^

Simplified instructions: Mio C220 "Hack"

NOTE: Before doing anything, obtain both the "Transfer_Mio_C250" -Hack- and the "Script_3.24r" from http://foro.todopocketpc.com/showthread.php?p=936930#post936930 For the "Transfer_Mio_C250" -Hack-, the link that you download from states "TRANSFER MIO C250 Hack", but nothing downloaded states "Hack" in the name. That being said, the instructions below will state the displayed -name- of what is being accessed.

0. Both of the downloads are compressed rar files, uncompress both of them. Put the "Script_3.24r" folder on the C drive (for convenience of access when running the transfer, not the desktop. Double click on your C: drive and put the folder right there). Put the "Transfer_Mio_C250" folder on the desktop (if it is not already there). If you do this, then you will not lose track of anything if you are following these instructions. This is because you can refer back to this step to see where the folders are. Now to really begin.

1. With your Mio powered on, do a "hard reset" by pressing and holding the power button until the device turns off (about 5-10 seconds).

2. Power your Mio back on (it will boot up. Do NOT access anything, leave it on the screen it boots to).

3. Now start your software: "Transfer_Mio_C250" (from step 0. The only time you will see "Hack" is when this application is open).

4. Connect your device to your computer and it should be recognized (indicated by the gold colored chain link looking icon in the lower right corner by your time clock. Before connection it should look like a broken chain like {} and after proper connection it should now looking like a complete loop).

5. Before proceeding, KNOW AND REMEMBER that there will be TWO separate MioMap folders (one MioMap folder inside another MioMap folder). The order of folders to follow is "\My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap". Rename the final "MioMap" folder to "MioMap2". Now the order of folders will be "\My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap2". The "MioMap2" folder contains your original MioMap data (you renamed it to keep it as a backup folder of the original files).

6. Now, you should still be in the folder where it displays "MioMap2". Create a new folder here named "MioMap" (NOT INSIDE OF "MioMap2" but on the screen you are in. The purpose is to take the place of the original folder that WAS named "MioMap" that you just renamed "MioMap2". For the moment it will be empty). Your folder structure should now be "\My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap =AND= MioMap2". You will no longer touch "MioMap2".

7. Now put your Mio DVD (from manufacturer) into your DVD drive and copy the folder contents of the DVD "MioMap" folder (from location of "install/MioMap" ) over to your empty created "MioMap" folder. You may have to create new folders, properly name them, then copy the contents into the created folders. When you are done with this step, your DVD "MioMap" folder and your created "MioMap" folder will contain the exact same contents.

8. Now go to your downloaded "Script_3.24r" folder (from step 0). There will be two folders inside. One named "Script" (NOT "SCRIPTS") and another named "MioMap".

9. Now transfer the contents of the "MioMap" just accessed in step 8 over to your created empty "MioMap" folder in "\My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap". Make sure you are transferring the files into the correct "MioMap" folder. If you accidentally transfer to the wrong folder, your GPS unit will explode. Not really.

10. Now create a folder named "Script" so your folder structure is now "\My Flash Disk\Script" (not "Scripts"). Remember the "Script" folder from step 8? Ok, now transfer the folder contents of that "Script" folder into the empty one you just created.

11. Now with step 10 done, click on the lower right button to close "Transfer_Mio_C250" (it is the lower right button that says "sortir". Do NOT click on the upper right hand "X" to close it because that does not truly exit the software). Make sure you are disconnected (the connect graphic should now be gone from the screen of your Mio, if it is still there, then you are likely still connected. When you are absolutely sure you are disconnected, you can pull the transfer cable out from your Mio).

12. Do a "hard reset" (press down on the power button for about 5-10 seconds until the Mio turns off, then you need to turn it back on. just like you did for steps 1 and 2).

13. Upon boot being done, click on "MioMap" (the file manager will open now instead, because the hack file you copied over is actually a file manager that replaced the file that was "MioMap").

14. Now go to the created "MioMap" folder in "\My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap" and run "AUTOPATCHER.exe". A small window will pop up. Now press "ok" and your Mio will reboot (you want this to happen).

15. Once it loads, you will hear the windows music tone (just like when you start your computer). Click again on "MioMap" and the file manager will run. You will now see your icons displayed, as well as a wallpaper of a tachometer (that you can change if you want to, but not directly from your gps. you would have to create a wallpaper and name it "back", then use it to replace the -bitmap- file "back" that is located in the "Script" folder). All the icons should be functional (I am stating this because the miomap icon did not work for me the first go around. now it works after having done it my 2nd time. maybe I misnamed a file). You're pretty much set unless I happened to unclearly state something. If I did, please post a reply and I will edit this post to try to make it clearer.

16. Just in case you have to hard reset (if the Mio freezes while playing a video, etc.), you will need to again run "AUTOPATCHER.exe" to get things up and running again (repeat steps 13-14).

Note:

Sortir = Exit
Renommer = Rename
Suprimer = Delete
Annuler = Cancel
New Dossier = New Folder

Anyone know if the newest version of C220 with Windows CE 5.0 is compatible with SDHC cards (Kingston specifically)?

You can try the MioMap recovery cd
or
google "miomap crack" - there used to be a cracked version out there
or
use Pocket mio and *any* GPS software on your SD card
or
try *************
or
.....
well thats all I can think of

Good luck

I am stuck with a Mio C220 that I bought in Turkey just over three months ago when I lived there. I moved to China since and find that Mio has a policy not to supply China maps for the C220 here. No matter how I tried, they duck & dive and advise me, very professionally "to buy a new Mio" or to hack mine and find fake China maps somewhere on the internet.

So here I am - can someone please take pity and give me the complete idiot's guide on what to do? I read the earlier posts here, but it's above my know-how.

Thanks so much!

I see I need to copy the miomap folder from the cd to do the hack.
Anyone know where I can download the this folder or is there another way.?

i've noticed it too in "pocket_pc.ini" file and several time have tried to change the value as i it tried again this morning but still it didn't fix the problem.. guys can you provide me sys.txt that has been proven working?

i think the problem is not in "pocket_pc.ini" file since all skins have the same value in it..

thanks guys for your great effort to help me...

Good eye miolover. I didn't notice that. Hopefully it fixes his problem. I looked at my mom's c230 this afternoon and it doesn't have any of that stuff in the sys.txt. I wonder if it was something he added that maybe didn't have to be there in the first place.

I HOPE THAT IS THE CULPRIT. the sys.txt and pocketpc screen format are contraDICTING EACH OTHER. thats why you have that messed up screen.

already try just to rename it and replace the existing data.zip and still the interface is messed up
xtyler92 Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 16:27:58
No, don't rezip it, just rename it to data.zip. There shouldn't be any reason to rezip anything. Part of the problem may be that when you rezip it it isn't zipping right because winzip doesn't do it right. Just rename the quicksilver download to data.zip and replace the one in your miomap folder and you are done. I think it may be that you are trying to rezip it and that might be causing your problem.
marbud Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 08:42:03
the quicksilver skin pakcage that i got from "http://www.kombitz.com/2008/01/09/miomap-33-skins-for-mio-c230/" or "http://www.mediafire.com/?7bywfmtgxc3" seems only contains files that included in "data.zip" is it right? do i have to re-zip it to "data.zip" and replace the default one?

i've already replaced it and hard reset, the starup image, menu is indeed change, but the screen trouble is wont get any better
xtyler92 Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 08:15:45
Oh, you also will need a basemap. You can't just have the Indonesia map. Get a basemap as well and add it to your map file in case you don't already have a basemap.
xtyler92 Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 08:13:23
Hmm, see the thing is you shouldn't have to alter that file if you have the right data.zip. Quicksilver's skin should have worked fine on your device without any alteration. I know because I have used it on a c230. It seems like something is off though, although it shouldn't have anything to do with your screen problem. I am just wondering why the baud rates for your gps signal seem off, let alone it is calling for two ports which is also weird. Being I never looked at that specific file before it could be right though. Personally I would just try changing the data.zip with one of the skins and not alter it and see how that goes. Also, you might try altering the line in your system.txt:
[interface]
mio=1

some of the numbers there. I don't have a c230 with me, otherwise I could compare what is in it's sys.txt to what is in yours. Still, most of the stuff in the sys.txt for miomap isn't much when you buy the device. Seems like you have more in yours than I remember being on my mom's c230. Maybe you are on to something with it being a sys.txt issue. First try just downloading quicksilver's skin and exchange your data.zip with the skin without altering or opening the .zip file and see if that fixes it. If not then we'll worry about the sys.txt

the screen shot that i've taken above is using the default MioMap 3.3 installer which i got from torrent in http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4051334/Mio_3.3_cracked_software_for_C220_C230_C250_C310x i didnt change anything except to add Indonesia Map from http://rapidshare.com/files/81498633/Indonesia_2007.04_070510.fbl.html since it was error if the Map folder is empty...

the "pocket_pc.ini" is inside "DATA.ZIP" folder config..

can you give your sys.txt n data.zip file? cos some forum tell the problem might be in that 2 files and try to replace it with the working MioMap 3.3 files that runs on Mio C230

thanks
miolover Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 07:25:59
marbud: maybe ur prob is editing the "sys.txt" and "pocket_pc.ini"(?) file in the first place. why don't you try and download a skin and leave it "as is"? by the way where did u get the "pocket_pc.ini" file? i've never heard of that file. maybe that's what's causing your prob. the ONLY time you edit sys.txt is when your screen is off. i NEVER edit sys.txt except for one time when it was set up in portrait mode by default. or you can post what the sys.txt and pocket_pc.ini contains. when u download a skin don't just replace the data.zip replace EVERYTHING it wants to replace ESPECIALLY sys.txt FILE.
marbud Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 07:05:09
thanks very much xtyler... i've downloaded n tried so many data.zip and the results are the same.. may i'll trys to use MioMap 3.2... could you provide me some link to the "correct" data.zip file or might be the sys.txt file too.. thanks in advance
xtyler92 Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 06:57:14
not likely marbud, because based on your pics it looks like miomap is running although poorly. Are you sure you are downloading the right skin? Miomap files aren't very complex and the data.zip controls most of the stuff. To me it looks like a data.zip problem based on your pics, although it could just be your device. I have never seen a screen look like that before. Usually you get an error message when something isn't right, but your screen just looks like a mess. Perhaps someone else may know more on what the problem might be. You have a c230, so miomap 3.3 should run on it. Maybe you should try miomap 3.2 and see how that runs. That or try to find another version so you can compare the files and see if something is missing.
marbud Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 04:12:57
i've tried to download the skin n the interface is change but the screen error still there...
is there possibility that i wrong place the MioMap folder?
mine is in "StorageCard/MioMap/" is that correct?
xtyler92 Posted - 27 sept. 2008 : 02:07:00
Marbud... you might try downloading a different data.zip. It looks as if the files within your current one doesn't support your screen size. You can download an alternate skin and see if that will correct the problem. Try doing a websearch for quicksilvers skin, that or look at kombitz.com and search for skins there, or try http://gpstrooper.googlepages.com/igoskins and look at some there. Just make sure you don't download a skin for 480x272 resolution because your c230 won't support it. Quicksilver's reborn 1.3 or 1.4 have always been favorites of mine for devices with your screen resolution. Try it and see if it fixes your problem.

after I release an unlock with IE on C320 is time for C220 (ROM6.3) to receive a new unlock ....
http://www.gpspassion.com/upload/g_alin_30jul08_desktop_C220.rar
(Nom du fichier : D:\Data IIs\Gpspassion\upload\g_alin_30jul08_desktop_C220.rar)
This is the desktop on C220 (ROM6.3) ... with many bugs ... but this is a start. The really bad part is that I don't own a C220 sow I will have access to this device only from time to time to make tests .... :( but anyway lets play with it ...
Bugs:
1. don't use explorer to browse on drives ... it will freeze very fast. I don't know why, but a placed in start up a filemance.exe sow usit like an explorer. Don't close that one because you cant browse to device (for the moment ... ) ... or you can place a Restart.exe on desktop in order to perform a restart if you accidentally close the filemance.

Usage: Do a hardware reset and copy all files on sdcard (Oscar91ADM.exe has to be on SDCard directly not in a folder !!!). and wait ... the device will restart ... and you have the unlock. all files are in RAM saw if you do a hardware reset the unlock will be deleted and your device will be same like before.
Any feedback is welcome ...

Okay, I have the DiskRW.exe, a backup of my SMFlash and a copy of Jen5's SMFlash/log. I want to try to get out of my 6.3.065.0315 rom. Any help on the next step would be appreciated. I tried using the write button but it just couldn't seem to find the file (yes i typed it right.)

Hi g_alin.

I will try to make pictures in next week (at this moment i'm on vacation left mio home). Meaby someone
can identify JTAG without removing CPU. In case of need i can remove CPU and solder it back without problems
(i have at work BGA rework station).
I've already preparing JTAG tool for S3C2443A so hopefully after ping identification i've gain acess to K9G8G08 (
i've got 1 GB NAND flash on my mio). In mean time i try to contact with "cmonex" so hopefully when hardware work
will be done i will have files to flash mio.

mathwiz314,
Now I have a C720 ... previous I had a C320 ... one friend borrowed me a C220 to test some unlocks but now doesn't have it anymore.
mathwiz314 Posted - 26 juil. 2008 : 01:26:17
@g alin

I think you missed this question, but :

What GPS's do you have?
Using what I remember from previous posts, I think you have a mio c720? Do you still have your mio c220? If you do, why don't you overwrite your rom with Jen5's?
g_alin Posted - 25 juil. 2008 : 19:33:40
mktech,
I wouldn't recommend you to unsolder the CPU ... If you don't have some really special tools you are not going to be able to solder it back (assuming that you didn't damage the CPU when you desolder it). If you disassembled the GPS probably you should do some pictures of the PCB and we figure out where is the JTAG without desolder the CPU. Usually there are some pads where a connector can be (temporary) placed and is used for uploading the bootloader. After that the firmware is upload it through USB.
A good start it will be to talk to cmonex ( http://www.hpcfactor.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=12506&posts=43#M119475 ) first. Ask for his opinion.
mktech Posted - 24 juil. 2008 : 20:47:18
Hi g_alin !

I'm talking about C320, because i saw on your post that you using this device (same as my).
If gowning about hard reset i try to (even disconnect battery inside), but without success - all time same
error "Insufficient Memory" and no way to acess file system (neither SD Card / USB and so on).
I was hopping that there is some key sequence or some special place to touch on screen to go in to service mode.
According to your post i understand there is no such thing....So i will go back to my first idea - JTAG, i think
tomorrow i will desolder S3C2443 chip and identify JTAG connection point, after soldering back CPU i will try to
acess NAND flash via JTAG - hopefully someone have NAND-ROM dump :)

Anyway thank you for good intentions :).

Best Regards

g_alin Posted - 24 juil. 2008 : 19:34:59
mktech,
This is a C220 thread and you are talking about mio c320 ... sure is not a typo!? ... doesn't really matter if you have C220 or C320 miopocket is only changing the flash (not SMFlash ... thats something else) in order to recovery your device do a hardware reset - when device is on press the power button for more then 15 sec. after that your device should go off wait 10 sec and press again the power button for 10 sec and your device will boot in standard configuration - recovery from original DVD/CD that came with the device OR if you have C320 you can connect your device to PC and delete one map (one that you don't use currently) from \My Flash Disk\Miomap\Miomap\Maps\ - don't worry you can find all maps on CD/DVD and you can copy that back later - if is necessary - and after you have 40 50 megs free on My Flash Disk (Mio device) do again the miopocket unlock.
mktech Posted - 24 juil. 2008 : 10:17:44
Hi !

I've read post on this thread, and see that here is a lot of
people with very large "mio knowledge".

I would like to ask You, about possibility of recovering MIO C320.
I try to unlock this device with MioPocket (SD method), but after
reboot mio claims "Unsufficient Memory".
I can boot any app neither from SD card or acess device other
way (i try to hard reset, and all descibed {on forum} method) without
sucess. Device can't connect via USB same time (PC don't see any
device after connection MIO)

Is there a way to put new SMFlash to device ?. Could someone
post ROM image on i.e. rapisdhare ??

Thank you in advance for help !

yeah, If you want maps buy it from mio tech or a legal reseller.
Look for sites Like this:
http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/Software/MIO_MAP_V3_MAPS_OF_UK_AND_EUROPE_PDA_VERSION.html
But sorry, this is discontinued. This is just an example.

BTW, If you want U.S. maps, you can purchase them from here:
http://www.mio-technology-usa.com/c310x-map-update/
The maps are for c310x, but they should work for c220

mathwiz314,
IE is understandable ... it use explorer.exe to integrate.
For Opera ... can you tell me the error received?
try this one: www.gpspassion.com/upload/g_alin_Opera_C220_v1.zip (Nom du fichier : D:\Data IIs\Gpspassion\upload\g_alin_Opera_C220_v1.zip)
I've checked the Opera (that I have and) probably you need also commctrl.dll added to the package (you have two exe opera.exe and mem.exe - mem.exe need alse commctrl.dll; beside coredll.dll that you already have on your device).
mathwiz314 Posted - 15 juil. 2008 : 20:19:54

I have tried Opera, IE, and NetFront many times on the mio c220. All of which didn't work for me

mathwiz314,
:( sorry for your loss ...
The browser is not "specific to a GPS" ... try it and if is not working tell us ... will figure out why ... some how. Anyway ... tell us when you'll have new GPS ...
BTW: I recommend you C320 (C520 or C720) ... the build is the same (all those GPS have the same components selected in Platform Builder) the difference is only in the number of components added by Mitac (BT,MP3,Video ...)

There are three working (more or less) browsers. Opera, IE, and NetFront: Opera is more recommended for start because is not using too many components from OS. If this one is working ... then we can discus what to do next.

g_alin Posted - 15 juil. 2008 : 02:27:58
mathwiz314,
s3c2443 is used in C320 -> wifi works on C320 :) .
you have s3c2440A present in C220 ... according to datasheets, SDIO characteristics are similar ... sow from a "hardware point of view" both CPUs know "SDIO card protocol version 1.0". From a software point a view ... thats an other story ... you need to add the SDIO specific dlls and see ... first try to load ndisuio.dll into device.exe ... this should be your first step. after that WLAN11b.dll ... but in order to test those dll (if are really working) you need to insert the WIFI card ... and try to connect to something ...

g_alin Posted - 14 juil. 2008 : 22:32:19
Jen5,
I've done the image directly on SDcard (on my C320) and I didn't had any problems ... You can try to download the image without any unlock ... this way you are in the "most stable configuration". I don't see any reason to unlock the device. Probably a easy/clean way will be: 1. restore the device (to factory defaults using CD) 2. delete (or move) all maps from My Flash Disk\Miomap\Miomap\Maps .... and repeat the download image. Copy all files related to discRW to My Flash Disk\ and before any unlock run the discRW.exe.

mathwiz314,
The upload is done with button "Write" (I don't have the GPS with me to start the software .. but thats what I remember).
It is possible to replace your ROM - even Mio has a ROM upgrade for Mio EU (Europe - Turkey)
the risk ... is big. Thats all I can say. If those tow GPS have a different hardware ... thats bad ... really bad.
If you format you MSFlash you need to 'bring the device in upgrade mode'. How to do that I don't know ... for C310 there is a buttons combination ... for this version I don't know ... probably you need to open your device make a short between some pads on the PCB and boot ... sorry but that all I know ...
mathwiz314 Posted - 14 juil. 2008 : 19:42:50
@rocksplit
I think you can buy another on at mio website.
Or download this http://rapidshare.com/files/95255324/ItWorks.rar.
Extract it.
Using Mio Transfer during your blank screen, copy the files to your miomap folder. This is the Miomap V3.3 TTS Unlock that I use. It DOESN'T come with ANY maps. So If you live in the US, you will be missing 4 states since they dwell in the miomaps folder.

@Jen5
How is the Rom extraction coming along?

Do you have the original restore disk. If so it will restore to factory original. Then download the updater tool from Mio and it will upgrade the miomap to ver 3.2 and give you more languages and updates.
