GPS_Redirect Version 0.2 (Jan 10, 2006) by Nikhil Kapur (nikhil@kapurs.net)
Introduction ============
GPS Redirect is an application for HP IPAQ 6515 that lets you use the GPS built into the IPAQ from an external device over bluetooth. This is useful if you want to run a PC based GPS application on your Notebook PC and use the 6515 as a Bluetooth GPS device.
Requirements ============ The application is written in VB and uses Microsoft .NET Compact framework v2.0 . You need to install the Compact framework available from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9655156B-356B-4A2C-857C-E62F50AE9A55&displaylang=en
Usage ===== 1. Make sure you install the .NET Compact Framework from the above link. 2. Copy the GPS_Redirect.exe file to the IPAQ and run it. 3. Ensure Bluetooth is on and Connect Bluetooth Serial port from PC to IPAQ. (Note: Depending on your bluetooth stack this step may happen automatically when you run step 4.) 4. Start GPS application on PC and make sure it uses the Bluetooth serial port above. (The app will show messages on the IPAQ saying its connected etc.) 5. Enjoy!
Notes ===== You can keep the app always running in the background. When it detects that the Bluetooth port is opened, it will start the GPS and start sending data. When the Bluetooth port is closed, it stops the GPS (i.e. battery is not wasted when GPS is not being used by the PC).
A caveat here is that is you stop Bluetooth on the device, the app will terminate. THis is due to a acknowledged design flaw by Microsoft which prevents me from handling the exception and prevent termination. You can of course immediately restart the app.

Posted - 29 sept. 2006 : 21:35:26 Hi, I'm trying the program on a new generation model HW6910. Unfortunately it gives the error messages after pressing "Start": IO exception. Bluetooth off? Waiting for bluetooth to be enabled...
But BT is enabled and MapPoint2006 can see Com6 that is shown as configured for Output on the HW6910. BT-PPC/PE Version 1.7.1.7800
Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot this issue?
Thx Michael |

Just to confirm, you are connecting the bluetooth serial port from the PC to the 6515 correct? i.e. Using the Widcomm Bluetooth taskbar icon Right CLick/Quickconnect/Bluetooth Serial Port/<PocketPC>.
The serial ports used when the connection is from the 6515 to the PC are different so the program wont work in that mode. Other than that I cant think of anything offhand that could be wrong. It was developed uing a PC with Widcomm and it works quite well with it.

Posted - 27 avr. 2006 : 14:56:58 That did the trick for me as well.
Works well with MS Map Point 2004.
Thanks |

Posted - 27 avr. 2006 : 10:52:20 Fantastic - works a charm, had one little moment with a crash message, but tried Hyperterminal and saw loads of data coming through, so adjusted baud rate and I'm away. Thanks very much

Posted - 27 avr. 2006 : 07:57:21 I've made a new build of the software. Please try and see if this works for you. http://www.gpspassion.com/upload/GPS_redirect_V0.3.zip
Its weird but it had stopped working for me too. I'm guessing they updated something in the firmware? Anyway, some debugging revealed that the "BytesToRead" property of the GPS port always returns 0 (even when there is data to read). I've changed the code so that it doesn't do a check and always reads 1024 byte chunks.
Lemme know how it goes. - Nikhil |

Posted - 25 avr. 2006 : 20:35:06 Just thought I'd add that I know I have my Belkin BT kit set up OK as I can Activesync over it fine, headset works fine and another BT GPS receiver I borrowed also works fine over the virtual serial port. |

Posted - 25 avr. 2006 : 18:47:37 I've had the same results as BigMac. With the same 2.03 version. I don't get any data in Hyperterminal either. I'm using a 6515h.
I'm trying to get it to work with MS MapPoint 2004. Mappoint timesout even before GPSRedirect logs any connections.
Would the Widcomm driver maybe help? If so were would I get it?
Thanks. |

Posted - 25 avr. 2006 : 18:28:01 I'm a bit of a GPS newbie, so quite prepared to accept I'm getting this all wrong, but I've been hunting for a day or so now...
I've got a HP6515c and I'm trying to use the GPS with a bluetooth connection to my laptop. I have GPS redirect installed and carried out the update to QuickGPS2.03, but...
I can't get data across the virtual com port onto my laptop. The connection gets established OK but trying both GPS utility and GPSS trial software on win XP I get no data. I tried connecting up Hyperterminal and <nothing> through.
GPS_redirect seems to be behaving and is giving seemingly normal Bluetooth port connected! GPS Port opened. Sending data...
and I know I get satellite positions from the installed TomTom software and VirtualGPSCE, so there should be data available.
Any suggestions anyone? Please. |

Posted - 24 avr. 2006 : 18:12:24 Nikhil, Still doesn't work. When I start the GPS in Streets and trips it disconnects and then reconnects starting the whole procedure over again.
