Posted - 06 oct. 2011 : 12:16:59 3790T and 3490T side by side Useful links : - Manual - Activate USB Mass Storage Mode (mount as external drive)
Screenshots : - advanced detours - manual speed limit and show icon Original post: My 3490LMT arrived on 10/3 from Garmin. I am using it side by side with my 3790T to compare the two. First observation is the 3490LMT does not have the clarity in the map page that the 3790T has. The 3490LMT does not show the detail (street names and small towns long the route) the 3790T shows. Both are set to "more" detail. So far I have only seen one icon ( a "Hardees" icon) and it went away and has not shown up again. In the 3D mode the shadows of the mountains are on the oposite side of the mountain on the 3490LMT. The best I remember my 3790T had similar problems when I first got it and it was corrected in the first map update. I am trying to reinstall 2012-20 maps in the 3490LMT but the lifetime map update is not working to to server problems. I will post details when I am able to update the maps. |

Just paste them in the garmin folder one line at a time. No need to open the garmindevice.xml. When you restart the 3590 those two lines will update the garmindevice.xml.
Please assit me in doing this. |

Posted - 15 sept. 2012 : 08:27:59 Does this model still have the option to navigate by either "Drive" or "Walk" mode like the 37XX models?
I find the Walk mode useful when using this to get around in a foreign city as the 37XX was much faster in map redraws and screen scrolling than the older 60CSx models.

Thank you very much beetle-m.
I had been googling for this but have not found anything until now. :-) |

Posted - 14 sept. 2012 : 13:43:38 Thank you. How do you access "Diagnostic Page"? I haven't got this unit yet and I can't believe that it is now simply on a menu page without having to tap all the secret places on a unit! Or is it? |

Posted - 14 sept. 2012 : 12:47:29 nuvi 3490 has "Diagnostic Logging" too. You can save or also copy saved tracklogs to SD card. Use "Diagnostic Page" to access it in nuvi 3490. |

Posted - 14 sept. 2012 : 10:59:29 Greetings everyone, I had been reading the whole thread on this model but unable to find any mention of this.
Does anyone know whether the Nuvi 3490 or 3590 is able to record 1 second tracklog?
I have both a 765 and 3760 which is able to record a tracklog by entering the developers page to enable diagnostic logging?
Just wondering whether this is a worthwhile substitution over the 3760 - raw logging is an important function for me.

Posted - 11 sept. 2012 : 17:12:21 @gordog I had a 3790 that calculated the route according to my preferences; I have however ruined the unit spraying deoxit into the USB socked and that fluid found its way into the screen wafer; so I had to buy a new unit, the 3490 which is not as good.
continued @geezer and @gordog RE: " Paste the following two lines into the Garmin folder in your 3590. It should have a Garmindevice.xml already in there.
DeviceConfig_VideoPlayback_Enabled.xml UpdateDeviceConfig.xml
Then when you restart, the video player should be on the APPS page."
I don't think you can paste text in a directory... I made two empty XML files with these names and copied both in the Garmin directory. After restarting the device there was no video player enabled, but the UpdateDeviceConfig.xml file dissapears. What did I do wrong? |

Posted - 11 sept. 2012 : 16:32:44 I noticed the same thing on my 3590. Knows where I will likely go, but doesn't take into account my route preference making it next to useless for me. I think the 3790 that I had remembered my preference for route? |

Posted - 11 sept. 2012 : 16:13:27 I wonder how long it takes for the 3490 to learn "my trends"? I'm probably in the 20st day of trying to teach it the detour I take to work every morning and it still calculates the route based on the fastest track, unaccounting for my preference.
@puffins Nest My unit returned an "unable to calculate" error once but it was for a long route from SW Ontario to Dawson, YT; Next time it calculated it, and the 3rd time returned again an error. |

Posted - 08 sept. 2012 : 20:52:07 I have a number of trips(routes) exported from BaseCamp to the Nuvi 3490lmt. I have previously used all the routes without a problem. Since the latest map updates I get the message 'unable to calculate'. Anyone else having this problem. The routes were on a SD card. I deleted all and again exported all to the card with the same result. Any suggestions. Thanks. |
