Keyboard access to full screen mode in iGuidance 2.1

EDIT: This tweak is no longer needed in iGuidance 2.1.1 which introduced F-key to toggle full screen mode.

Users of the laptop version of the new iGuidance 2.1 have one annoyance to deal with: there is no way to toggle the new Full Screen View mode with a keyboard shortcut. Attempting to move a mouse pointer to the exact position where the small full screen button is may not be quite safe at a high rate of speed ;-)

I just managed to modify iguidance.exe file to add Ctrl+F shortcut for this function. And to make it even simpler I also added a new F-key function to iGkeys.

I'm not going to publish here the modified iguidance.exe file because the developer of this navigation software could object to that (even though the one file alone would be useless to anybody unless they own the the whole software). However I will share here step by step a simple procedure how you too can do it.

After you have modified the iguidance.exe file, and after you have installed the newest version of iGkeys, you will have a single key access to turning on / off full screen view mode just by hitting F-key on your keyboard.

1. First step is to download ResHacker >>here<<

2. Backup (copy & paste to a different folder) iguidance.exe before you do anything. This is always a good idea ;-)

3. Start ResHacker, and on the Menu bar click File > Open. Navigate to iguidance.exe which you will likely locate in C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance

4. As shown on the above picture, open Accelerators folder and navigate to the 1033 file. Add this: "^F", 3074 as shown on the picture. Press "Compile Script" button above, and then click Save (Menu bar > File > Save). (Make sure iGuidance is closed before you attempt to save, or it will not save.)

Congratulations, now you can start iGuidance 2.1 and Ctrl+F will toggle full screen mode for you. However, I do not like Ctrl+F. It is simpler to just use a single key shortcut. Continue to next step:

5. Download newest version of iGkeys >>here<<. It will let you toggle full screen mode just by hitting F-key on your keyboard. (Provided you have modified iguidance.exe as described above.)

If you do not feel comfortable doing any of the above, please do not do it.

I created 4 diferent colors in all default sizes.
I used Restorator 2007 to edit my iGuidanceNPC.exe, the following are the bitmaps you will need to edit:

I have this in my theme.ini file.

But zoom 6 and up still do not show more roads. I had accomplished this in my last version, 4.0. Now I have 4.1.

That's correct, the .ini file is not there after you install the program. However, you may easily create your own theme.ini file by following instructions in this thread. Go to page #1 of this thread, and in the list look-up an item titled "Create your own first theme.ini file".

I have recorded a great 22K voice (Snd folder) for my IG4 and tried both TTS options above (works great)
However, I would like to know if there is a way to "force" IG to use the Win XP default voice? rather then use then "RealSpeakSolo" in the IG folder.

Guys.. This thing is driving nuts... it's that arrow location.. i replaced it with a donkey icon and it's not positioning right... It's blocking the current road name... What should i do?... I even left out some space below the icon when saved, so it will shift up a little.. didn't make any difference.... By the way, it only happens in 3D mode, Help??

I tried to attach a screen capture.. don't know how...

Dan, I wouldn't call it a "big" difference between v3 and v4, but it all depends on individual needs/wants, etc. Version 4 has 6 million POIs versus about a million and a half in the old v3. But if you've used iGo you may also miss how iGo lets you search for POIs.

I'm afraid there is nothing I can think of that would help you with your original question :-(

Yes, I would like to be able to just load (or display) the cities I work in. That way, when you look up a street you are only looking at a list of streets in the areas you have defined. I like having all the states loaded; that is why I thought that having a “MyState” (or MyAreas as one of the States) you could control the number of cities to search in. I guess I got accustomed to the iGo way of looking up a destination. iGo keeps a list of recent cities in a selection window. It makes searching for an address much faster.
Is there a big difference between V3 and V4?

Are you saying you would like to install just some cities, or a portion of a state, to simplify your search? I think this was possible in versions 1, 2, and 3, but the current version 4 requires to install the whole of USA/Canada.

It sure seems that you are the guy to talk to about getting options / tweaks done! I am new to Iguidance, and have an idea that many may like.

For new destinations I find keying in a city name each time tedious,so what I'd like to do is have a State (MyState) that would only contain cities that I enter into it. Destinations would be much faster and easier to locate and only contain streets that are in the area I work in.

I find that searching by Street First returns far too many results and can be slower than searching by City First.

Hi Marvin,

I have another idea of customizing iguidance, just not sure whether it's possible or not. I would like to see iguidance display the battery level (especially the ppc version) because ig runs in full screen and there are few times that it runs down my mio's battery completely. Is it possible to allow iguidance to show battery level inside the program?

the theme now works. It didn't like the zoom levels. I changed them and it works fine. I still have road width, max detail, max city names working.

Well, ended up with 4.0. No big deal. I do like it better in a couple ways:

1) On my Pharos 600 GPS PDA cellphone, it doesn't close iGuidance when I touch the screen anymore. In version three, it was a time thing. I could start the program and touch the screen within a minute or so to enter address, or whatever, full functionality, but after about 1 minutes, if you touched the screen, it would close itself. It wasn't too much of an inconvience since once I got the address in, I used hot keys.

2) TTS is nice, but I will do the registry hack to always use TTS and not the mix. That sounds bad when voice changes. However, the TTS voice is pretty understandable.

3) Updated maps

4) More POIs. Using them already.

5) I can now put all maps on my 2GB Pharos 600 GPS/PDA/Cellphone where I couldn't fit it before (almost though).


1) POIs are difficult to use. I want Walmart, I can't search. I can search all retail stores within 25 miles and look for walmart. If I can find walmart under all, then it doesn't say which is closer. The first one listed isn't closest. So, if there are none within 25 miles, then listing all brings up a ton, but you have no Idea which is closer. They just need a key word search through all POIs, not just in a specific catagory. I needed a hobby store today. Well, that was a pain. Is it under electronics, retail, specialty, etc??? If it doesn't start with the word hobby, it wont find it either like Bob's Hobbies. I like the 6 m POI, but needs a lot of work to go with it. The 6 M poi was a big reason for me to upgrade since 1.2 M is a waste.

2) THEME.INI doesn't work from my previous 3.01 version.
Favorites worked earlier today, but now its not. Go figure, just a continuous spinning icon.

3) Installing all on 1.3 G memory card now wihtout mapcutter is not good since I can't put it on my Samsung i760 phone. The pda has a 4 gb transflash, but I have 3.2 gb installed already. Now I cannot install just Colorado or something. Real bummer. My phone doesn't recognize anything over 4 gb. I installed a hack to read over 2gb and it works perfect, but still, now I need over 4gb for IGuidance install.

It was worth the $$ to upgrade though.

check this out yo. I know when it come to navation software, this might not be important element, but this app brings some kick ass looking interface and visual.
It shows buildings in 3D like you are in a different world. Koreans use this for their CarPC and UMPC. It's pretty fast too with all that graphics. I wish iNav come up with something like this pretty soon... ^^

Each new version (even a minor release such as for example 3.01) always includes full application installation. That's the reason installation always prompts you to uninstall. So to answer your question, you do not have worry about needing your old DVD or anything else. Once you have the new DVD, that is all you need.

I haven't heard about 4.1, but iNav already mentioned version 4.01 to be out soon

Quick question. I have V3, on a 3 month trip, don't have CDs. If I purchase upgrade, will I need V3 to install V4 aka windows upgrade? I have registered V3 on the igudance website with its serial number. How long do you suspect till v4.1 or similar comes out? Anyone care to discribe the new POI data base? Can I find Auto zone, walmart, target, etc by typing "walmart" or must I search for shopping and then scroll through a list? I used to have Teletype (sucked bad), but they had a 12 million POI database!!! That was nice.

WooHoo! Thank you! It works exactly on the PC as does your PDA.

Using the following:

in 2D mode the guidance is at zoom level 100. I did not test the 3D, as I find that I use it rarely in the car.

For pocketPC, the guidence screen use zoom level 2 with 2D map and zoom level 3 with 3D map. I changed the zoom level 2 to 400ft instead the original 200ft to keep the turn arrow wthin the screen. I don't know if that help with your pc.

Ha ha, I didn't know Esc did it, too. I never use the Guidance screen myself (I turned it off permanently :) However, my wife does use it on her PND :)

Silly??!?! Wow, thats the kind of simple thinking I like! I just didn't think of it :)

That would be very easy to implement, as the ESC key will kick you out of the Guidance screen, back to the normal screen.

The only think lost in the process is the "Countdown indicator / bar" on the right, but it's worth it I think.

John, how about, as a silly work-around, to just automate it all a bit more. When it switches to guidance screen, you switch it back. In the "laptop" version ArrowLeft and ArrowRight are built-in hotkeys to do that. Those two keys have a different function in the UMPC/CarPC version, though. You could still achieve the same even in that version by going to View => Map

@Marvin Hmmm interesting thought, but when guidance comes up, the street widths revert to some really wide pen size, and zooming into the map at that point, would look pretty bad.

I had not seen this mentioned, so figured one of 3 things, 1) no one cared, 2) no one really tried it as of yet, or 3) that it just wasn't possible. Looks to be more like 3 now.

Thanks for the help, Its much appreciated. Now to see if there is another way to detect the guidance mode somehow, Some sort of other trigger, without switching to the purple bordered guidance pane.

microunit, these settings get written to the registry upon exiting iGuidance. Try re-installing iGuidance. Before re-installing, do not delete the map folder, just uninstall the application, and then re-install it (it should take only a couple of minutes.

JohnWPB, I'm afraid I haven't heard of any user yet modifying the zoom level of the map in the guidance mode. Remember iGzoom by 0l33l? I wonder if that (or a similar application) could be used somehow to zoom the portion of the screen.

Ok, my first post on these forums :) I am certainly no noob to forums, iG, reshacking. and creating custom scripts to manipulate iG.
(I am a mod over at the MP3Car site, and the creator of the DIgitalFX skin for Road Runner).

I have been using the hacks, theme.ini stuff from this forum for a couple years now.

Now on to the question :)

Is there a way to change the zoom level for the guidance pane screen? When I am looking for a turn in a busy area, I have the zoom level set to max, however when the guidance pane comes up, it zooms out quite a bit, making it hard to tell the distance to a turn, and usually results in braking to early (Which really ticks off people behind you!), or slamming on the brakes to make the turn :)

Turning off the guidance option is not really an option, as that is how Road Runner is "aware" of an upcoming turn, and will take you automatically to the GPS screen, when approaching a turn. (Just like the OEM systems do in vehicles these days). Road Runner uses a screen pixel color mode to detect the purple color of the guidance pane screen to do this.

Hello, everyone. Lately I installed IG4 on my PPC. I have persisted problem which I have to do the baud rate(38400 instead of 4800), local time(-3 hours), distance unit(KM) setup when I cold boot the system. Is there any way to save the settings? I have successfully created my own theme.ini file following your instructions on Page 5, which was a great experience. However, when I decided to increase the map font size to something, say 18, all the local streets are normal; the problem is the highway symbol. The highway numbers get magnified accordingly but the highway symbols remain the original size. Therefore the highway numbers no longer fit in the symbols, and some of the numbers are difficult to read now due to that. Is there a way to increase the high symbol size accordingly in the theme.ini file? Or some other tricks, such as ResHack, are required?

This one is an oddity. By now, everyone has probably discovered that you can search for "A0 FF A0" to find the in-map nighttime street-name color (located at 0x8412D in iGuidanceUMPC.exe v3), but changing it to the desired color may cause the daytime color to change to an undesired color.

There are acutally two addresses involved in this. The first DWORD, located at 0x84126 contains "60 00 5F FF". The second is the one most are already familiar with, located at 0x8412D, containing "A0 FF A0 00".

The second location seems to be always respected as the night-time street name color. The interesting part happens when the daytime color is created. The routine appears to add the two locations together to produce the daytime color.

So, say you want a nice "white" color for your night-map street names. You replace "A0 FF A0 00" with "FF FF FF 00", but the daytime color ends up as a disgusting purple. Let's look at the addition:
+60 00 5F FF
=01 60 00 5E FF

From this point it gets tricky. The bytes greater than DWORD (01) seem to get stripped, so we're left with "60 00 5E FF". The last byte seems to be used as some sort of alpha value. The "60 00 5E" produces the ugly purple we see, while the FF seems to ensure that the purple is displayed at full intensity.

Oddly, if the last byte is less than "FF", the daytime color addition rules above don't seem to be followed. If anyone knows how to clarify these "rules" please post.

For those so inclined, what actually seems to be happening is that the "ecx" register is being initialized to "00 00 00 00" for nighttime, and "FF FF FF FF" for daytime. Then the first value is AND'ed to ecx, then the second value is ADD'ed to ecx. Anything AND'ed to zero = zero, so the second loc is added to zero, thus respecting the "nighttime" value. For daytime, any DWORD AND'ed to "FFFFFFFF" results in itself, then the second loc is added. Why the last byte must be "FF" when the program doesn't seem to respect alpha values elsewhere is beyond me. Also, how the day color seems to end up as "5F 00 5F", when it should actually be "60 00 5E" is something I also don't understand.

Anyway, I hope this helps everyone in their iG3 customization efforts.

Perhaps re-post your question in a hardware section of the forum. Someone familiar with your device may offer a helpful hint. I see no reason why iG shouldn't work if at least two other programs do work.

My device works perfectly with TomTom 6 and Mio v3.2. The only reason I like iGuidance is because it speaks out street name and that helps avoid confusion when I come to freeway intersection where there are three other freeways merged. Both Mio and Tomtom are very confusing when they just tell me to just keep left or right.

I used the ResHacker to change the resource in iGuidance v4.0, the ResHacker hung up when it was attempting to save the new changes. Is it because the iGuidanceUPMC.exe block the saving? or ResHacker just simply does not work with iGuidance v4.0?

Thanks so much for replying to my email. I've tried all hardware com ports all the way from 0-9. The software com port should be managed by Windows Mobile 5 or Windows Mobile 6. I still could not get my device to work. The only different that I see is that you have Windows Mobile 5 on your and my device is running on Windows Mobile 6. I probably will flash my device back to Windows Mobile 5 to see what happen. In anycase, I'll let you know.

My iPaq has a built in GPS receiver too and it works for me when I set the com port to COM7. WM5 manages the GPS COM port and I think the default is 7. You can also change the registry setting to gain access to the GPS Control Panel (

Can someoned please help me? I installed iGuidance v4 on my O2 XDA Orbit. The program would run normally, but having problem receiving GPS signal. My device has built in GPS receiver. I choose auto dectect com port option. iGuidance recognized the com port as com4 at 4800baud. The amber light flashing which means the program recognized the gps receiver, but kept saying "waititng for gps signal...". If you have any clue on this problem, please help. Thanks.

The four orientationoptions were available in the original iG3 but were gone after the patch. I was hoping that they would put it back in v4 but they didnt.

I took the plunge and opened the iGuidanceQVGA.exe file with ResHack, but I was unable to find which of the dialog corresponds to the route list screen. I can find almost all other screens. After consulting my programmer friend, he suggested the best way to do this is to find a decompiler, do the fix, then recompile it. It sounds too much trouble to me for a small annoyance.

I also found that if I click the very right portion of the green bar during navigation mode it does not bring up the route list; only the center of the green bar is assigned to that function. Therefore if I'm careful on the return button I should be fine.

Truthfully I wasn't even aware you could cycle through 4 options tapping on the arrow in iG3. I though there were only two options.

Instead you could just assign the needed functions to hardware buttons on your device. On my PDA phone I have assigned three buttons to do the following functions:

* Toggle north-up / heading-up
* 2D / 3D
* Full-screen mode

(This iGuidance feature can be found in the PDA version by going to Tools > Hotkey Options)

In Iguidance 3.0 (PPC) the user had an opportunity to select show the user the direction of travel by two means:

* Red compass arrow which would rotate indicating north
* A box with an arrow pointed up, populated with the direction i.e. N / NW etc..

Iguidance 3.0 would allow the user to tap the screen on the arrow / directional box, giving four options dependant on the orientation (Heading or North):

* Red compass arrow (Orientation - North)
* Red compass arrow (Orientation - Heading)

* Directional box (Orientation - North)
* Directional Box (Orientation - Heading)

Iguidance 4.0 (PPC) seems to only allow for two of the options:

* Red compass arrow (Orientation - Heading)
* Directional box (Orientation - North)

I prefer to utilize the option for my orientation to be set for heading, and also having the directional box showing me my direction with the N / S /E / W visuals.

Any ideas for a fix.

STW - street name font weight. I tried that in v4 and it doesn't work. I never tried it in v3 so I can't say that it worked there either. Do you know of a way to increase the font weight in v4?

You seem to be the person who knows the entire program from inside out (and is that true that you don't work for Inav?), that's why I posted the question here. You probably have noticed the same question at the end of the ig4 thread in mionav forum, but no one could have the answer.

And yes, I remember no one has done it. I have read every single message in that 18 pages, and this is the only thing that's preventing me from upgrading.

Thank you for the suggestions. The "route list" bug is well documented on the forum:

What happens is when iGuidance 3 is running on Mio C310x (win CE 4.2 core) and when the route list is being displayed, Mio C310x will lock up. It also happens on other win CE 4.2 based systems too. Someone has contributed this to the four missing DLL files (the download link is in the first post).

The only way to avoid the problem is not to use the "route list" function. However since the return button for other screens locates on the upper-right corner, and if accidentally tapped more than once, it's likely the green bar on the top of the screen will be tapped, which will bring up the route list and then the sudden death.

As far as this thread points out, iguidance 4 has the same bug:

If there is a registry tweak or file change that would prevent the route list from being displayed, then the problem may be solved. That is why I asked about disabling the route list. I generally look at the zoomed-out map so route list isn't really necessary for me.

Wearefree, what exactly is the issue on Mio? I'm only aware of the annoyance when a user comes to the destination and iGuidance asks if to continue to another destination. If you are referring to this, then you could try to disable the "route list" (or "itinerary") function by first deleting all the stops from itinerary, and then setting ininerary.dat as read-only. The description of this procedure is on page # 19 and here is the direct link: It's also in the index on page # 1. But if you are referring to some Mio-specific issue, then I may not be of help. Hopefully others will be able to give you feedback on that.

Seems all of us who wish to try Iguidance on mio has to suffer the "route list" bug. Is it possible to disable the "route list" function in iguidance completely? This way at least one doesn't have to suffer the sudden death during driving. I personally do not use that function anyways. Thanks!

Enrique, don't take my word for it, but I think a feature has a better chance of appearing in a future version of iGuidance if it can also benefit users of PND's based on this software.

In iG4 I see no new power management or Bluetooth options, unless I'm overlooking something. It would be nice to have the option to tell the program to keep the display on when navigating, (but when navigating I almost always have it plugged into the cigarette outlet, and that keeps the display on anyway :-)

You probably are right with that but I made that button in the beginning to originally be used for a regular button and never intended to use it for the ones with the additional graphic image but I guess I was a bit lazy and possibly hasty. I think at this point it would take way too much time to edit each and everyone of the icons since I would have to come up with the template and then overlay the images one by one. If someone wants to do this, be my guest. I still have all the separate images that were used.

It took me a while but I custom made everyone of them (the icons themselves coming from random sites and Icon Packages). Took me a couple months to get them looking like this.

This is for UMPC. I use this on my laptop and external 7" touchscreen monitor.

Sorry about all the images, I am not sure of any other way to post them here for people to view.

There are still a few things that I want to change with what I previously did. The keyboard screen bothers me a bit because it looks too 'complicated' so perhaps I will change the icons to be more plain, maybe just silver buttons instead of colored. Another note, when most of the buttons (located on the main menu, anyone with a picture) is depressed, it changes to a more pale blue color to let you know that you clicked it, I really can't take a picture of that.

If anyone has any feedback please let me know, I don't mind some constructive criticism to make it look/function even better!

I did see that hidden button in there but I didn't want to enable it until I figured out if the GPS Info was possible.

Chris - as far as I know you are the very first person ever to say the button is useless, and you are absolutely right ;-) I've never thought of this before, but indeed it is interesting that the button is there. To me it seems the developer of iGuidance has always tried its very best to keep the number of buttons/features/options to the bare minimum to keep the software VERY easy to use for first time users, but here we have a completely unnecessary button right on the MAIN MENU!

I don't know how to assign the "GPS Info" function to the button - I don't think ResHacker can do that. But if you have a good look at the dialog 1044 (Main Menu), there are three hidden buttons there one of which could be quite useful: Display Options. You could disable System Information button, and set the Display Options button visible:

A benefit of this could be a faster access to Display Options. Users wouldn't have to go deeper in the menu to reach it.

I know it has been quite some time since some Reshacking discussion with iGuidance 3 but I was hoping that someone could help me. I have read all the pages of the forum dealing with IG customization but I can't figure out something. In Dialog 1044 (the main menu screen) I would like to change "System Information" to link to "GPS Info". The control in Dialog 1044 that references System Information is "512" while in Dialog 1060 the control that references GPS Info is also "512". Of course if i just copy and past the GPS over to the main menu, nothing happens but creating another System Information button.

Although it is a bit confusing, I have been working on this for the last few hours and have come up with nothing. I have tried all references that point to GPS but if its not a control that's already in that Dialog, it doesn't work at all. Can anyone help me? think that System Information on the main menu is completely useless and would rather GPS Info since i'm using the touch screen and it would be much easier to just tap the button once instead of going into the Settings menu. Voice options in iGuidance 4 - disable/enable TTS (text-to-speech)

* Open your register editor (on a pc click Start > Run, type regedit

* Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\iNav\iGuidance

* Right-click on empty space in the right pane, and then select New > DWORD

* Name it TTS

* Set the value to 0 to hear direction prompts consisting of only WAV

* Set the value to 1 to hear direction prompts consisting of WAV & TTS

* Set the value to 2 to hear direction prompts consisting of only TTS

0 = voice prompts as in older iGuidance versions (no street names)
1 = default voice prompts of iGuidance 4
2 = TTS (text-to-speech) used for the whole voice prompt (not just for street names)

The same can be achieved on a PDA. I just tested it with my favorite Kilmist Registry Editor. There is a 7 day free trial downloadable at , but I'm sure there are many other Registry Editors for Pocket PC platform. The PDA procedure is the same as for the PC's. Perhaps the only difference, while using Kilmist Registry Editor, is that instead of clicking on New > DWORD we have to click on Registry > Number Value.

dlt_lpd - that tweak was used by PC users in older iGuidance versions, but when iGuidance version 3 introduced the UMPC/CarPC version with fonts and everything much larger this tweak became mostly obsolete - yet it may still come handy to those who prefer to use the "regular" PC version instead of the UMPC/CarPC version.

This happens with or without a Bluetooth headset in the mix. The other two work both with and without the headset.

I've been using iGuidance since V1 and I know what issues you're talking about. I had them on an old iPaq 3760 PDA. I have V3.01 right now and this BT drop is different. A call comes in and after several seconds (maybe a minute) the BT GPS connection drops. iNav says they haven't tested with the phone. As long as I don't get or make a call everything works great. I like the iGuidance interface and prefer some features, such as being able to pan the map while navigating and being able to keep at a given zoom level, over TomTom. However TomTom has other strengths, such as traffic information, so featuree-wise they are relatively close to each other in my book. I'd probably go with iGuidance if it offered European maps and they fixed this BT issue.

Another annoyance that is handled well by TomTom and Mapopolis is the setting for power management/screen blanking. With iGuidnace it uses whatever the phone is set to. In my case the factory default is for the screen to go blank after a few seconds which is what I need any time I'm not navigating. With iGuidance I would have to go into the power management settings of the phone if I wanted to keep the screen on while navigating and then revert back when I'm done. This takes many key-presses each time. The other packages have settings within the package for when to keep the screen on. Mapopolis had the best becasue it offered a selection: use phone settings, screen on all the time while navigating, on while maneuvering or on some predetermined time before the next maneuver. TomTom keeps the phone on all the time when active and is able to turn on BT and then turns it off when exiting the program.

I've sent the power management issue as a suggestion to iNav but I have no idea if they listened. Initially they just told me I needed to set the phone's power management to just keep the screen on at all times. Since you're a beta tester maybe they'll listen to you if you can pass along these comments.

I do use iG also on my old PDA phone (wm2003se) with no Bluetooth issues. Prior to v3 there were BT problems upon startup occasionally, but for me version 3 fixed it.

Any idea if iG will start having European maps again? I switched to TomTom mainly because I need navigation in both continents and I don't want to be switching platforms when going from one region to another.

The other problem I have is on a PDA (Cingular 8525 phone) where if a call comes in iG drops the Bluetooth connection to the GPS and I have to restart everything to get it back. Neither Mapopolis or TomTom have that problem. Do you ever run the software on a Windows Mobile device?

Sorry, I'm unable to test it at this moment. I un-installed my iG 3.x and now I'm running a Beta 4. However, this Beta now has 12 (not 11) zoom levels on a PC - so this would eliminate the need for your intended modification. But since this is just a Beta version, it doesn't necessarily mean these 12 levels of zoom will appear in the final release of iGuidance 4.

Here's a link to an image I've got. I'm quite happy with it, but if there is a way to improve on it, that'd be great. But I'm afraid there may not be too much that can be done since the requirement is that it looks good even when very tiny (in sys tray).

Iguidance 3.0.1 POI Text Color

Any ideas how to change the new and improved POI Text color in 3.0.1? I like the smaller, contrasting color for the POI text; however, the light blue default color does not contrast well with a white background. I have already used the customization here to modify the STREET NAME color and would like to do the same for the POI text. Any input is appreciated.

I'm dumping the current theme for a new one that's more like the Apple OSX: Here are two quick, unfinished examples:

Here's something interesting. Look at the text on the top bar of the main menu. On this one, it's black, but on my previous theme, it's white. I guess the software can determine how dark the top bar is and assign black or white text.

I'm making the iGuidance to match my new homescreen on my PPC-6700 PocketPC, based on the new iPhone:

what I did was use ResHacker (look at the page about custom POI icons or cursor) and find which bitmaps go with which function. Then I use Photoshop to redo the buttons. Unfortunately, I have to use darker buttons primarily because the button texts are usually white & I don't know how to change them. Yes, I wish there are easier ways to do this.

I can confirm your suspicions! I don't particularly care for the color schemes chosen above, but would like to have the ability to change them to my own color schemes. I downloaded one of the pics above and tried playing around with them in some photo editing programs (Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro), but the programs are so overwhelming I couldn't find an easy way to do it. Jambaj0e, what do you use to make the changes to the colors and layouts?

Thanks Marvin! I changed it to black because it increase legibility of the text under the sun. The grey color is too close in color.

Wow, I just tried MioMap on the C310X and also on my PocketPC, and I must say, the graphic overhaul and level of customization is amazing! I know we have the theme.ini, but thay navigation program allows full reskinning, better color scheme layouts, as allowing a choice of multiple layouts, etc. Too bad I can't enlarge the font and increase the width of the road when using it on my PocketPC, the Sprint PPC-6700, which only have a 2.8" screen.

I LOVE your Destination buttons! Both, the un-pressed and pressed are excellent! They are not just nicer to look at than the originals, but they are easier to read, too!

UPDATE: I redid the Exit, X, and Back buttons

Anyone thought about reskinning the whole application? I'm extracting each bitmaps from the exe via ResHacker and reskining them to a similar look to the MioMap V3 navigation software. Here's a working example from the main menu with the background, title bar, destination button, exit button, and back button reskinned. Let me know what you think so far.

Not via theme.ini as far as I know. Neither do I know any other way. But if you wanted to experiment, you could open iguidance.exe in a hex editor to see if you could find out what font iGuidance uses for that, and then substitute that font with a different one. I have no idea if that would work, just a thought.

Maybe it is me...

The 3D mode on PC looks OK, but on PPC, it looks too "cartoonish", and the road border disappears.

Thanks to Marvin and this great thread, I was able to customize my map and the 2D looks pretty good, almost like Yahoo or Google's:

1. I enlarge the road width.

2. I use Red color for major highways
Orange color for major local roads
Yellow color for local roads
White(steelblue for night) color for the smallest roads

3. I use Tan color for road border -- that make roads look much better, just like Yahoo or Google

However, 3D mode just looks so unrealistic to me. Anyone with me on this one?

When I first got iGuidance V3, I kept comparing it with my old PocketMap Navigator. Now after map customization, iGuidance looks much better in 2D mode than the stock setting, and I start to like it. Just wish we can do some more on 3D mode.

Thanks, I did setup a hardware button on the PPC to go fullscreen, but the problem is any time I tap the touchscreen to go in th menu, etc. it reverts back to the windowed view and when I am done with the menus and the map is back up it does not automatically revert to fullscreen again. Obviously I can press the fullscreen button once more but was hoping it was an .ini preference to just always default to fullscreen.

serpa4, You've already set your MDFC to 5 5 5 5.... so I think that's the best that we know how to do...

dcs, yes, one way would be to exit iGuidance in full screen mode (Alt-F4). Next time iGuidance will start in full screen mode. That works for a PC. For a PPC however you could set a hardware button to switch to full screen mode (not exactly what you are asking, I know :-)

I'm not sure about posting the actual .ini files here. I do recall a few years back when iNav first released its .ini files, they were against posting them on websites. I'm not sure if they would object to people sharing their own creations. I personally don't feel this would be something most software developers would object to, since this is just a configuration file. But since we don't know perhaps I could send a quick e-mail asking their current view on this.

Is there a way to boot iGuidance 3.0 into fullscreen mode? (for both PPC & PC)

Also, the info here is great been messing around w/ some custom mods since I got my GPS & SW a few days back. Is there a place where users post their favorite PPC or PC theme.ini files? I liked using dummper's theme on the PC, but doesn't quite fit my needs on the smaller PPC screen. Anyone recommend a PPC setup?

These mods are great. New life for my IGuidance. However, still two problems. Please help if you can.
I cannot show all the roads at 1 mile. They disapear at 4500 ft. I can't zoom out more than 5 miles. I'd like to see all the roads further zoomed out and I'd like to zoom way out, like 50 miles or more.

Help with the basics please.
I've read most of this thread and cant find the basics on where to find the files to modify.
I have downloaded and run reshack. I only want this stuff to work on my PDA. I'm really only interested in changing/adding more streets and names at higher zoom levels.
In reshack I opened the Iguidance.exe file found on my C drive on my PC. I find:

cursor group
icon group
version info
I cant find the INI files eveyone is modifying.
Where are these?
On my PC under C/program files/iNav/iGudiance, I have a lot of folders.
cities, snd, cdinfo.ini, iguidance.chm, iguidance.exe,,mapdata2,sz,maploader.exe, mh.ini,,,,, and
Is it one of these files I modify?
If so, how does this get to my PDA? Do I have to remove Iguidance from my pda and then reinstall to make the changes take efect?
Please someone post the basics on how to find these files and bring them up.

Yes, it is indeed possible to create your own voice files and use them instead of the existing iGuidance sounds. Technically it is easy; the only difficult part is to find a person who has a nice voice appropriate for this project. I like the original iGuidance female sound of both the North American and also the European version. (Hmm, actually the European version lady talks a bit too slow for my liking ;-)

All that you need to do is to replace the original sound files *.wav located in the following folders on PC or PocketPC.

iGuidance North America:
\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\Snd

iGuidance Europe:
\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance Europe\Snd

You will need software for recording and editing sounds. A free one is available for download here:

iG 3.0 doesn't have such function and I'm not aware of a workaround. However, if you happen to use iGuidance on your laptop you could consider using Microsoft Streets & Trips for that function. Especially the new S&T 2007 version may prove to be very useful for you:

I would like to be able to see my favorites on the maps like the POI's, and would like to be able to make custom icons for my favorites. I have been using this program for the last few days, I am going on a 2000 mile trip around MI this week and will be traveling from Escanaba, Saulte STE Marie, and 10 other locations throughout MI. What I have noticed so far as I have been planing my trip is there are no POI's in Saulte STE Marie. Also, is there a was to import custom POI's, example- I would like to have all the Home Depots, Lowes, and supply houses displayed on my screed. I am an electrical contractor and it is always nice to know where the closest place is to get material

jackleung- Thanks for sharing that tip! AE Button Plus seems like a very useful application that can be used to assign several tasks to even a single hardware button based on how we press it (single press, double press, triple press, or long press).


1. AE Button Plus should be installed in the main memory of your device.

2. Don't choose iGuidance from the drop down menu of AE Button Plus. That would not work, because that would point only to the iGuidance.lnk file. Instead, click the browse button to the right of the drop-down menu, and navigate to the actual iGuidanceQVGA.exe file.

WARNING: The above is just a proof of concept. It is by no means intended to be instructions on how to disable the Warning window at the start of iGuidance. The iGuidance warning screen is there to remind drivers to keep their eyes on the road.

I got it to work on my PPC using a program called AE Button Plus by putting "iGuidanceQVGA.exe" for "Run Application" and "nowarning" (no quote) for "Optional Parameters"

lostreception over at figured out how to bring back this feature which was removed from the laptop/PC and UMPC/carPC versions of iGuidance 3.0.

He did the UMPC/CarPC version of iGuidance 3.0, and MatrixPC quickly adapted the modifications also to the laptop/PC version. Thanks guys!

Good suggestion. I think I would lean toward removing from the index on page 1 the two or three links to items that are no longer needed in version 3. This way we would know everything in the index is relevant to the most recent iGuidance version.

Most items are relevant to both PC and PPC versions (by PC I also mean the new UMPC/CarPC version). How about marking each item with [PC] or [PPC] to make it easier?

Here in my basement on my home PC, which is not connected to any GPS unit, I see just the grey arrow. (Or call it white or silver, etc ;-) In the past I would just see the red arrow now.

While on the road I think occasionally I do see the grey arrow, too. I didn't pay too close attention to pinpoint when exactly it is that I see it, but I think I see it at times immediately after I enter destination. Or is it red that I see? Not sure now. But it appears that the program may turn off GPS while entering destination (or while calculating a route?). I wonder if this is working this way by design (too speed something up perhaps).

Also I noticed that occasionally at night when I enter destination and hit "Navigate", it switches to Day color scheme for about 30 seconds till the GPS tells it what time it is (and then it switches back to night color scheme). Not too big of an issue, just a little cosmetic glitch .

Well, after playing with the new version 3 of iG in the past 2 weeks, it's time for me to replace the GPS arrow via ResHack. In iG3, they moved the arrow icons to the range starting at 176. However, other than the regular red/yellow/green arrow sets, I notice that there's an additional arrow set in 'white' color ... Anybody knows what it's for ???

Justintime, not sure about the font size. I just keep on using the PC version, so that doesn't bother me. Even though I like the large size ETA/DEST/REM/Speed of the UMPC version, the rest of it is way too big for me on my 15 inch (but it seems it is a bit too big for small screen sizes as well.

I have no idea what NMRC is. Are you talking about the bar on top of the screen as seen on the two pictures here: >>click me<<

If you set:

NMRC9=255,0,0 you will notice than when you pan the map with the cursor (move it around) the title at the top takes on the color (in this case, red).

I have not seen any effect on NMRC1, NMRC2, etc...

I'm not sure how I would design that feature. I guess it is just doing what it is supposed to do. But you may be right, now users have only the option to say "YES" or "NO". Saying "NO" will only stop it this time around, but next time you reach another destination you will be asked again. Perhaps beside the "YES" and "NO" there should be a third button "DELETE FROM ITINERARY".

But since the new “Itinerary” is not adding any value to me, I’m quite happy I was able to disable it.

Deleting it from "Recent" will not affect it. It should have been deleted from "Itinerary".

You have entered the destination just for testing purposes, and it remained in "Itinerary because you have never reached the destination, and you have never cancelled the route "properly". Instead you just exited the application (you bad boy!!!).

I had the same "Continue to Final Destination" annoyance too when I first installed iG3 last week. It was referring to an address that I first entered to test the new map after the fresh installation. Deleting it from the "Recent" list was not helping ...

Anyway, it "mysteriously" disappeared after several routed trips (!!?)

Bobn, sorry, I missed the first question. If you are asking if there is a version of iGkeys for ppc, then the answer is no. Some of the iGuidance built-in keyboard shortcuts for laptop version work also in the ppc version, but I've never explored the idea of creating a ppc version of iGkeys. I wonder if many people use a keyboard to control functions of iGuidance on a ppc.

You'd like to disable the panning feature? Hmm, I don't know if it is possible. Occasionally I do use the panning feature

Continue to Final Destination? Does the question annoy you?

This may be just me (because I haven’t yet heard anyone else complain). Occasionally I “accidentally” manage to place a destination point or two into the new Itinerary feature in iGuidance 3.0. This may happen if for example I have a destination plotted and I close iGuidance. Or it may happen when I have a destination plotted and I enter a different destination without first reaching the original destination or without first cancelling the original destination.

For the time being I have no much use for the new Itinerary feature so I thought I would try to disable it to avoid the above little annoyance. This can be done very easily

On your PC navigate to \iNav iGuidance\itinerary.dat and right-click the itinerary.dat file. From the menu select “Properties” and place a check mark in front of “Read only”. That’s it ;-)

On your PocketPC it is done the same way, but you may need connect your device to your PC thru ActiveSync, cut the itinerary.dat file from your PPC and paste it to your PC (on your desktop for example). Change the properties of the file to “Read only”, and cut & paste it back to your PPC.
