[i]Edit[/i]: OK, working up some courage, I decided to press onward- held the Soft reset button down while doing a Hard reset:

The "Power" key cycles between the choices, and it turns out that the "select" key to actually implement it is the "Soft Reset" button.  Pressing "Soft reset" with Choice 3 selected leads you to another screen:

1=UBOOT Upgrade
2=BT Test
3=Other Tools

Continuing (I'm doing this real time...), using the Soft Reset button to select Choice #3, we get yet another menu:

0=Memory Test
1=ROM Checksum
2=Gps Test
3=Gps Updating
4=Download FAT Raw
5=Upload FAT Raw
6=Format Flash for BINFS
7=NAND_Tools
8=Exit[/b]

Do I dare proceed - hey, in the interests of science, why not...

Well, I tried the Soft reset key on Choice 0, it did a "walking bit" and "writing 0's" memory test.  I then tried to use the Power key to cycle to the other choices, it wouldn't let me do it (I might have just been impatient) so I did a Hard Reset and worked my way back to this menu.  Used the Power key then to select Choice 8 (Exit) - this takes you back to the "UTool S2x0" menu.

Working my way back to the last menu, I selected Choice 7: NAND_Tools:

At the bottom of the screen (menu still visible), appeared a 3-line display:

NAND Flash Check Ecc
Block xxxx[/b][/center]

The "xxxx' started counting upwards at about 20 blocks/second, obviously doing a diagnostic, stopping at 8191 (2^13).  Pressing the Power button [i]twice[/i] appeared to get me back into the selection mode.

OK, I've played enough.  Didn't do anything destructive, but didn't push my luck either.  Anybody else out there with the [i]cajones[/i] to continue?  We have a genuine "[i]Easter egg[/i]" here (and just in time for Easter...), all we need to do is explore it further.

Supremo	Posted - 13 oct. 2010 : 06:20:59 No, it doesn't solve the problem. But once you have the unit apart, you can check and maybe fiddle with the soft reset contacts to see if they are shorted. Figure 4 of the article you found shows the "hard reset" switch. As I recall, the "soft reset" recessed button is right next to it. *If those contacts are shorted, then every time you power the unit up with the hard reset button you will enter the Utility menu !* I don't have my units handy to do anything further (I'm on travel), but you should be able to at least see if anything is shorting those contacts "permanently". If so- remove the short.

Supremo	Posted - 10 oct. 2010 : 02:39:50 This may be a long shot, but if you look on page 1 of this topic you'll see the way to "force" a C310x to do this. It's possible that your soft reset button is "stuck" and is forcing this behavior. You mind want to search out the topics within Mio forum, as I recall there are directions as how to take the unit apart and reassemble. I think it was under a topic about speaker repair. If you can't find it I'll try to dig it up in my archives when I have time.
