GPX Editor

To read, edit and write GPX files

As I didn't found any free and easy to use GPX edition program, I decided to write my own.

  • Reads and writes GPX and KML Files, read NGT files

  • Quick preview of tracks and waypoints

  • Zoom and move the map

  • Editable properties

  • Merge GPX files

  • Copy, delete, cut in parts, join tracks

  • Reduce point number using different methods

  • English, French, German and Spanish translation

DOWNLOAD

Comments and request are of course welcome.

Why all my questions about GPX editor are banned ?

You can't with GPX Editor. The GPX file format defines the symbol as text, without giving real information about how to interpret it.
Your only option is to save the html file (file/export/htm) and edit it yourself.

Pixel_k, Can you help me?
jdstirls Posted - 06 nov. 2012 : 23:26:24
Does anybody know how to change the symbol of the waypoints?
Thanks

Hi Pixel_k,
Thanks for the editor! Just having some trouble changing the symbol of the waypoints. I go into the properties and change the symbol for each individual waypoint but nothing seems to change on the google map. After going into preview and back to google maps it changes from blue to red but that is it. Any ideas?

Thanks. It's more about adding visual information to the tracks, thanks to color, pattern or width. I'll have a look at OSM!
Pixel_K Posted - 26 oct. 2012 : 20:04:42
georgd : Why do you run it as administrator ? You shouldn't need to. But I'll look into this.

ElectricSimpson : Those properties are not available in the GPX file format and can't be added to GPX Editor, it was not created to do that.
If I was you, I'd upload my data at OpenStreetMap as what you ask is really just mapping (If I understood the most of it right).

Hello Pixel_k, first of all, thanks indeed for your nice piece of work!

I come with a request I guess could be useful for many amateurs as I am.
I am a forest runner (running/trekking...) and I try to record EVERY path in the zone I'm compiling (it's becoming quite an obsession). From great roads to rabbit trails.
Now imagine a square of 10x10 km, with about 200 segments inside. Currently I use colors (white-green-orange-red) in GPX Editor to quickly visually represent the slope of the segments.

What I would like to have is different widths (let's say 3 or 4) to represent if we are talking of a road, a trail, or something even smaller.
So I wonder if, considering it can be done with colors, tracks could have different widths too (ideally every segment, but I think that's not allowed: all segments in a track must have the same color -but why?-)
That way you could, at a glance, have an idea about which segments/tracks use to plan a route depending of your needs (i.e. with children…)

In the same way, I'd add a similar suggestion: I’d like to represent the abruptness or rockiness of a track (an important subject when running).
So I'd like to be able to choose some patterns for each track, depending on the floor, if I’ll find stones, roots, holes…

Good: _______________
Average: ___ ___ ___ ___
Bad : _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Goatway: . . . . . . .

I really dont't know if that visual improvements would be something easy or difficult to add on your program, but I guess many people would appreciate them. Anyway I had to ask! Thanks for your attention, hope you find these ideas appealing.
Peace!

Hi Pixel_K, FYI there's a trivial bug with this setting Win 7 64bit as user and with "run as admin" in GPX editor 1.3.83.1509.
Reproduction:
1) Start GPX editor > Options > Settings > GPX Options > toggle "preserve XML namespaces" on
2) Click OK, exit GPX editor. Setting is persisted correctly in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\GPX Editor\GPX_Editor.ini
3) Start GPX editor > Options > Settings > GPX Options > "preserve XML namespaces" is not toggled on, but program does preserve namespaces, so behaviour is as expected just display of option is broken. Same for any other GPX Option, not any other option "page".

Thanks again for this great program! :) Georg

Hey Pixel K - great software - thanks for all your hard work!

Small language bug - if I right-click a track segment, then choose Delete, I get 'Are you sure you want to delete the selected track segment?', but instead of Yes/No boxes, I get 'Oui' and 'Non' boxes instead. Hope you can fix!

Can I also request a feature? When you right-click a point in the bit on the bottom right (the overview graph, I'll call it), can the Point menu have a 'Delete all following points' option? This would make cutting the end off tracks much easier - say, for example, you left your GPS tracker on when you got back in your car after a bike ride! :)

Hope you can have a look at these points!

Quick work! Thanks, I see the new 'multi-protocol' option, it appears to work for me. Choosing 'None' still wipes out the proxy though (sets HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ProxyEnable to 0).
Pixel_K Posted - 03 oct. 2012 : 11:51:27
Here is a beta that should correct this problem. Please tell me if it works for you.
Pixel_K Posted - 03 oct. 2012 : 11:19:26
I'll look into this misbehaving. If you select "None" in the proxy settings, GPX Editor should not change anything (even if a proxy is configured in windows).

*** EDIT ***
I found it, it tries to import the settings and fails to identify the option you mentionned. I'll add this option ASAP.

I use a proxy server at work and I noticed a glitch with the proxy settings in GPX Editor - if I fill in the HTTP proxy, GPX Editor will set the HTTP proxy in Windows/IE Internet Options accordingly, but will uncheck the 'use same server for all protocols' option and leave HTTPS, FTP, etc. proxy servers blank. If I tick none, then GPX Editor will uncheck the 'use a proxy server' setting. This means that after every time I use GPX Editor I have to go to Internet Options and reset the proxy settings.
There should be an option for GPX Editor to leave the Windows proxy settings alone.
